薤白同瓜蒌、白酒。治胸痹心背痛。同瓜蒌、白酒、半夏。治胸痹不卧。心痛彻背。同

白芥子同白术。枣肉丸。治胸膈痰饮。同甘遂、大戟、蝎尾、巴霜、辰砂丸。名控涎丹。

【薤白】
药性温和。味道辛、苦，质地滑利。无毒。主治金创（金属利器造成的创伤）及疮疡溃烂不愈。能使身体轻健，减少饥饿感，延缓衰老。
薤白的药性温和，禀受春天和煦的木气，进入足厥阴肝经。味道辛、苦，质地滑利，无毒，获得大地西南方金、火之味，具有润泽的特性。进入手太阴肺经、手少阴心经。其气味上升多于下降，属于阳。金创导致气虚，则疮口难以愈合。薤白的温性能益气，所以能主治疮疡溃败。薤白的温性通达肝脏，肝气条达顺畅，则气血每日滋生，所以能使身体轻健。温暖脾土，脾土健运，所以能减少饥饿感。味道辛能滋润血液，血液充盈华润，所以能延缓衰老。
制方方法：
薤白同瓜蒌、白酒配伍，治疗胸痹（胸部闷痛）、心背疼痛。同瓜蒌、白酒、半夏配伍，治疗胸痹不能平卧，心痛放射至背部。同枳实、桂枝、厚朴、瓜蒌配伍，治疗胸痹胸闷，胁下有气逆冲撞心脏。
【白芥子】
药性温和。味道辛。无毒。能发汗。主治胸膈间的痰湿寒冷，气逆上冲，面目发黄发红。用醋研磨外敷可治疗射工毒（古代指一种有毒昆虫或瘴气引起的中毒）。
芥子的药性温和，禀受春天升发的木气，进入足厥阴肝经。味道辛，无毒，获得大地西方的金味，进入手太阴肺经。
其气味都主上升，属于阳。味道辛入肺经，肺合皮毛，辛温发散，所以能发汗。胸廓是肺所主的部位，膈膜是肝所主的部位。白芥子辛温疏散，所以能进入肝、肺所主的部位而消除痰湿寒冷。肺主气，药性温和则气下行，所以能主治气逆上冲。面目发黄发红，是肝木乘克脾土所致。薤白/芥子的温性通达肝脏，肝不乘克脾土，黄赤之色自然消退。醋研磨外用主治射工毒，也是辛温条达功效的体现。
制方方法：
白芥子同白术配伍，制成枣肉丸，治疗胸膈痰饮。同甘遂、大戟、蝎尾、巴豆霜、辰砂配伍，制成丸剂，名为控涎丹，治疗痰迷心窍。

The thermal nature is warm. The flavor is pungent, bitter, and slippery. It is non-toxic. It primarily treats metal wounds (injuries caused by metal weapons) and ulcers that fail to heal. It makes the body light, reduces hunger, and delays aging.
Allium macrostemon bulb has a warm thermal nature, inheriting the harmonizing Wood Qi of spring, entering the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian. Its flavor is pungent, bitter, and slippery, and it is non-toxic, obtaining the flavors of Metal and Fire from the southwest earth, possessing a moistening property. It enters the Hand Taiyin Lung Meridian and the Hand Shaoyin Heart Meridian. Its aroma and flavor ascend more than they descend; it is Yang. Metal wounds causing Qi deficiency result in unhealed wound openings. The warming nature of Allium macrostemon can tonify Qi, thus treating ulcerative decay. Its warmth reaches the Liver; when Liver Qi flows smoothly, Blood and Qi are generated daily, thus making the body light. Warming the Spleen Earth, with robust Earth, hunger is reduced. The pungent flavor nourishes Blood; when Blood is abundant and lustrous, aging is delayed.
Prescription Methods:
Allium macrostemon bulb combined with Trichosanthes Fruit (Gualou) and white wine treats Chest Bi (chest obstruction/pain) and heart-back pain. Combined with Trichosanthes Fruit, white wine, and Pinellia Tuber (Banxia), it treats Chest Bi where one cannot lie flat, and heart pain radiating to the back. Combined with Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome (Zhishi), Cinnamon Twig (Guizhi), Magnolia Bark (Houpo), and Trichosanthes Fruit, it treats Chest Bi with chest fullness and rebellious Qi rushing from the hypochondrium to strike the heart.
[White Mustard Seed]
The thermal nature is warm. The flavor is pungent. It is non-toxic. It induces sweating. It primarily treats phlegm-cold in the chest and diaphragm, rebellious Qi, and yellow-red complexion. Applied externally after grinding with vinegar, it treats Shegong toxicity (toxicity caused by certain insects or miasma).
Mustard seed has a warm thermal nature, inheriting the ascending Wood Qi of spring, entering the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian. The flavor is pungent and non-toxic, obtaining the Metal flavor from the western earth, entering the Hand Taiyin Lung Meridian.
Both its aroma and flavor ascend; it is Yang. The pungent flavor enters the Lung; the Lung governs the skin and hair. Pungent and warm dispersing properties induce sweating. The chest is the domain governed by the Lung, and the diaphragm is the domain governed by the Liver. White mustard seed is pungent, warm, and dispersing, thus entering the domains of the Liver and Lung to eliminate phlegm-cold. The Lung governs Qi; the warm thermal nature causes Qi to descend, thus treating rebellious Qi. Yellow-red complexion indicates Liver overacting on Spleen. The warmth reaching the Liver prevents Liver from overacting on Spleen, so the yellow-red color recedes naturally. Grinding with vinegar to treat Shegong toxicity also demonstrates the efficacy of pungent-warm smooth flow.
Prescription Methods:
White mustard seed combined with Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome (Baizhu), formed into pills with jujube paste, treats phlegm-fluid retention in the chest and diaphragm. Combined with Kansui Root (Gansui), Kyto Root (Daji), Scorpion Tail (Xiewei), Croton Seed (Bashuang), and Cinnabar (Chensha), formed into pills named Kongxian Dan, it treats phlegm confusing the Heart orifices.
