The rash belongs to the Yangming Stomach Meridian and further transmits to various Zang organs. If it transmits to the Heart, palpitations (Jingji) and fever occur; if it transmits to the Liver, teeth-grinding (Qieya) and convulsions (Fachu) occur. Treatment is suitable with Xiaochaihu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction), Daochi San (Guide Out Red Powder), administered with Ophiopogonis Radix (Maidong).
(If nasal hairs grow in the nose, extending one to two inches day and night, gradually hanging like a rope, causing unbearable pain, quickly apply powdered Boswelliae Resina (Ruxiang) externally; the effect is miraculous.)
The rash originates from the Spleen, transmitting to the Lung, where Fire-Heat blazes in the Lung. This causes sensations on the eyebrows, eyes, nose, and face as if insects are crawling, which cannot be controlled, leading the patient to rub these areas with their hands. Treatment is suitable with Ganjie Tang (Licorice and Platycodon Decoction) and Qingfei Yin (Lung-Clearing Drink), heavily using Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin), and Bupleuri Radix (Chaihu). This is because the meridians of Taiyang and Yangming manifest on the face; without Gypsum and Scutellaria, success cannot be achieved. Otherwise, coughing, wheezing, and rapid breathing may lead to critical conditions. The nose is the orifice of the Lung, favoring moistening; dryness, blackness, and desiccation resembling coal indicate blazing Lung-Fire, representing Fire overcoming Metal. The face is the gathering place of the Yangming Meridian, favoring a bright and clear eruption; scorched black complexion indicates the dispersion of essence. Skin is the exterior correspondence of the Lung; its color should be pale red. A color like cinnabar or purple indicates the image of Fire, signifying the stagnation of Fire. An orange hue indicates extreme Fire and dry Earth.
The rash belongs to the Spleen and Stomach. The Spleen is the Mother organ of the Lung; pathogenic factors transmit to the Lung. Since the Lung governs Qi, symptoms such as rapid panting and coughing occur, all governed by the Lung. Qingfei Yin (Lung-Clearing Drink) is the primary treatment.
The rash erupts in the Liver. Nails are the external orifices of the Liver Meridian. Toxicity in the Liver Meridian manifests in these external orifices. This represents Wood overcoming Earth; thus, children pick and bite their nails. Treatment is suitable with Xiaochaihu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) as the main formula, or either subduing the Liver or supporting the Liver methods are acceptable.
After the rash has erupted but not yet resolved, exposure to Wind-Cold pathogens occurs. Wind pathogen attacks the skin and hair, entering the Lung. Lung toxicity combines with external pathogens and hides between the hypochondrium, back, head, waist, and legs. The morphology resembles ghost-like lumps, named "Fengyin" (Mad Itch), causing unbearable itching. Washing with Jingjie Fangfeng Baidu San (Schizonepeta and Saposhnikovia Detoxification Powder) is suitable.
After the rash has erupted, if toxic vapors fail to penetrate fully, accompanied by heat-phlegm accumulating between the chest and diaphragm. Phlegm above the diaphragm causes panting and rebellious Qi. Drinking water or milk is blocked, and slight coughing induces vomiting. Treatment should promote Qi movement and resolve phlegm, adding Zhuru (Bambusae Caulis in Taenia), Zhuli (Bambusa Textilis Juice), and Huangjingli (Vitex Negundo Juice). Adding Pipaye (Loquat Leaf) is even better. If stimulated by Stomach-Fire, increase the dosage of Sheng Shigao (Raw Gypsum). When Fire-Toxicity rushes upward, Water and Fire clash, neither yielding. Allow the vomiting to rise upwards, while administering medicine strategically: advancing slightly causes vomiting, retreating slightly allows frequent administration, so that the body naturally accepts and digests it.
