Anzhi Feng (Stagnant Madness)
Bi syndrome (numbness and impaired movement of limbs) in the hands and feet. Pale spots scattered over the entire body. Sparse eyebrows, itchy skin. The gait of the feet is abnormal, resembling the movement of a snake. The infected person is often unaware of their condition. Treat primarily with Xiaoshen Wan (Little Divine Pill). This is not Leprosy (Mafeng). Examine the symptoms carefully to prescribe medication; alternatively, treat with the aforementioned formulas.
Liudu Feng (Flowing Poison Madness)
Previously infected with disease, having taken Qinfen (Calomel, a mercury compound), suffering from recurrent sores and rashes, which led to numbness. Red patches remain on the affected areas, either ulcerated or eroded. Eyebrows are sparse, hair is thinning. Treatment with the preceding formula yields immediate results. This is not Leprosy (Mafeng). If treated at the initial stage, it will heal immediately.
Ganli Feng (Infected Pestilence Madness)
Purely heat-toxin qi envelops the space between the skin, while dampness hides within the bones and muscles. The skin turns red and develops spots; beard and eyebrows fall out completely; the whole body rots, emitting an unbearable foul odor. Treat primarily with formulas that tonify the Kidney and Spleen, dispel wind, and eliminate dampness. This results from infection with miasma pestilence qi, leading to Great Leprosy (Dama Feng).
Note: Among the thirty-six types of Feng mentioned above, although the categories are numerous, if one can examine the exterior and interior, deficiency and excess, observe the depth of the disease root, the severity of cold and heat, determine which meridian pattern it belongs to, which meridian location it involves, identify the principal herb and the guiding herb, and direct the medicine into the specific meridian—using the appropriate herb for the existing symptom—is there any need to distinguish by name? (Recorded by Xiaoting)
1. Skin Death: Numbness and insensitivity. (Easy to treat)
2. Flesh Death: Incision with a knife does not sever the tissue. (Treatable if the affected area is small)
3. Blood Death: Ulceration with dripping pus and fluid. (Treatable)
4. Tendon Death: Detachment of hands and feet. (Incurable)
5. Bone Death: Collapse of the nasal bridge. (Difficult to treat; even if treated, symptoms cannot be reversed)
Deafness accompanied by complete loss of voice. (Difficult to treat)
Impotence. (Difficult to treat)
Indulgence in sexual activity without restraint. (No need to treat)
Cases involving karmic retribution are definitely incurable. Furthermore, disease affecting the Liver Meridian first damages the eyes and is incurable. (However, I have previously treated such cases with various formulas for eye diseases, all of which were cured.)
Disease affecting the Heart Meridian presents as purple cloud-like erythema on the face; treat primarily with Gardeniae Semen (Zhi Zi Ren). In severe cases, sores appear all over the body, and the upper body affects the eyes; treat primarily with Coptidis Rhizoma (Huang Lian).
Disease affecting the Lung Meridian presents with prior shedding of eyebrows, hoarse voice, and nasal congestion; treat primarily with Gardeniae Semen (Zhi Zi Ren) and Morus Cortex (Sang Bai Pi). In severe cases, the nasal bridge collapses, voice becomes hoarse, speech changes, or polyps grow; treat primarily with Scutellariae Radix (Huang Qin), adding Prunus Armeniaca Semen (Xing Ren).
Disease affecting the Spleen Meridian presents with body-wide skin resembling tinea; treat primarily with Sophorae Flavescentis Radix (Ku Shen) and fresh Phellodendri Cortex (Di Gu Pi). In severe cases, speech changes, voice scatters, Earth fails to generate Metal (Spleen deficiency failing to nourish the Lung), and limbs swell; tonify with Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gan Cao) and dry dampness with Atractylodis Rhizoma (Cang Zhu).
Disease affecting the Liver Meridian presents with prior shedding of eyebrows and eyelashes, skin itching, and purple blisters on the face; treat primarily with Schizonepetae Herba (Jing Jie) and Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuan Xiong). In severe cases, the eyes are damaged; treat primarily with Viticis Fructus (Man Jing Zi) and Chrysanthemi Flos (Ju Hua). Use Schizonepetae Herba (Jing Jie) as the guiding herb. If there is spasm and contracture of the hands and feet, treat primarily with Boswelliae Resina (Ru Xiang) and Myrrhae Resina (Mo Yao). Use Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis (Gou Teng) and Gastrodiae Rhizoma (Tian Ma) as assisting herbs.
Disease affecting the Kidney Meridian presents with buzzing tinnitus; treat primarily with Lycii Fructus (Gou Qi Zi) and prepared Polygoni Multiflori Radix (Shou Wu). In severe cases, perforation begins on the soles of the feet; treat primarily with Phellodendri Cortex (Huang Bo) and Scrophulariae Radix (Xuan Shen).
