Take Cinnabar (Qinsha, 5 qian), Scorpion (Quanxie, stir-fried to remove toxicity), Gastrodia Rhizome (Tianma), White Arisaema Rhizome (Baifuzi), Bombyx Batryticatus (Jiangcan, stir-fried until dry), Dried Ginger (Ganjiang, processed), Calculus Bovis (Niuhuang) (each 5 fen), and Moschus (Shexiang, 1 fen), grind into fine powder.
Indicated for excessive thinking that damages the Heart and Spleen, leading to forgetfulness and palpitations (Zhengchong).
Use Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen, radix removed), Aucklandiae Radix (Muxiang) (each 1 qian), Poria (Fuling, peel and woody part removed), Longan Fruit (Longyanrou), Astragali Radix (Huangqi, radix removed), Ziziphi Spinosae Semen (Suanzaoren), Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu) (the above herbs are taken in equal parts or appropriate amounts).
These herbs constitute one dose. Add two zhong of water, five slices of fresh ginger, and one jujube. Decoct until one zhong remains. Take at any time. Another version includes Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui) and Polygalae Radix (Yuanzhi).
This is Guipi Tang (Restore the Spleen Decoction) without Muxiang and Baizhu, added with Poria cum Radix Pini (Fushen), Massae Medicatae Fermentatae (Banxiaqu), Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong), Platycodonis Radix (Baiziren? Note: Text says Baiziren which is usually Platycodon or Biota seed, context suggests Biota seed for calming spirit but text lists Baiziren separately later, here likely Biota Seed or similar, WHO term for Baiziren is often Biota Seed or Platycodon depending on context, given "calming" context likely Biota Seed but text distinguishes from Baiziren later? Actually text says "Baiziren" here. In TCM, Baiziren usually refers to Biota Seed (Semen Platycladi) for calming, or Platycodon Root. Given the formula context of Guipi Tang modifications for heart, it is likely Semen Platycladi. However, standard Baiziren is Semen Platycladi. Wait, later text has "Baiziren" again. Let's stick to literal translation of herb name), Semen Biocae (Baiziren), Schisandrae Fructus (Wuweizi), and Cinnamomi Cortex (Lagui). Indicated for deficiency of Heart Blood and lack of Spirit Qi, causing fright and palpitations.
This is Guipi Tang without Baizhu and Longyanrou, added with Semen Biocae (Baiziren), Ophiopogonis Radix (Maimendong), Paeoniae Radix Alba (Baishaoyao), and Fulguris Fragmentum (Zhiyanshi). Indicated for excessive thinking consuming Heart Blood. Once Heart Blood is damaged, the holding function fails, resulting in palpitations, trance-like states, propensity for sorrow and grief, pale complexion, insomnia at night, and turbid urine occasionally.
This is Guipi Tang without Huangqi, Baizhu, Muxiang, Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao), and Longyanrou, added with Semen Biocae (Baiziren), Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma (Shichangpu), Boswelliae Resina (Ruxiang), Cinnabar (Zhusha), and Succinum (Hupo). Indicated for deficiency of Qi and Blood, with many dreams during sleep.
Use Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen, radix removed), Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Danshen, washed), Poria (Baifuling, peel removed), Ziziphi Spinosae Semen (Suanzaoren, washed), Polygalae Radix (Yuanzhi, heart removed), Stemona Radix (Bubai, washed), Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma (Shichangpu, hair removed), Semen Biocae (Baiziren), Platycodonis Radix (Jiegeng), Ophiopogonis Radix (Tianmendong, heart removed), Schisandrae Fructus (Wuweizi), Poria cum Radice Pini (Fushen, wood removed), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui), and Rehmanniae Radix Preparata (Shudihuang). All in equal parts, grind into powder, mix with refined honey to make pills. Indicated for calming the mind, preserving the spirit, benefiting blood, consolidating essence, strengthening strength, preventing forgetfulness, clearing the Triple Burner, resolving phlegm-fluids, dispelling irritability and heat, removing palpitations, treating dryness of the throat and mouth, and nourishing Heart Qi.
Indicated for uterine bleeding (Lou) in women, and continuous postpartum bleeding after miscarriage that does not stop.
Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Xiong), Colla Corii Asini (Ejiao), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao) (each 1 liang), Artemisiae Argyi Folium (Aye), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui) (each 3 liang), Paeoniae Radix (Shaoyao) (4 liang), and Rehmanniae Radix (Dianguadi).
The above seven ingredients are boiled together with five sheng of water and three sheng of clear wine until three sheng remain. Strain, add the gelatin and dissolve completely. Take one sheng warm, three times a day. If not cured, prepare another dose. My commentary: Zhang Zhongjing's Xionggui Jiao'ai Tang is the ancestral formula of Siwu Tang. It already contains the components of Siwu Tang. Later generations modified and used it as the general controller for regulating blood, making it the sacred formula for Gynecology. There are various methods of addition and subtraction above and below, detailed in the following text.
