Baoyuan Decoction (1) treats pustular eruptions collapsing due to Qi deficiency.
Ren Shen (Panax ginseng C.A.Mey.) (2-3 qian), Zhi Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Preparata) (1 qian), Rou Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex) (5-7 fen), Huang Qi (Astragali Radix) (2-3 qian, stir-fried with wine during the suppuration stage, honey-roasted during the crusting stage).
Add 1.5 zhong of water and a pinch of glutinous rice, decoct and take orally. After this medicine is decocted, adding half a zhan of human milk and half a zhan of good wine for mixed consumption is even better; use according to circumstances.
If lesions on the forehead do not rise, add Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) 3-5 fen. For the face, add Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) 3-4 fen. For the chest and abdomen, add Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix) 3-4 fen. For the waist and knees, add Niu Xi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix) 4 fen.
If lesions on the four limbs do not rise, add Gui Zhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus). If there is vomiting and nausea, add Ding Xiang (Caryophylli Flos) 3-4 fen. If Yuan Qi (Original Qi) is deficient and cold, add Da Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata) 7-8 fen or 1 qian.
Tiaoyuan Decoction (2) Note: This is Baoyuan Decoction without Rou Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex), named Tiaoyuan Decoction, which is also Dongyuan's Huang Qi Tang (Astragalus Decoction). Dongyuan used it as a remedy for pediatric convulsions. Wei Guiyan used it to treat pustular eruptions with much effect, hence its beautiful name Baoyuan Decoction. Generally, children's Yuan Qi (Original Qi) is not yet full and is most easily damaged; using this formula to preserve it is indeed a wonderful royal method in pediatrics. However, if one can thereby expand and fill, then all conditions of deficiency-cold and deficiency-collapse in both Qi and Blood compartments can be treated by increasing or decreasing ingredients according to symptoms, achieving miraculous effects without exception.
Neibu Decoction (3) treats middle-jiao deficiency and other conditions of pustular eruptions.
Ren Shen (Panax ginseng C.A.Mey.), Huang Qi (Astragali Radix), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Fu Ling (Poria), Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Hou Po (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex).
Equal parts, decoct in water and take orally.
Tuoli San (4) treats pustular toxins with weak Yuan Qi (Original Qi), or when reckless purgation fails to disperse them. Using this, unformed lesions will resolve spontaneously, formed ones will suppurate spontaneously. It also treats internal deficiency from carbuncle toxins where eruption cannot occur.
Ren Shen (Panax ginseng C.A.Mey.), Huang Qi (Astragali Radix) (stir-fried, 2 qian each), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (wine-washed), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Shu Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix) (stir-fried), Fu Ling (Poria) (1.5 qian each), Zhi Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Preparata) (0.5 qian).
Each time use 3-5 qian, decoct in water and take orally. The formula in *Waike Shuyao* has 1.5 qian Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) and no Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma).
Jiedu Neituo San (5) treats pustular abscesses.

Each time take 3-5 qian, decoct in water and take orally. The *Waike* formula lacks Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium).
Shen Qi Neituo San (7) treats internal deficiency of pustular eruptions causing itching, failure to suppurate, inverted crusting, as well as carbuncles where pus/toxin does not transform, pain after pus discharge, etc.

Each time take 2-3 qian, decoct with ginger and water.
*Xue's Note*: The above formulas treat the period between eruption and healing of pustular eruptions, where lesions are not lustrous, do not rise, are not red and vibrant, accompanied by diarrhea and thirst within 5-7 days, abdominal distension, shortness of breath and wheezing, or body heat with abdominal distension and cold toes, or palpitations, sweating, chills with teeth grinding, or desire for crusting without crusting, failure of scab formation, or post-crusting abdominal distension and diarrhea with thirst. These are all due to deficiency-cold of the Spleen and Stomach and depletion of Jin Ye (Body Fluids); urgently use these medicines to treat. If mistakenly identified as excess-heat and treated with cold-cooling agents, or drinking honey water, raw/cold fruits, it will be incurable.
(Chen Shi) Shi Erwei Yigong San (22) treats Yuan Qi (Original Qi) deficiency-cold, white color of pediatric pustular eruptions, chills with teeth grinding, diarrhea, wheezing and coughing.
Ren Shen (Panax ginseng C.A.Mey.), Ding Xiang (Caryophylli Flos), Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Roudoukou (Myristicae Semen), Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Hou Po (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) (2.5 qian each), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Fu Ling (Poria), Guan Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex) (2 qian each), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (3.5 qian), Zhi Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparatum), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum) (1.5 qian each).
Cut into pieces. Each time take 2-3 qian, decoct with ginger, jujube, and water. My analysis: The above two formulas by Chen Shi have excess warming properties and insufficient tonifying properties; they are suitable for treating cold syndromes but inadequate for deficiency syndromes; users should deliberate carefully.
(Chen Shi) Renshen Maidong San (23) treats slight thirst in pustular eruptions.
Maidong (Ophiopogonis Tuber) (1 liang), Ren Shen (Panax ginseng C.A.Mey.), Zhi Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Preparata), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Hou Po (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) (ginger-processed, 5 qian each).
Each time take 3-4 qian, 1 large zhan of water, decoct to 0.6 portion. Take warm slowly, adjust according to the child.
*Xue's Comment*: The above formula is suitable for pustular eruptions with heat-toxin and weak Vital Qi. If thirst is due to Qi deficiency, Renshen Baizhu San (Ginseng and Atractylodes Macrocephala Powder) should be used.
Chaihu Maidong San (24) treats high fever in pustular eruptions lasting days without other symptoms.
Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix) (2.5 qian), Longdan Cao (Gentianae Radix) (1 qian), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Tuber) (3 qian), Zhi Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Preparata), Ren Shen (Panax ginseng C.A.Mey.), Xuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix) (1.5 qian each).
Cut into pieces. Each time take 3 qian, 1 large zhan of water, decoct to 0.6 portion. Take warm slowly at any time, adjust according to size.
Note: This formula has 60% exterior-releasing function and 40% fire-clearing function; it nourishes Ying (Nutritive) level and reduces fever, making it most suitable.
Shengjun Tang (25) treats uneven eruption of pustular eruptions, or vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and thirst.
Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Gan Ge (Puerariae Radix), Ren Shen (Panax ginseng C.A.Mey.), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (stir-fried), Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix) (stir-fried), Fu Ling (Poria), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Zi Cao (Arnebiae Radix seu Lithospermi Radix) (if unavailable, replace with Hong Hua).
Each time take 3-5 qian, decoct with ginger and water.
Shengma Gegen Tang (26) Also known as Shengma Tang. An excellent formula for resolving and emitting pustular toxins.
Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Ge Gen (Puerariae Radix), Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (equal parts).
Cut into pieces. 1 zhan of water, decoct to 0.7 portion. Take warm, at any time.
*Wan's Comment*: Ancients primarily used Shengma Gegen Tang (Cimicifuga and Kudzu Root Decoction) to treat pustular eruptions. Later generations, seeking novelty, established many methods; the more methods, the harder the cure. If one can adapt flexibly, various symptoms of pustular eruptions can be treated by increasing or decreasing ingredients, not merely releasing the exterior and resolving the muscle layer. Now taking Gegen Tang (Kudzu Root Decoction) as the main treatment, I establish modification methods below according to symptoms:
Initial fever, to release the exterior add Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix), Qiang Huo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix), Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix); dry mouth and thirst indicate internal heat, add Ge Fen (Puerariae Radix Powder), Tian Hua Fen (Trichosanthis Radix), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Tuber); spontaneous diarrhea, add Tiaoshi Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix); vomiting, add Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum), Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens); abdominal pain, add Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride), Zhi Ke (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Shan Zha Rou (Crataegi Fructus); lower back pain, add Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Bei Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma); headache, add Qiang Huo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Gao Ben (Ligustici Rhizoma), Man Jing Zi (Vittariae Fructus); convulsions, add Mu Tong (Akebiae Caulis), Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix), Deng Xin Cao (Junci Medulla); scanty urination, add Mu Tong (Akebiae Caulis), Che Qian (Plantaginis Semen), Qu Mai (Polygalae Radix); constipation, add Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma); epistaxis, add Shan Zhi Ren (Gardeniae Semen), Xuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix), Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix); fever for 3-4 days with intense heat not subsiding, need to resolve toxin, add Da Li Zi (Arctii Fructus), Lian Qiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Zi Cao (Arnebiae Radix seu Lithospermi Radix); lesions not emerging, add Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Chan Tui (Bombyx Batryticatus), Jing Jie Sui (Schizonepetae Spica), Hong Hua Zi (Carthami Flos Seed); eye pain, add Long Dan Cao (Gentianae Radix), Mi Meng Hua (Blumeae Flos), Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix); lesions too dense, add Ren Shen (Panax ginseng C.A.Mey.), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Zi Cao (Arnebiae Radix seu Lithospermi Radix), Da Li Zi (Arctii Fructus), Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix); sore throat, add Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix), Lian Qiao (Forsythiae Fructus); lesions dry, purple, or very red indicate blood heat, add Dang Gui Shao (Radix Angelicae Sinensis Tip), Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix), Hong Hua (Carthami Flos), Di Gu Pi (Lycii Cortex), Mu Dan Pi (Moutan Cortex); flat/sunken, gray-white pustules indicate Qi deficiency, add Ren Shen (Panax ginseng C.A.Mey.), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Guan Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex); lesions on hands/feet not rising indicate Spleen/Stomach insufficiency, add Ren Shen (Panax ginseng C.A.Mey.), Huang Qi (Astragali Radix), Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Guan Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex); diarrhea indicates interior deficiency, add Ren Shen (Panax ginseng C.A.Mey.), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), He Zi (Terminaliae Chebulae Fructus), Bai Fu Ling (Poria); lesions failing to form scabs indicate dampness, add Huang Qi (Astragali Radix), Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Guan Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex), Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix).
I believe the above formula is an exterior-releasing agent for the Stomach Meridian. Wan's method of modification is generally understood. However, this formula is cool in nature and flavor, purely dispersing and draining, suitable only for those with excess and heat in the Yangming. Children's Qi and Blood constitution are mostly weak and peaceful (70-80%). Therefore, when pustular eruptions first begin with sudden fever, medication should prioritize mildness and harmony, simultaneously nourishing Ying (Nutritive) Qi, to be nearly perfect. Premature use of cooling agents may damage Stomach Qi; exclusive use of dispersing agents may weaken Exterior Qi. Damage to both leads to unpredictable complications. Thus, I formulated Chai Gui Yin (Bupleurum and Cinnamon Twig Drink) as the first step in treating pustular eruptions, which should be used with discretion.
For treating measles, which mostly belong to Fire syndromes, this formula is appropriate.
Suge Tang (27) Initial heat without visible spots, temporarily use this exterior-releasing agent, dosage adjusted according to child's size.
Su Ye (Perillae Folium) (2 qian), Ge Gen (Puerariae Radix) (2 qian), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (1 qian), Bai Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix) (1.5 qian).
Three stalks of scallion white with roots, three slices of ginger, 1.5 zhong of water, decoct to 0.7 portion. Take hot. Original formula has 0.5 fen Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) and Sha Ren (Amomi Fructus); this is only suitable for Qi stagnation with abdominal pain, otherwise unnecessary.
Lianqiao Shengma Tang (28) Disperses toxin and clears fire.
Lian Qiao (Forsythiae Fructus) (1 qian), Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Ge Gen (Puerariae Radix), Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (0.7 fen each), Bai Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix) (0.5 fen), Bo He (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba) (a little).
Add Dan Zhu Ye (Lophatheri Herba), Deng Cao (Junci Effusi Medulla), 1.5 zhans of water, decoct to 1 zhan. Take warm, at any time.

Add a ball of Zhu Ru (Bambusae Caulis in Taenia), 1 zhan of water, decoct to 0.7 portion. Take warm, at any time.
Renshen Baidu San (30) Formula in Powder Section 36. Treats epidemic maculopapular rashes.

Cut finely, add Bo He Ye (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba), 1 zhan of water, decoct to 0.7 portion. Strain, take warm.
Chaige Baidu San (32) Suspected typhoid, use this to disperse.
Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix), Gan Ge (Puerariae Radix), Ren Shen (Panax ginseng C.A.Mey.), Qiang Huo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Jing Jie (Schizonepetae Spica), Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix), Su Ye (Perillae Folium), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma).
