上锉。水煎,食前服。(以大怒而用是,故曰平肝,香附、青皮、柴胡、芍药、甘草、川芎,缓肝疏肝,升提肝气;
[Da Ji Gen Fang]
Take 5 liang of Radix Cirsii Japonici (Daji) and 3 liang of Rhizoma Imperatae (Baimaogen).
Finely cut these two herbs, decoct them in 5 jin of wine, reduce to 4 jin, strain off the dregs, and divide into four doses. (The intention of using wine is to employ its ascending method.)
[One Prescription for Treating Metrorrhagia in Women]
Take 0.5 liang of Flos Sophorae (Huaihua), stir-fried, and 2 liang of Radix Scutellariae (Huangqin), peeled.
Grind these two herbs together into a fine powder. Take 5 qian per dose, mixed with one bowl of good wine. Heat a copper scale weight until red with mulberry wood fire, then quench it in the wine to mix with the powder. Take at any time. Avoid raw, cold, and greasy foods.
[Jinhua San]
Indicated for heat in the blood chamber causing continuous metrorrhagia, when warm medicines are ineffective.
Take 1 liang each of Rhizoma Corydalis (Yanhusuo), Radix Angelicae Sinensis (Danggui), Spica Lepidii (Qumaisui), Cortex Moutan (Mudanpi), and Rhizoma Zingiberis (Ganjiang); 2 liang of Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao); 1 liang of Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guixin, ground separately); 7 qian each of Radix Saposhnikoviae (Weilingxian); and 0.5 liang of Polygoni Multiflori Caulis (Puhuang).
Grind all into a fine powder. Take 3 qian per dose, decocted in water and taken warm on an empty stomach, twice daily. (This formula uses Shigao because the Yangming channel is the sea of blood; Ganjiang and Guixin serve as adjuvant treatments; Weilingxian removes old pus and foul fluids from the intestines. It is only suitable for cases with rotting impurity, heat binding, and blood stasis.)
[Jianyi Huangqin Tang]
Indicated for metrorrhagia and hematochezia. Nowadays, people mostly use hemostatic and blood-nourishing medicines, but this formula treats "Yang invading Yin," described as "heavenly heat and earthly warmth causing menstrual blood to boil over."
Grind Radix Scutellariae (Huangqin) alone into a fine powder. Take 3 qian per dose, washed down with Pili Jiu (Thunderbolt Wine, i.e., wine quenched with a hot scale weight). Another method is to decoct with Folium Schizonepetae (Jingjie).
[Jiao Ai Siwu Tang]
Indicated for labor injury damaging Qi and Blood, excessive menstruation, or continuous metrorrhagia and leukorrhea; also suitable for fetal restlessness during pregnancy, or leakage bleeding damaging the fetus due to trauma or disturbance.
Take 1 qian each of Radix Angelicae Sinensis (Danggui), Rhizoma Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong), Radix Paeoniae Alba (Baishao), Prepared Radix Rehmanniae (Shudihuang), Colla Corii Asini (Ejiao, fried until bead-like), Folium Artemisiae Argyi (Aiyè), and 5 fen of Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata (Zhigancao).
Cut the herbs. Decoct with half water and half wine, take on an empty stomach. (Slightly different from Qixiao Siwu Tang: that one uses Huangqin, this one uses Zhigancao; that one uses pure water, this one adds half wine, thus differing in warming and cooling properties.)
[Danggui Shaoyao Tang]
Indicated for continuous intermenstrual bleeding in women with bright red blood. The cause is fatigue and overwork leading to Spleen-Stomach deficiency, shortness of breath, rebellious Qi, spontaneous sweating, fever and mental restlessness, aversion to food, limb fatigue, and occasional diarrhea.
Take 1.5 qian of Radix Astragali (Huangqi); 1 qian each of Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae (Baizhu), Rhizoma Atractylodis (Cangzhu, soaked in rice water and peeled), Radix Angelicae Sinensis (Dangguishen), and Radix Paeoniae Alba (Baishao); 0.5 qian each of Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae (Chenpi) and Prepared Radix Rehmanniae (Shudihuang); 0.3 qian each of Radix Rehmanniae Recens (Shengdihuang) and Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata (Zhigancao); and 0.2 qian of Radix Bupleuri (Chaihu). (Based on symptoms, this belongs to Spleen-Stomach Qi deficiency, so Bu Zhong Yi Qi should be primary. Why no Renshen or Shengma here? Cangzhu is pungent, harsh, and drying; if the blood is bright red, why use it? Combined with Dihuáng, would it not be mocked by contemporaries? One must know ancients formulated based on patterns, seeking truth rather than rigidly applying formulas. )
Decoct one dose in water, take hot on an empty stomach. (Li Dongyuan created this for a woman; after one dose, all symptoms vanished. A female relative of mine suffered from bleeding due to overwork, lasting half a month each time. Doctors stuck to the theory of blood heat, using Siwu Tang plus Huangqin and Lianmu, without success. One day she bled heavily and fainted. I prescribed this formula; she woke shortly after, and bleeding stopped within two hours. She used it often thereafter with no recurrence. Blood deficiency requires Qi tonification. I compare Blood to water and Qi to a dike; if the dike is firm, water does not burst forth; if Qi is solid, Blood does not wander recklessly—this is natural law. This formula uses the most Huangqi and Baizhu, hence its miraculous effect. Common doctors do not understand this, using only cooling medicines, which damage Stomach Qi and weaken Zheng Qi, making Blood impossible to secure. Therefore, I highlight this principle.)
[Guipi Tang]
Indicated for women whose excessive thinking injures the Spleen, failing to control Blood, leading to erratic flow; or forgetfulness, palpitations, fright, insomnia; or Heart-Spleen pain, lethargy, desire to lie down, and loss of appetite. (This illustrates that Qi is like the husband and Blood like the wife; Blood follows Qi upward, following the way of the husband singing and the wife responding. Ying Qi originates from the Middle Jiao; Spleen-Stomach Qi deficiency causes Middle Qi to sink, meaning Ying Blood has lost its 'husband.' This formula nourishes Ying and assists the Spleen, using Qi-tonifying herbs as sovereign agents, reflecting this intent.)
Take 1 qian each of Radix Ginseng (Renshen), Radix Astragali (Huangqi, stir-fried), Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae (Baizhu), Poria (Baifuling), Radix Angelicae Sinensis (Danggui), Radix Polygalae (Yuanzhi, heart removed), Semen Ziziphi Spinosae (Suanzaoren, stir-fried); and 0.5 qian each of Fructus Amomi (Muxiang) and Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata (Zhigancao). Add appropriate amount of Sarcandra Glabra (Longyanrou).
Cut the herbs. Add 3 slices of Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens (Shengjiang) and one Jujube (Zao). Decoct in water and take. (Suitable for Heart-Spleen Qi deficiency with Qi stagnation. Add Chaihu and Gardeniae Fructus (Shanzhi) to name Jiawei Guipi Tang.)
[Baizi Ren Tang]
Indicated for women suffering from excessive worry and thought, injuring the Heart channel through labor, failing to store Blood, resulting in continuous metrorrhagia.
Take 1.5 qian each of Semen Biota (Baizi Ren, stir-fried), Rhizoma Cyperi (Xiangfu, stir-fried), Rhizoma Chuanxiong (Xiong), and Radix Panacis Japonici (Lurong, scalded to remove hair, steamed and dried in wine); 1.5 qian of Poria Cum Radix Pinelliae (Fushen, wood removed); 1.5 qian of Radix Angelicae Sinensis (Danggui); 2 qian of Radix Dipsaci (Chuanxuduan); 1 qian each of Radix Polygalae (Yuanzhi, heart removed); and 0.5 qian of Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata (Zhigancao).
Decoct one dose with 5 slices of Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens (Shengjiang) in water, take on an empty stomach. (This is from *Jisheng Fang*, but Xue Lizhai added Chaihu and Shanzhi to clear Jueyin fire and raise Gallbladder Qi. Lurong is extreme Yang within Yin, possessing Yin substance but Yang function, and is not used unless there is Blood depletion and Qi decline.)
[Xueyang Pinggan San]
Indicated for sudden heavy menstrual flow due to great anger.
Take 2 qian each of Radix Angelicae Sinensis (Danggui, soaked in wine), Radix Paeoniae Alba (Baishao, stir-fried), and Rhizoma Cyperi (Xiangfu, stir-fried black); 0.8 qian each of Exocarpium Citri Grandis (Qingpi, vinegar-fried), Radix Bupleuri (Chaihu), Rhizoma Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong), and Radix Rehmanniae Recens (Shengdihuang); and 0.5 qian of Radix Glycyrrhizae (Gancao).
Cut the herbs. Decoct in water, take before meals. (Used for great anger, hence named Pinggan [Calming Liver]. Xiangfu, Qingpi, Chaihu, Baishao, Gancao, and Chuanxiong soothe, disperse, and lift Liver Qi; Danggui and Shengdihuang nourish Blood and enrich the Liver. The focus is on calming great anger, hence this formulation.)
