Sweet, warm nature, non-toxic. *Bencao Gangmu* records it as cool-natured, which is incorrect.
[Invention] Donkey meat induces wind when consumed, especially the fatty part. *Ri Hua Zi Bencao* states that treating all types of wind refers to the black donkey; its hide treats wind and nourishes blood. The paste made by decocting in A Well water from Eastern Lu uses this. Paste boiled from donkey hide can promote the growth of beard and hair, with effects similar to horse hide paste. The penis of a donkey strengthens the yin and tendons/bones, with effects similar to that of a white horse's penis. Donkey milk treats jaundice caused by damp-heat and relieves thirst. Donkey urine is specifically used for killing parasites, promoting urination, and relieving distension. For treating dysphagia (yige), it can be taken alone or added to Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) for effective results. Donkey manure, stir-fried and hot-compressed, treats wind-induced swelling and fistulas; its juice treats abdominal pain and edema, with five he (approx. 100 ml) being beneficial.
Sweet, warm nature, non-toxic.
[Invention] Camel hump is one of the Eight Treasures. Although extremely delicious, it tends to induce wind; those with pre-existing wind conditions should avoid eating it. Camel fat, when massaged, removes wind-induced stubborn skin lesions and dead muscle tissue, utilizing its heat to penetrate the flesh.
Sweet, flat nature, non-toxic.
[Invention] Milk from cattle, sheep, camels, and horses can all be processed into cheese/yogurt-like products. Southerners only know to mix it with hot wine for drinking, while Northerners must boil it熟 before mixing with tea slurry. It greatly clears the stomach, does not aid damp-heat, relieves irritability and thirst, removes heat and oppression in the heart and diaphragm, moistens intestinal dryness and constipation, reduces swelling, generates essence and blood, tonifies deficiency, and enhances complexion. Dai Yuanli stated that milk cheese belongs to the category of blood; those with blood dryness should eat it, and it is superior to human milk because it lacks the toxic fire generated by anger. Hua Yuanhua stated that if a slug enters the ear, pouring in milk cheese will cause it to exit.
Also known as Ti Hu (Clarified Butter).
Sweet, cold nature, promotes bowel movement, non-toxic. Cheese and clarified butter should not be eaten together with raw fish sashimi, as this causes worms to grow in the abdomen.
[Invention] Clarified butter and Ti Hu have slippery and moistening properties, so they are suitable for those with blood heat and dryness. Furthermore, they are excellent for restoring voice in cases of loss of voice due to heat injury. They are indispensable in the preparation of all herbs that strengthen qi, blood, tendons, and bones via roasting methods, but are strictly contraindicated for those with weak spleen and stomach leading to loose stools.
Sweet, flat nature, slightly warm, non-toxic. Method for distinguishing authenticity: Those with a circular mane pattern on the top are genuine; they break with a clear sound, do not produce powder, lack a leather odor, and when stir-fried with clam powder into beads, remain firm after a month. Those produced in Dong'e are acceptable even if fake, but those counterfeited using water glue mixed with charcoal ash damage spleen qi and must never be used.
*Shennong Benjing* treats internal bleeding in the heart and abdomen, severe exhaustion manifesting as chills resembling malaria, lower back and abdominal pain, soreness and pain in the four limbs, uterine bleeding in women, and calming the fetus. Long-term consumption lightens the body and benefits qi.
[Invention] A Well is the source of the Zi River; its dark color and light nature benefit the lungs and kidneys. When decocting, black donkeys must be selected, verified in Yanggu Mountain by checking for black tongues and hides that are black inside and out. Using these to boil gel allows it to nourish blood and stop bleeding. *Shennong Benjing* treats internal bleeding in the heart and abdomen, uterine bleeding, and calming the fetus, making it a key herb for various hemorrhagic conditions. For cough and急促 breathing due to consumptive diseases, fei wei (lung atrophy), and fei yong (lung abscess), it moistens dryness and nourishes the large intestine, treating dysentery with pus and blood. This illustrates the principle that "when yin is insufficient, it is supplemented with substances of strong flavor."
