(Previous prescription) Decoct for one tael. Nan Hua Fen (Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus, 南花粉) four qian. Xiang Bai Wei (Radix Stellerae, 香白薇) one qian. Xi Jiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu, 犀角), Yuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix, 元参), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 知母), Shi Hu (Dendrobii Caulis, 石斛) to extinguish wind and rescue fluids. Hua Fen, Mao Gen (Imperatae Rhizoma, 茅根), Zhi Wei (Gardeniae Fructus Pericarpium, 栀薇) to clear the Wei level and cool the Ying level. In the prescription, rescuing fluids and extinguishing wind are particularly emphasized. When fluids are restored, wind subsides; when wind subsides, blood flow returns to normal. (After taking) several doses, the condition stabilized. (The follow-up prescription removes Xi Jiao, Mao Gen, Zhi Wei, and Hua Fen.) Add Da Sheng Di (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata, 大生地) two to eight qian, Ming Tian Dong (Asparagi Radix, 明天冬) cut six qian, and the patient recovered. (Da Sheng Di eight qian. Ruan Fan's study room suffered from abdominal pain with a tendency towards syncope. The physician, seeing his very weak constitution, prescribed methods to suppress rebellion and tonify unblocking, but the condition worsened daily. Mengying observed the pulse as wiry and rapid, overflowing on the left side, indicating that anger caused the Liver Yang to surge violently. There was difficult defecation and lack of appetite, bitter taste in the mouth, and thirst. He prescribed Xue Geng Tang (Snow Soup Decoction), Zhi Zi (Gardeniae Fructus, 栀子), Chuan Lian Zi (Toosendan Fructus, 川楝子), Xuan Fu Hua (Inulae Flos, 旋覆花), Jiang Xiang (Saussureae Radix, 绛香), Yuan Hu Suo (Corydalis Rhizoma, 元胡索), Dan Pi (Moutan Cortex, 丹皮), Zhu Ru (Bambusae Folium, 竹茹), Chuan Bei Mu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus, 川贝母), and administered Zuo Jin Wan (Left Metal Pill, 左金丸) with the medicine, resulting in recovery. (A wiry and rapid pulse overflowing on the left indicates Yin deficiency with internal heat; "difficult defecation and lack of appetite" are signs of Liver Wind rebelling upwards. Dan Hai Zhe (Marina Concha, 淡海蜇) decocted first two taels, whole Bi Qi (Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae Rhizoma, 整荸荠) pounded two taels, Hei Zhi Pi (Gardeniae Fructus Pericarpium, 黑栀皮) three qian, Chuan Lian He (Toosendan Fructus, 楝核) pounded and decocted first four qian, Xuan Fu Hua (Inulae Flos, 旋复花) bagged and decocted first three qian, Xin Jiang Sa (Safflower Stamen, 新绛屑) six fen, Yuan Hu Suo (Corydalis Rhizoma, 元胡索) one and a half qian, Fen Dan Pi (Moutan Cortex, 粉丹皮) two qian, Jiang Zhu Ru (Bambusae Folium, 姜竹茹) three qian, Chuan Bei Mu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus, 川贝母) pounded four qian. Xue Geng combined with Chuan Lian He and Dan Pi can extinguish wind and purify the Lung. The medicine is taken with Zuo Jin Wan two qian.)
Zhou Zi had a constitution that was inherently weak and occasionally suffered from intermittent malaria. Huang Mou used herbs such as Shou Wu (Polygoni Multiflori Radix, 首乌), Bie Jia (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum, 鳖甲), Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, 姜), and Zao (Jujubae Fructus, 枣). The illness worsened day by day. Ginseng and Rou Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex, 肉桂) were added, leading to mania and delirious speech. Mengying examined him: red face, crimson tongue, scanty and difficult urination, loose stools, thirst with desire to drink, profuse sweating, and a fine, rapid pulse. This was a Summerheat syndrome. He prescribed Yuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix, 元参), Yin Hua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos, 银花), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 知母), Qin (Scutellariae Radix, 芩), Zhu Ru (Bambusae Folium, 茹), Bei (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus, 贝), Zhu Ye (Bambusae Folium, 竹叶), He Gan (Nelumbinis Petiolus, 荷杆), Lian Xin (Nelumbinis Plumula, 莲心), and Xi Gua Pi (Citrulli Citrullus Pericarpium, 西瓜皮) as a formula, and he recovered soon. (Warm tonification aids heat and scorches fluids. The pathology remains at the Qi level. Yuan Shen Pian (Scrophulariae Radix, 元参片) one tael, soaked and taken after removing dregs. Yin Hua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos, 银花) one tael and five qian, wine-fried Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 知母) three qian, wine-fried Ku Qin (Scutellariae Radix, 枯芩) one and a half qian, Jiang Zhu Ru (Bambusae Folium, 姜竹茹) three qian, Chuan Bei Mu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus, 川贝母) pounded four qian, Lian Zi Xin (Nelumbinis Plumula, 莲子心) one qian, fresh Zhu Ye (Bambusae Folium, 竹叶) two qian, Xi Gua Pi (Citrulli Citrullus Pericarpium, 西瓜皮) four qian. Yuan Shen, Yin Hua, Zhi Mu, Zhu Ye, and Xi Gua Pi rescue fluids and extinguish wind.)
Wu Weike's mother suffered from phlegm-cough, wheezing, difficult defecation, insomnia, slight fever, and lack of appetite. She had a dry mouth and aversion to heat. Mengying palpated her pulse: the right Cun and Guan positions were wiry, slippery, and floating; the left Guan and Chi positions were fine and lacked spirit. This indicated Yin deficiency below and Phlegm excess above, with slight external heat. He prescribed Zhu Ru (Bambusae Folium, 茹), Bei (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus, 贝), Xuan Fu Hua (Inulae Flos, 旋), Shi Hu (Dendrobii Caulis, 斛), Fu Shi (Pumex, 浮石), Lu Gen (Phragmitis Rhizoma, 芦根), Dong Gua Zi (Benincasae Semen, 冬瓜子), Pi Ye (Eriobotryae Folium, 枇叶), Xing Ren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, 杏仁), and Hua Fen (Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus, 花粉) as a formula, decocted with Shu Di (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata, 熟地) soaked in water. This method involves administering heavy medicines lightly, clearing the upper and nourishing the lower, achieving both goals with one move. The administration was effective; after another dose, bowel movements occurred, and gradual recovery ensued. (Right Cun and Guan wiry, slippery, and floating indicate Phlegm excess above; left Guan and Chi fine and lacking spirit indicate Yin deficiency below. Except for Shu Di, all herbs in this formula eliminate phlegm and purify the Lung. Decocting with Shu Di soup restores Yin, allowing Qi to move; once Qi moves, the phlegm-heat above descends completely. This is not only a method tested by Mengying but also applicable to all cases of Yin deficiency with Phlegm excess, yielding hundred percent efficacy. I dare not keep it secret. Jiang Zhu Ru (Bambusae Folium, 姜竹茹) three qian, Chuan Bei Mu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus, 川贝母) pounded four qian, Xuan Fu Hua (Inulae Flos, 旋复花) bagged and decocted first three qian, Shi Hu (Dendrobii Caulis, 石斛) decocted first eight qian, fresh Lu Gen (Phragmitis Rhizoma, 芦根) one tael, Sheng Dong Gua Zi (Benincasae Semen, 生冬瓜子) four qian, Jiang Pi Ye (Eriobotryae Folium, 姜枇叶) brushed and bagged three qian, Ku Xing Ren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, 苦杏仁) added later two qian, Nan Hua Fen (Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus, 南花粉) four qian, Da Shu Di (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata, 大熟地) soaked and decocted, dregs removed, one tael.)
Xie Puxiang inherently suffered from Yin deficiency and emotional depression. After traveling far and carrying heavy loads, he developed coughing and rebellious Qi, stabbing pain in the left hypochondrium making movement difficult, complete loss of appetite, and inability to sleep comfortably. Mengying diagnosed a wiry, fine, and rapid pulse, greasy coating with sticky phlegm, and difficult, scanty defecation. This indicated Kidney Qi failing to grasp, Liver Qi stagnating, Lung Qi failing to clear, and Stomach Qi failing to descend. (Coughing and rebellious Qi indicate Lung Qi failing to clear; stabbing pain in the left hypochondrium and difficulty moving indicate Liver Qi stagnating; complete lack of appetite indicates Stomach Qi failing to descend. Wiry, fine, and rapid pulse indicates Kidney deficiency and Liver depression. Greasy coating, sticky phlegm, and difficult, scanty defecation indicate Lung and Stomach failing to descend.) He prescribed Sha Shen (Glehniae Radix, 沙参), Pi Ye (Eriobotryae Folium, 枇叶), Zhu Ru (Bambusae Folium, 茹), Bei (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus, 贝), Xuan Fu Hua (Inulae Flos, 旋), Zhi Zi (Gardeniae Fructus, 栀), Gui Ban (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum, 龟板), Bie Jia (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum, 鳖甲), Si Gua Luo (Luffae Fructus Retinervus, 丝瓜络), Dong Gua Zi (Benincasae Semen, 冬瓜子), Qing Qian (Plumbum, 青铅), Bai Qian (Cynanchi Stauntonii Rhizoma et Radix, 白前), Jin Ling Zi (Toosendan Fructus, 金铃), and Ou Rou (Nymphaeae Nelumbinis Semen, 藕肉), decocted with Shu Di (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata, 熟地) soaked in water. After several doses, the condition stabilized. Subsequently, gradual nourishment and subduing led to recovery. (Bei Sha Shen (Glehniae Radix, 北沙参) four qian, Jiang Pi Ye (Eriobotryae Folium, 姜枇叶) brushed and bagged three qian, Jiang Zhu Ru (Bambusae Folium, 姜竹茹) three qian, Chuan Bei Mu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus, 川贝母) pounded four qian, Xuan Fu Hua (Inulae Flos, 旋复花) bagged and decocted first three qian, Hei Zhi Pi (Gardeniae Fructus Pericarpium, 黑栀皮) three qian, Si Gua Luo (Luffae Fructus Retinervus, 丝瓜络) three qian, Sheng Dong Gua Zi (Benincasae Semen, 生冬瓜子) four qian, Bai Qian (Cynanchi Stauntonii Rhizoma et Radix, 白前) one qian, Shu Di (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata, 熟地) eight qian, soaked in water, dregs removed. First decoct Xue Gui Ban (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum, 血龟板) pounded three taels, Xue Bie Jia (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum, 血鳖甲) pounded one tael, Qing Qian (Plumbum, 青铅) two taels, Chuan Lian He (Toosendan Fructus, 楝核) pounded and decocted first four qian, Ou Rou (Nymphaeae Nelumbinis Semen, 藕肉) cut one tael. At 8 o'clock, add the previous herbs. For Yin deficiency with Phlegm excess, tonifying Yin and subduing Yang causes phlegm to descend naturally, proven effective repeatedly.)
Ye Cheng'en's wife, while pregnant, contracted an exogenous pathogen. She became comatose, delirious, and mute, vomited frequently, had constipation, sweating without relief, a choppy pulse, and dry mouth. This indicated inherent deficiency of Ying-Yin and blazing internal pathogenic heat. He prescribed Yuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix, 元参), Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum, 石膏), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 知母), Qin (Scutellariae Radix, 芩), Zhu Ru (Bambusae Folium, 茹), Bei (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus, 贝), Yin Hua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos, 银花), Pi Ye (Eriobotryae Folium, 枇叶), Wei (Radix Stellerae, 薇), Zhi Zi (Gardeniae Fructus, 栀), Chuan Lian Zi (Toosendan Fructus, 楝), and Shi Hu (Dendrobii Caulis, 斛) over several doses, resulting in recovery. (Yuan Shen Pian (Scrophulariae Radix, 元参片) soaked and taken after removing dregs eight qian, Sheng Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum, 生石膏) decocted first eight qian, Ginger-fried Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 知母) three qian, Ginger-fried Ku Qin (Scutellariae Radix, 枯芩) one qian, Ginger-fried Chuan Pi (Toosendan Cortex, 楝皮) pitted two qian, Jiang Zhu Ru (Bambusae Folium, 姜竹茹) three qian, Chuan Bei Mu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus, 川贝母) pounded four qian, Yin Hua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos, 银花) added later one tael, Jiang Pi Ye (Eriobotryae Folium, 姜枇叶) brushed and bagged three qian, Wine-fried Bai Wei (Radix Stellerae, 白薇) one and a half qian, Wine-fried Zhi Pi (Gardeniae Fructus Pericarpium, 栀皮) three qian, Shi Hu (Dendrobii Caulis, 石斛) decocted first one tael.)
Jiang Menghua's maternal grandfather suffered from swelling and pain in both eyes, unable to open them slightly. Physicians administered wind-dispelling drugs, leading to coma, spasms, and impending syncope. Mengying palpated the pulse as surging, slippery, with extreme thirst and constipation. He prescribed Bai Hu Tang (White Tiger Decoction, 白虎汤) for two doses, resulting in sudden recovery. (Sheng Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum, 生石膏) decocted first one tael and six qian, Wine-fried Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 知母) four qian, Sheng Yi Yi Ren (Coicis Semen, 生苡仁) pounded eight qian, Sheng Dong Gua Zi (Benincasae Semen, 生冬瓜子) four qian, Nan Hua Fen (Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus, 南花粉) five qian, fresh Zhu Ye (Bambusae Folium, 竹叶) two qian, Ji Yin Hua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos, 济银花) one tael and five qian, Qing Guo (Canarii Fructus, 青果) with core pounded and decocted first two qian, Xuan Fu Hua (Inulae Flos, 旋复花) bagged and decocted first three qian, Sheng Zhe Shi (Hematitum, 生赭石) pounded and decocted first eight qian, Dan Dou Chi (Sojae Semini Preparatum, 淡豆豉) one and a half qian, Shi Hu (Dendrobii Caulis, 石斛) decocted first one tael, Dan Hai Zhe (Marina Concha, 淡海蜇) decocted first two taels.)
Pan Futang's daughter contracted an exogenous pathogen. Shen Yueting treated her, and she gradually improved, except for a sensation of obstruction in the throat without any physical mass, hindering the swallowing of food and water. Mengying prescribed Zhu Ye Shi Gao Tang (Leaf and Gypsum Decoction, 竹叶石膏汤) plus Zi Wan (Asteris Radix, 紫菀), Bai Qian (Cynanchi Stauntonii Rhizoma et Radix, 白前), Xuan Fu Hua (Inulae Flos, 旋复花), and Pi Ye (Eriobotryae Folium, 枇叶) to clear the Lung and descend Lung Qi. Indeed, she felt comfortable immediately. (The phrase "obstruction in the throat without any physical mass" indicates excess heat in the Lung and failure of Lung Qi to descend. Fresh Zhu Ye (Bambusae Folium, 竹叶) two qian, Sheng Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum, 生石膏) decocted first eight qian, Wine-fried Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 知母) four qian, Prepared Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 制半夏) ground and added later one qian, Zi Wan Rong (Asteris Radix, 紫菀茸) one and a half qian, Bai Qian (Cynanchi Stauntonii Rhizoma et Radix, 白前) two qian, Xuan Fu Hua (Inulae Flos, 旋复花) bagged and decocted first three qian, fresh Pi Ye (Eriobotryae Folium, 鲜枇叶) brushed and bagged three qian.)
Wu Xi suffered from malaria, with mild chills and severe fever, lasting more than ten days without resolution. Mengying palpated the pulse as slippery and long, and prescribed a large dose of Bai Hu Tang (White Tiger Decoction, 白虎汤). The previous physician also advocated this formula, but repeated doses were ineffective. Although the soup was named Bai Hu, the Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum, 石膏) was scarce and roasted, and the rice was not removed. Although the name was the same, the dosage and preparation differed significantly, and rice was replaced with Hua Fen (Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus, 花粉). The efficacy was entirely different. This shows that taking medicine should not merely rely on the name of the formula. (Sheng Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum, 生石膏) decocted first one tael and two qian, Wine-fried Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 知母) four qian, Nan Hua Fen (Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus, 南花粉) four qian, Jiang Zhu Ru (Bambusae Folium, 姜竹茹) three qian, Xi Hua Shi (Talcum, 西滑石) decocted first five qian, Sheng Dong Gua Zi (Benincasae Semen, 生冬瓜子) four qian, Hei Zhi Pi (Gardeniae Fructus Pericarpium, 黑栀皮) three qian, Dan Dou Chi (Sojae Semini Preparatum, 淡豆豉) one and a half qian, Dong Gua Pi (Benincasae Exocarpium, 冬瓜皮) three qian.)
Cao Jiamai, a young woman, suffered from vertigo, epigastric pain, muscle twitching, acid regurgitation, thirst with drinking but no appetite, and a sensation of a lump in the throat like roasting meat. Zhu Mou prescribed warm stomach herbs, worsening the condition daily. Mengying palpated the pulse as wiry and slippery, and prescribed Zhu Ru (Bambusae Folium, 茹), Bei (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus, 贝), Yu (Evodiae Fructus, 萸), Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 连), Xuan Fu Hua (Inulae Flos, 旋), Zhe Shi (Hematitum, 赭), Zhi Zi (Gardeniae Fructus, 栀), Chuan Lian Zi (Toosendan Fructus, 楝), Zhi Shi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus, 枳), Yu Jin (Curcumae Radix, 郁), and Xue Geng Tang (Snow Soup Decoction, 雪羹). After more than ten doses, she recovered. (Vertigo and epigastric pain indicate Liver Yang insulting the Stomach and failure of Stomach Qi to descend. A wiry pulse indicates Yin deficiency and Liver heat; slippery indicates Phlegm-heat. Jiang Zhu Ru (Bambusae Folium, 姜竹茹) three qian, Chuan Bei Mu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus, 川贝母) pounded five qian, Dan Wu Zhu Yu (Evodiae Fructus, 淡吴萸) added later six fen, Wine-fried Chuan Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 川连) one qian, Xuan Fu Hua (Inulae Flos, 旋复花) bagged and decocted first three qian, Sheng Zhe Shi (Hematitum, 生赭石) pounded and decocted first two taels, Wine-fried Chuan Lian He (Toosendan Fructus, 川楝核) pounded and decocted first three qian, Fried Zhi Shi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus, 枳实) one and a half qian, Huang Yu Jin (Curcumae Radix, 黄郁金) one qian, whole Bi Qi (Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae Rhizoma, 荸荠) pounded one tael, Dan Hai Zhe (Marina Concha, 淡海蜇) decocted first two taels.)
Mrs. Xia, while pregnant, contracted an exogenous pathogen. Physicians administered warm dispersants, gradually leading to rushing Qi, insomnia, frequent spasms and syncope, epigastric fullness, groaning, extreme thirst difficult to quench. Mengying palpated the pulse as slippery, rapid, and overflowing. He prescribed Xiao Xian Xiong Tang (Minor Sinking Chest Decoction, 小陷胸) plus Xuan Fu Hua (Inulae Flos, 旋), Xie Bai (Allii Macrostemonis Bulbus, 薤), Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum, 石膏), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 知), Zhi Zi (Gardeniae Fructus, 栀), Zhu Ru (Bambusae Folium, 茹), Xing Ren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, 杏), Fu Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 腹皮), Su Zi (Perillae Fructus, 苏子), Zhu Li (Bambusae Sap, 竹沥), and Hai Zhe (Marina Concha, 海蜇) in a large dose. After ten days, she recovered. (The pathology resulted from warm dispersants depleting fluids, Liver and Intestines insulting the Stomach, failure of fluids to distribute Qi, and weakness of the Gastrointestinal tract. Ginger-fried Chuan Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 川连) two qian, Prepared Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 制半夏) one and a half qian, Lou Ren (Trichosanthis Semen, 瓜蒌仁) ground three qian, Xuan Fu Hua (Inulae Flos, 旋复花) bagged and decocted first three qian, fresh Xie Bai (Allii Macrostemonis Bulbus, 薤白) pounded and added later one and a half qian, Sheng Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum, 生石膏) decocted first one tael and two qian, Ginger-juice fried Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 知母) three qian, Hei Zhi Pi (Gardeniae Fructus Pericarpium, 黑栀皮) three qian, Jiang Zhu Ru (Bambusae Folium, 姜竹茹) three qian, Ku Xing Ni (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, 苦杏泥) two qian, Sheng Su Zi (Perillae Fructus, 生苏子) ground one and a half qian, Ginger Zhu Li (Bambusae Sap, 姜竹沥) two large wine cups mixed, Dan Hai Zhe (Marina Concha, 淡海蜇) decocted first two taels. In the formula, Xia Ku Cao (Prunellae Spica, 夏枯草), Xie Bai, Xing Ren, Fu Pi, and Su Zi are set for extreme thirst and weak Stomach Yang.) Shen Yueting's wife suffered from gingival bleeding for five days without stopping, having lost much blood. Various prescriptions failed. Mengying palpated the pulse as wiry, slippery, and overflowing upwards. He prescribed Xi Jiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu, 犀角), Ze Lan (Lygodii Herba, 泽兰), Yuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix, 元参), Xuan Fu Hua (Inulae Flos, 旋复花), Sheng Di (Rehmanniae Radix, 生地), Hua Fen (Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus, 花粉), Fu Ling (Poria, 茯苓), Niu Xi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix, 牛膝), Tao Ren (Persicae Semen, 桃仁), and Ze Xie (Alismatis Rhizoma, 泽泻), resulting in stability. (Profuse blood loss combined with a wiry, slippery, overflowing pulse indicates Yin exhaustion and rising wind, stirring phlegm rebelling upwards. Slivered Xi Jiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu, 犀角) decocted first four qian, Ze Lan Ye (Lygodii Herba, 泽兰叶) added later one and a half qian, Yuan Shen Pian (Scrophulariae Radix, 元参片) one tael, Xuan Fu Hua (Inulae Flos, 旋复花) bagged and decocted first three qian, Da Sheng Di (Rehmanniae Radix, 大生地) eight qian, Nan Hua Fen (Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus, 南花粉) four qian, Yun Fu Ling (Poria, 云茯苓) three qian, Prepared Niu Xi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix, 制牛膝) one qian, Sheng Tao Ren (Persicae Semen, 生桃仁) ground one and a half qian, Sheng Ze Xie (Alismatis Rhizoma, 生泽泻) one and a half qian.) Later inquiry revealed her menstruation was late for the month, indicating reverse flow. Subsequent treatment with Yin-nourishing and heat-clearing methods led to gradual recovery.
When Wang Xuexuan mistakenly took Tou Tu Dan (Earth-Penetrating Pill, 透土丹) last year, Mengying invited physicians to treat him until he recovered, then advised him to regularly drink Persimmon Cake Soup (Shi Bing Tang, 柿饼汤) to prevent Guan Ge (Obstruction and Reversal, 关格) in the future. In April of the next year, his body grew thinner daily. Zhang Mou prescribed damp-draining, wind-dispersing, and Qi-tonifying herbs. Mengying strongly advised against warm tonification, but he mistakenly continued taking tonics. In autumn, Mengying examined him: hypochondriac pain, aversion to wind, distension in the meridians, desire to beat himself, poor appetite, difficult defecation, slight chills and fever in the afternoon, wiry, choppy, and rapid pulse, with the right Cun and Guan positions wiry and slippery. This indicated long-term obstruction of ascending and descending mechanisms, with pathogenic phlegm attacking the collateral channels, approaching the state of Guan Ge. He reluctantly prescribed Sha Shen (Glehniae Radix, 沙参), Zhu Ru (Bambusae Folium, 茹), Bei (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus, 贝), Wei (Radix Stellerae, 薇), Qing Hao (Artemisiae Annuae Herba, 蒿), Xuan Fu Hua (Inulae Flos, 旋), Shi Hu (Dendrobii Caulis, 斛), Zhi Zi (Gardeniae Fructus, 栀), Chuan Lian Zi (Toosendan Fructus, 楝), Ze Lan (Lygodii Herba, 兰), Pi Ye (Eriobotryae Folium, 枇叶), Si Gua Luo (Luffae Fructus Retinervus, 丝瓜络), Dong Gua Zi (Benincasae Semen, 冬瓜子), Lu Gen (Phragmitis Rhizoma, 芦根), and Mao Gen (Imperatae Rhizoma, 茅根) in varying combinations. After taking it, chills and fever ceased, and hypochondriac pain decreased. (This case resulted from mistaken warm tonification; long-term obstruction of ascending and descending mechanisms is the remote cause, while pathogenic phlegm attacking collaterals is the proximate cause. To eliminate phlegm, one must first regulate ascending and descending. Wiry and rapid indicate heat, so the formula contains many cooling, moistening, clearing, and unblocking herbs. Jiang Zhu Ru (Bambusae Folium, 姜竹茹) three qian, Chuan Bei Mu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus, 川贝母) pounded four qian, Jiang Zhi Pi (Gardeniae Fructus Pericarpium, 姜栀皮) three qian, Jiang Pi Ye (Eriobotryae Folium, 姜枇叶) brushed and bagged three qian, Si Gua Luo (Luffae Fructus Retinervus, 丝瓜络) three qian, Ginger-juice mixed Lu Gen (Phragmitis Rhizoma, 芦根) eight qian, Pei Lan (Agastaches Herba, 佩兰) three qian. Changed formula: remove Zhi Pi and Pi Ye, add Bei Sha Shen (Glehniae Radix, 北沙参) four qian. Changed again: remove Zhu Ru, add Shi Hu (Dendrobii Caulis, 石斛) decocted first eight qian. Changed again: remove Sha Shen, add Chuan Lian He (Toosendan Fructus, 楝核) pounded and decocted first three qian. Changed again: add Xiang Bai Wei (Radix Stellerae, 香白薇) one qian, fresh Qing Hao (Artemisiae Annuae Herba, 青蒿) one and a half qian, Xuan Fu Hua (Inulae Flos, 旋复花) bagged and decocted first three qian. Pulse analysis indicates phlegm obstructing Qi.) The pulse became harmonious, but Liver Yin was damaged by excessive worrying. Emotional disturbance is strictly contraindicated. However, anger and lingering thoughts caused complications. Mistaken warm dispersants and tonification followed, leading to a dry, purple tongue, exhaustion of fluids, and death.
Xu Mengxiang, nearly sixty years old, suffered from hand tremors preventing him from holding a brush. Mengying prescribed tonifying and wind-extinguishing herbs taken with Zhi Mi Fu Ling Wan (Finger-Bewitching Poria Pill, 指迷茯苓丸), resulting in stability. In mid-autumn, he suffered a stroke-like condition with urinary incontinence, rising phlegm, coma, delirious speech, profuse sweating, and red face. Mengying observed a floating, wiry, surging, and slippery pulse, attributing it to inhaling Summerheat pathogens while continuously taking Ginseng soup. He prescribed Ling Jiao (Bovis Cornu, 羚角), Shi Chang Pu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma, 石菖蒲), Lian Qiao (Forsythiae Fructus, 连翘), Zhi Zi (Gardeniae Fructus, 栀子), Sang Ye (Mori Folium, 桑叶), Ju Hua (Chrysanthemi Flos, 菊花), Chuan Lian Zi (Toosendan Fructus, 楝), Shi Hu (Dendrobii Caulis, 斛), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 知母), Hua Fen (Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus, 花粉), Zhu Li (Bambusae Sap, 竹沥), Yin Hua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos, 银花), Qing Hao (Artemisiae Annuae Herba, 蒿), and Bai Wei (Radix Stellerae, 薇). (Pathology: warm tonification aided heat, Liver Wind stirred phlegm rebelling upwards causing syncope. Ling Jiao (Bovis Cornu, 羚角) tip decocted first four qian, Shi Chang Pu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma, 石菖蒲) added later two qian, Lian Qiao Ke (Forsythiae Fructus, 连翘壳) three qian, Hei Zhi Pi (Gardeniae Fructus Pericarpium, 黑栀皮) three qian, Dong Sang Ye (Mori Folium, 冬桑叶) four qian, Hang Bai Ju (Chrysanthemi Flos, 杭白菊) three qian, Chuan Lian He (Toosendan Fructus, 川楝核) pounded and decocted first two qian, Shi Hu (Dendrobii Caulis, 石斛) decocted first one tael, Wine-fried Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 知母) three qian, Nan Hua Fen (Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus, 南花粉) four qian, Ginger Zhu Li (Bambusae Sap, 姜竹沥) two large wine cups mixed, Yin Hua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos, 银花) one tael and five qian, fresh Qing Hao (Artemisiae Annuae Herba, 青蒿) one and a half qian, Xiang Bai Wei (Radix Stellerae, 香白薇) two qian. The formula uses bitter, sweet, and cold herbs to extinguish wind and rescue fluids; Chang Pu and Qing Hao act as counter-agents.) One dose brought improvement, two doses cleared the mind. Then Ling Jiao and Shi Chang Pu were removed, and Zhu Ru (Bambusae Folium, 茹), Bei (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus, 贝), and Hua Shi (Talcum, 滑石) were added. (Added Jiang Zhu Ru (Bambusae Folium, 姜竹茹) three qian, Chuan Bei Mu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus, 川贝母) pounded four qian, Xi Hua Shi (Talcum, 西滑石) decocted first five qian.) He had diarrhea resembling white pus for several days, then regained appetite and ate grain. Subsequent regulation led to recovery.
Zhang Yuebo's younger brother suddenly suffered abdominal pain after eating mutton noodles. Physicians assumed food stagnation and administered digestive herbs repeatedly. Pain intensified with thirst; drinking caused violent vomiting. Urination and defecation stopped. Suspecting cold accumulation, they administered drying and hot herbs, worsening the condition. He groaned almost dying for four days. Mengying examined him: wiry and rapid pulse, dry and slightly yellow coating, soft abdomen upon pressure. He gave Hai Zhe (Marina Concha, 海蜇) one jin and Bi Qi (Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae Rhizoma, 荸荠) half a jin decocted in soup, frequently administered. Vomiting stopped. He instructed to decoct the remaining soup with Zhi Zi (Gardeniae Fructus, 栀), Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 连), Chuan Lian Zi (Toosendan Fructus, 楝), Shi Hu (Dendrobii Caulis, 斛), Zhu Ru (Bambusae Folium, 茹), Qin (Scutellariae Radix, 芩), Pi Ye (Eriobotryae Folium, 枇叶), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 知母), Yan Hu Suo (Corydalis Rhizoma, 延胡), Shi Di (Kaki Calyx, 柿蒂), and Xuan Fu Hua (Inulae Flos, 旋复花) as a formula, taken with Long Hui Wan (Dragon Gallbladder Pill, 龙荟丸). After administration, urination occurred, pain decreased, and defecation happened the next day, leading to recovery. (Severe pain with thirst indicates warm herbs damaged Yin and Liver Yang rebelled upwards. Repeated drying and hot herbs nearly exhausted Yin fluids. Hence, a large dose of Xue Geng (Snow Soup, 雪羹) was frequently administered to rescue Yin. Soup decocted with Hei Zhi Pi (Gardeniae Fructus Pericarpium, 黑栀皮) three qian, Wine-fried Chuan Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 川连) one qian, Wine-fried Chuan Lian He (Toosendan Fructus, 川楝核) pounded and decocted first two qian, Shi Hu (Dendrobii Caulis, 石斛) decocted first one tael, Jiang Zhu Ru (Bambusae Folium, 姜竹茹) three qian, Wine-fried Ku Qin (Scutellariae Radix, 枯芩) one and a half qian, fresh Pi Ye (Eriobotryae Folium, 鲜枇叶) brushed and bagged three qian, Wine-fried Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 知母) three qian, Yuan Hu Suo (Corydalis Rhizoma, 元胡索) one and a half qian, dried Shi Di (Kaki Calyx, 柿蒂) ten pieces, Xuan Fu Hua (Inulae Flos, 旋复花) bagged and decocted first three qian. Medicine taken with Long Hui Wan (Dragon Gallbladder Pill, 龙荟丸) three qian.)
Huang Dingru's mother, seventy-seven years old, suffered from intermittent malaria in late autumn, worsening each episode. Severe chills with slight fever, but fever always accompanied coma and spasms, inability to extend the tongue. After three episodes, Mengying examined her: red cheekbones, drooping eyelids, cold nose, slight sweating on forehead and chin, greasy yellow coating, pure red tongue root, thirst, profuse phlegm, no desire for porridge or drinks, wiry and rapid pulse, lacking spirit upon deep pressure. The syndrome belonged to latent Summerheat with phlegm, and Yin deficiency with Yang floating. He first prescribed Cong Rong (Cynomorii Herba, 苁蓉), Bie Jia (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum, 鳖甲), Chuan Lian Zi (Toosendan Fructus, 楝), Shi Hu (Dendrobii Caulis, 斛), Zhu Ru (Bambusae Folium, 茹), Bei (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus, 贝), Yan Wo (Swallow's Nest, 燕窝), and Ou (Nymphaeae Nelumbinis Semen, 藕). (Latent Summerheat with phlegm requires light and clear herbs like Zhu Ru and Bei. However, with Yin deficiency and Yang floating, the body's Qi fails to descend first, so how can medicinal Qi descend? Usually, treat symptoms first, then root. If the root disease is severe, the root becomes the symptom. Latent Summerheat with phlegm is a symptom, but Yin deficiency with Yang floating makes the root the symptom. Dan Cong Rong (Cynomorii Herba, 淡苁蓉) one and a half qian, Xue Bie Jia (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum, 血鳖甲) pounded four taels, Chuan Lian He (Toosendan Fructus, 楝核) pounded four qian, Shi Hu (Dendrobii Caulis, 石斛) one tael, Yan Wo (Swallow's Nest, 燕窝) bagged three qian, Ou (Nymphaeae Nelumbinis Semen, 藕) cut two taels. These six ingredients decocted first for eight hours, Jiang Zhu Ru (Bambusae Folium, 姜竹茹) four qian, Chuan Bei Mu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus, 川贝母) pounded one tael, added together later.) After two doses, red cheeks and chin sweating ceased. Subsequently supplemented with Sha Shen (Glehniae Radix, 沙参), Zhu Li (Bambusae Sap, 竹沥), Xie Bai (Allii Macrostemonis Bulbus, 薤), Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Japonici Bulbus, 麦), and Pi Ye (Eriobotryae Folium, 枇叶), Xuan Fu Hua (Inulae Flos, 旋复花), removing Zhu Ru and Cong Rong. (Bei Sha Shen (Glehniae Radix, 北沙参) eight qian, Ginger Zhu Li (Bambusae Sap, 姜竹沥) two large wine cups mixed, fresh Xie Bai (Allii Macrostemonis Bulbus, 鲜薤白) pounded one and a half qian, fresh Pi Ye (Eriobotryae Folium, 鲜枇叶) brushed and bagged three qian, Xuan Fu Hua (Inulae Flos, 旋复花) bagged and decocted first three qian.) After three doses, coma and spasms stopped. Then Xie Bai and Chuan Lian Zi were removed, and Sheng Di (Rehmanniae Radix, 生地) and Hua Fen (Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus, 花粉) added. After five doses, malaria ceased. (Da Sheng Di (Rehmanniae Radix, 大生地) eight qian, Nan Hua Fen (Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus, 南花粉) four qian.) Diet gradually increased, and she declared recovered. (Note: This is the treatment for Jueyin Liver Malaria.)
Xu Zhiqing suffered from external cold requiring heavy quilts, internal heat not relieved by drinking, yet able to eat normally, with normal urination and defecation. Administered warm dispersants, immediately showing sore throat. Mengying palpated the pulse as deep, wiry, and slow, diagnosing internal latent Phlegm-heat. He prescribed Xi Jiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu, 犀角), Ling Jiao (Bovis Cornu, 羚), Yuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix, 元参), Dan Pi (Moutan Cortex, 丹皮), Bai Wei (Radix Stellerae, 白薇), Hei Zhi Zi (Gardeniae Fructus, 黑栀), Zhu Ru (Bambusae Folium, 茹), Bei (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus, 贝), Xuan Fu Hua (Inulae Flos, 旋), and Niu Bang Zi (Arctii Fructus, 蒡). (Ability to eat normally and normal urination/defecation indicate the disease is not at the Qi level. Thirst not relieved by drinking and sore throat after warm dispersants indicate internal wind has moved. Deep wiry pulse indicates suppressed Liver heat; slow pulse indicates phlegm-turbidity obstructing Qi, not Spleen Yang deficiency. Slivered Xi Jiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu, 犀角) and Ling Jiao (Bovis Cornu, 羚) tip decocted first, four qian each, Yuan Shen Pian (Scrophulariae Radix, 元参片) soaked and taken after removing dregs one tael, Fen Dan Pi (Moutan Cortex, 粉丹皮) two qian, Xiang Bai Wei (Radix Stellerae, 香白薇) one qian, Hei Zhi Pi (Gardeniae Fructus Pericarpium, 黑栀皮) three qian, Jiang Zhu Ru (Bambusae Folium, 姜竹茹) three qian, Chuan Bei Mu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus, 川贝母) pounded four qian, Xuan Fu Hua (Inulae Flos, 旋复花) bagged and decocted first one and a half qian, Ginger-fried Niu Bang Zi (Arctii Fructus, 牛蒡子) three qian.) After two doses, chills, thirst, and sore throat decreased. Then Xi Jiao, Ling Jiao, and Niu Bang Zi were removed, and Er Zhi Wan (Two Solstice Pill, 二至), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 知母), Hua Fen (Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus, 花粉), and Yin Hua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos, 银花) added. Resolution of fermented stool led to recovery. (Nv Zhen Zi (Ligustri Lucidi Fructus, 女贞子) pounded five qian, Han Lian Cao (Ecliptae Herba, 旱莲草) four qian, Wine-fried Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 知母) three qian, Ginger-juice fried Hua Fen (Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus, 花粉) four qian, Ji Yin Hua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos, 济银花) added later eight qian.)
Han Zulin, near seventy years old, suffered from limb coldness and head swelling in early winter, delirious speech, and urinary incontinence. Another physician diagnosed deficient wind and administered warm tonification, worsening the condition. Mengying palpated the pulse: left wiry and rapid, right slippery and overflowing. This indicated internal obstruction by Phlegm-heat and external invasion of Wind-Warmth. He prescribed Ling Jiao (Bovis Cornu, 羚), Bei (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus, 贝), Zhu Ru (Bambusae Folium, 茹), Zhi Zi (Gardeniae Fructus, 栀), Qiao (Forsythiae Fructus, 翘), Wei (Radix Stellerae, 薇), Sang Ye (Mori Folium, 桑), Ju Hua (Chrysanthemi Flos, 菊), Hua Fen (Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus, 花粉), Dan Pi (Moutan Cortex, 丹皮), and Xuan Fu Hua (Inulae Flos, 旋复花), decocted with Lu Fu Tang (Radish Soup, 芦菔汤), resulting in recovery. (Left wiry and rapid indicates Yin deficiency with Liver heat; right slippery and overflowing indicates Wind-Yang stirring phlegm rebelling upwards. The formula's principle is to extinguish Wind-Yang and eliminate Phlegm-heat. Ling Jiao (Bovis Cornu, 羚) tip decocted first, four qian, Chuan Bei Mu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus, 川贝母) pounded four qian, Jiang Zhu Ru (Bambusae Folium, 姜竹茹) three qian, Hei Zhi Pi (Gardeniae Fructus Pericarpium, 黑栀皮) three qian, Lian Qiao Ke (Forsythiae Fructus, 连翘壳) three qian, Xiang Bai Wei (Radix Stellerae, 香白薇) one qian, Dong Sang Ye (Mori Folium, 冬桑叶) four qian, Hang Bai Ju (Chrysanthemi Flos, 杭白菊) three qian, Fen Dan Pi (Moutan Cortex, 粉丹皮) two qian, Nan Hua Fen (Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus, 南花粉) four qian, Lu Fu (Raphani Sativi Radix, 芦菔) one tael, simmered soup to remove dregs before decocting herbs.)
Qian Wen Yuan's son contracted an exogenous pathogen. Tang Mou prescribed Gui (Cinnamomi Ramulus, 桂), Po (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, 朴), Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, 姜), and Chai (Bupleuri Radix, 柴). He then frequently expectorated phlegm-blood, experienced mental confusion and deafness, delirious speech, loose stools, lack of appetite, extreme thirst, black and rough scanty coating, and sleeplessness all night. Various physicians repeatedly prescribed light and clear herbs; the black coating gradually receded, but the tongue became crimson without fluids, and external symptoms remained unchanged, leaving physicians helpless. Mengying palpated the pulse as fine and rapid throughout. This indicated inherent deficiency of True Yin and scorching of Ying-Fluids. One should not fear cloying herbs due to loose stools and anorexia. He prescribed Xi Yang Shen (American Ginseng Radix, 西洋参), Sheng Di (Rehmanniae Radix, 生地), Er Zhi Wan (Two Solstice Pill, 二至), Er Dong (Ophiopogon and Asparagus Roots, 二冬), Gui Ban (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum, 龟板), Yan Wo (Swallow's Nest, 燕窝), Zhu Ru (Bambusae Folium, 茹), Bei (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus, 贝), Yin Hua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos, 银花), Ou Zhi (Nymphaeae Nelumbinis Succus, 藕汁), Li Zhi (Pyrus Sinkiangensis Succus, 梨汁), Yu Zhu (Polygonati Odorati Rhizoma, 玉竹), and Bai He (Lilii Bulbus, 百合). After two doses, hemoptysis gradually stopped, much phlegm was expectorated, thin gruel was gradually accepted, and some sleep was possible at night. After five doses, fever subsided, diarrhea stopped, thirst decreased, and the pulse harmonized. Ten days later, dry feces were passed, and he recovered. (Loose stools without excess pathogens indicate Spleen failure and Chu Zhong (False Recovery, 除中). Loose stools with excess pathogens indicate heat seeking an exit. These eight pulse and symptom descriptions are all signs of excess heat. With a fine and rapid pulse, why fear cloying herbs? Xi Yang Shen (American Ginseng Radix, 西洋参) three qian, Da Sheng Di (Rehmanniae Radix, 大生地) eight qian, Nv Zhen Zi (Ligustri Lucidi Fructus, 女贞子) pounded five qian, Han Lian Cao (Ecliptae Herba, 旱莲草) four qian, Ming Tian Dong (Asparagi Radix, 明天冬) cut six qian, Hua Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Japonici Bulbus, 花麦冬) four qian, Xue Gui Ban (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum, 血龟板) pounded four taels, Yan Wo (Swallow's Nest, 燕窝) bagged three qian. These two decocted first for eight hours, Jiang Zhu Ru (Bambusae Folium, 姜竹茹) three qian, Chuan Bei Mu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus, 川贝母) pounded four qian, Ji Yin Hua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos, 济银花) eight qian, Ou Zhi (Nymphaeae Nelumbinis Succus, 藕汁) and Li Zhi (Pyrus Sinkiangensis Succus, 梨汁) half a large wine cup each mixed, Fei Yu Zhu (Polygonati Odorati Rhizoma, 肥玉竹) three qian, Bai He Hua (Lilii Bulbus, 百合花) three qian.)
Zhu Xiang Cha's son suddenly vomited violently and fainted after a full meal, with cold sweat and faint breathing. Mengying examined him: after the faint resolved, abdominal pain was abnormal, mouth extremely bitter and thirsty, urination and defecation stopped, pulse was wiry and slow. This indicated phlegm stagnation and heat latent in the Jueyin channel, with no way for Liver Qi to disperse. He prescribed Xue Geng (Snow Soup, 雪羹), Zhi Zi (Gardeniae Fructus, 栀), Chuan Lian Zi (Toosendan Fructus, 楝), Yuan Hu Suo (Corydalis Rhizoma, 元胡), Cong Rong (Cynomorii Herba, 苁蓉), Wu Zhu Yu (Evodiae Fructus, 萸), Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 连), Ju He (Citri Reticulatae Fructus, 橘核), Xuan Fu Hua (Inulae Flos, 旋复花), Zhu Ru (Bambusae Folium, 茹), and Fu Zhi (Raphani Sativi Succus, 菔汁). (Violent vomiting, fainting, and pulse/symptoms indicate Liver heat congested with phlegm and failure of Liver dispersion. Dan Hai Zhe (Marina Concha, 淡海蜇) decocted first two taels, Bi Qi (Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae Rhizoma, 荸荠) pounded one tael, Hei Zhi Pi (Gardeniae Fructus Pericarpium, 黑栀皮) three qian, Chuan Lian He (Toosendan Fructus, 川楝核) pounded and decocted first three qian, Yuan Hu Suo (Corydalis Rhizoma, 元胡索) one and a half qian, Dan Wu Zhu Yu (Evodiae Fructus, 淡吴茱萸) six fen, Ginger-fried Chuan Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 川连) eight fen, Ju He (Citri Reticulatae Fructus, 橘核) pounded one and a half qian, Jiang Zhu Ru (Bambusae Folium, 姜竹茹) three qian, Fu Zhi (Raphani Sativi Succus, 菔汁) half a wine cup mixed, Dan Cong Rong (Cynomorii Herba, 淡苁蓉) one and a half qian.) After one dose, pain decreased; after another dose, bowels moved, and he recovered.
