（槐树最初产于河南的平原沼泽地带，如今各地都有生长。槐树有几个品种：叶子大而颜色黑紫的，称为“槐”；白天闭合、夜晚开放的，称为“守宫”。槐叶细小而青绿色的，只称为“槐”。槐树生长时，在季春三月的前五天像兔子的眼睛，十天像老鼠的耳朵，再过十天左右开始形成圆形的芽苞，又过二十天叶子长成。四五月间开出黄花，六七月间结出果实成为荚果，连珠状的果实中有黑色的种子，以种子连接紧密数量多为佳。其木材坚硬沉重，有青、黄、白、黑几种颜色。《周礼》记载冬天取槐檀木生火。《淮南子》说：“老槐树能自燃生火。”《天元主物薄》说：“老槐树能产生丹砂”，槐树的神奇怪异之处如此。它的花在未开时，炒过后煎水，染色非常鲜艳。陈藏器说：将槐实放在房顶上，七月采收，可以用来染黑色（皂色），近代人用槐花来染绿色。）
槐树生长在中原地区的平原沼泽，花是黄色的，种子是黑色的，气味苦寒，木质有青、黄、白、黑几种颜色，老了之后能生火、生丹，具备了五行运化全备的精气，所以主治五脏内部邪气的热症。五脏位于体内，所以称为“五内”。所谓的邪气热，是因为邪气导致的热病。如果肺气不能向四周布散水液精华，就会导致涎唾上涌，槐实能够止住它。如果肝血不能渗透灌注到经脉中，就会导致经脉受损断裂，槐实能够补益它。心火在内旺盛，就会形成火疮。脾土不和，就会形成乳房肿块（乳瘕）。肾气在内逆乱，就会导致子宫拘急疼痛。槐树禀受了五行运化的气，所以能治疗肺病引起的涎唾、肝病引起的经脉绝伤、心病引起的火疮、脾病引起的乳瘕、肾病引起的急痛，对于五脏内部邪气所致的热症，疗效正如上述所述。
[Huai Shi (Sophora Fruit)]

(Sophora trees originally grew in the plains and marshes of Henan, but are now found everywhere. There are several varieties: those with large, dark-black leaves are named "Huai"; those that close during the day and open at night are named "Shou Gong". Those with fine, greenish leaves are simply called "Huai". When growing, in the late spring, within five days the buds resemble rabbit eyes, within ten days they resemble mouse ears, after another ten days they begin to form circular shapes, and after twenty more days the leaves fully develop. In the fourth and fifth lunar months, yellow flowers bloom; in the sixth and seventh lunar months, fruits form into pods containing black seeds like beads. The variety with densely connected seeds is considered superior. The wood is hard and heavy, coming in green, yellow, white, and black colors. *Zhou Li* records using Huai and Tan wood for fire in winter. *Huainanzi* states: "Old Huai trees generate fire." *Tianyuan Zhu Wu Bo* states: "Old Huai trees generate cinnabar." Such is the miraculous nature of the Huai tree. Its flowers, when fried before blooming and decocted in water, produce a very bright yellow dye. Chen Cangqi said: Placing the fruit on the roof and harvesting it in the seventh month allows it to be used for dyeing black (saponin/black dye). In recent times, Sophora flowers are used to dye green.)
Sophora grows in the plains and marshes of the Central Plains. Its flowers are yellow, its seeds are black, its flavor is bitter and cold, and its wood has green, yellow, white, and black hues. Being old, it generates fire and cinnabar, possessing the complete essence of the Five Movements (Wu Yun). Therefore, it primarily treats internal heat caused by pathogenic factors in the Five Viscera. Since the Five Viscera are located internally, they are referred to as the "Five Internals" (Wu Nei). The "pathogenic heat" refers to heat disease caused by pathogenic factors. If Lung Qi fails to distribute fluid essences to the four directions, saliva and sputum will surge upward; Huai Shi can stop this. If Liver Blood fails to permeate and irrigate the meridians, the meridians will suffer severance and injury; Huai Shi can tonify this. If Heart Fire is excessively abundant internally, fire sores will form. If Spleen Earth is not harmonious, breast masses (Ru Jia) will form. if Kidney Qi rebels internally, urgent pain in the uterus will occur. Huai Shi inherits the Qi of the Five Movements; thus, it treats saliva and sputum from Lung diseases, severance and injury from Liver diseases, fire sores from Heart diseases, breast masses from Spleen diseases, and urgent pain from Kidney diseases. Thus, it addresses the internal heat of the Five Viscera caused by pathogenic factors as described above.
