(Decoction Powder) Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae), Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae), Baizhi (Radix Angelicae Dahuricae), used together with Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae), Banxia (Rhizoma Pinelliae), Shihu (Herba Dendrobii), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae), and Zhike (Fructus Aurantii). It also treats Stomach Heat and mouth ulcers; employing the method of "dispersing fire stagnation" is excellent. (Shengma, Fangfeng, Baizhi clear heat and open depression; Shihu, Gancao calm the Stomach and regulate the middle.)
(Powder, from Qian Yi) Sangbaipi (Cortex Mori Radicis) and Digupi (Cortex Lycii Radicis), suitable in combination with Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae) and Jingmi (Semen Oryzae Sativae). (Sangbaipi and Digupi each 1 qian, Gancao 0.5 qian, Jingmi 100 grains. Sangbaipi drains Lung Fire, Digupi clears deficiency heat, Gancao tonifies Spleen Earth to generate Lung Metal, Jingmi harmonizes the middle and clears the Lung. Li Shizhen said: This is the standard for formulas draining Lung heat.) Renshen (Radix Ginseng), Fuling (Poria), Zhimu (Rhizoma Anemarrhenae), and Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae) can all be added. (Renshen, Fuling, Zhimu, Huangqin are added as needed, named Modified Xiebai San.) This formula is applied for pneumonia and wheezing cough.
(From Qian Yi) Use Longdancao (Radix Gentianae) and Zhizi (Fructus Gardeniae), assisted by Dahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei) to drain fire downward. Qianghuo (Rhizoma Notopterygii), Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae), Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae) guide fire upward; Chuanxiong (Rhizoma Chuanxiong) and Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) moisten dryness. This is suitable for Liver Meridian fire stagnation. [Longdancao, Hei Zhizi (Black Gardenia), Dahuang (steamed with wine), Qianghuo, Fangfeng, Chuanxiong, Danggui (washed with wine), equal parts, honey pills, taken with Zhu Ye (Bamboo Leaf) decoction. Qianghuo and Fangfeng guide fire upward; Zhizi, Longdancao, and Dahuang suppress fire downward; Chuanxiong and Danggui nourish Liver Blood and moisten Liver dryness.]
(Decoction, *Jufang*) Zhizi (Fructus Gardeniae), Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae), Chaihu (Radix Bupleuri), combined with Shengdi (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata), Cheqianzi (Semen Plantaginis), and Zexie (Rhizoma Alismatis). Mutong (Caulis Akebiae), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae), and Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) combine to eliminate damp-heat in the Liver Meridian. [Dancao (wine-fried Dragon's Gall Bladder? Note: Text says Dancao but context implies Longdan or similar bitter cold herb, likely typo for Longdan or referring to specific preparation, here translated as Longdancao based on context of Liver/Gallbladder fire), Zhizi (wine-fried), Huangqin (wine-fried), Shengdi (wine-fried), Chaihu, Cheqianzi, Zexie, Mutong, Danggui, Gancao (raw). Longdancao and Chaihu drain Liver and Gallbladder fire; Huangqin and Zhizi drain Lung and Triple Burner heat; assisted by Zexie draining Kidney Meridian dampness; Mutong and Cheqianzi drain Small Intestine and Bladder dampness; assisted by Danggui and Shengdi nourishing Blood and tonifying the Liver; Gancao moderates the middle and benefits the Stomach, preventing the bitter-cold herbs from being too purgative.]
(Pills, *Xuanming Lunfang*) Use Si Huang (Four Yellows: Huanglian, Huangqin, Huangbai, Dahuang), Longdancao (Radix Gentianae), Lvhui (Resin Aloe), Muxiang (Radix Aucklandoniae), and Shexiang (Moschus). Hei Zhizi (Black Gardenia) and Qingdai (Lapis Lazuli) are taken with Jiangtang (Ginger Decoction); all Liver fires can be eliminated. [Danggui, Dahuang (soaked in wine), Qingdai (water-flown), Lvhui each 5 qian, Muxiang 2 qian, Shexiang 0.5 qian, honey pills, taken with Ginger Decoction. Liver Wood is the source of generating fire; fires of various meridians arise from it. Thus, Qingdai and Longdancao enter the Wood Meridian to directly break the fire, while Dahuang, Huangqin, Huanglian, Zhizi, and Huangbai smooth and level the fire of the Upper, Middle, and Lower Triple Burners. Lvhui is extremely bitter and cold, with a fishy odor entering the Liver. Fearing the other herbs are too cold and purgative, Danggui is used to nourish Blood and tonify the Liver, and Ginger Decoction is used as a warm, acrid guide. Muxiang and Shexiang are added for their ability to move Qi and open orifices. However, if it is not excess heat, they should not be administered lightly.]
