[Contraindicated or noted in] Lung Cold syndrome.
Bitter and cold, enters the Heart meridian. It overcomes heat and breaks the root of fire, drains excess fire in the Middle Jiao, and removes damp-heat in the Spleen. It is a herb for the Upper and Middle Jiaos. It also treats alternating chills and fever caused by pathogens in the Shaoyang (Lesser Yang) meridian. The hollow-centered variety is named Kuxin (Scutellariae Radix with hollow center), which assists Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus) in draining Lung fire; the solid-centered variety is named Tiaoxin (Scutellariae Radix with solid center), which drains Large Intestine fire.
[Contraindicated or noted in] Spleen Cold syndrome.
