First observe the Fu position (Fortune), then look at the Lu position (Official Salary). If the pulse is distinct and fluent, it indicates talent capable of assisting the sovereign. A deep (Chen) pulse at the Cun position (Inch) suggests a decline in official career. If the pulse shifts to the "Shu Wen Zheng Tai" position (symbolizing literary or civil service high office), there is another implication. Generally, when examining the path of official fortune, one must first look at the positions indicating advancement or retreat. If the Cun pulse is Hong (Surging) and Xian (Wiry), or Da (Large) and San (Scattered), this is a pulse indicating inability to hold office. It signifies demotion in official rank and disaster in private life. If the pulse is Hong but then weakens (Huan), the Cun pulse also indicates a decline in position. However, if the pulse is distinct and fluent, Hong, Hua (Slippery), and slightly Xian, resembling a bright pearl in a basin that strikes the fingers as it comes and goes, such a person will certainly enter the ranks of high ministers (Gong Tai).
The pulse appears distinct like picking up pearls. The Cun, Guan, and Chi positions often differ. If all are fluent, it is known as a sign of Fortune. One must carefully deduce the clarity and brightness of its Qi. For people with virtue and fortune, the pulses corresponding to the Five Zang organs must all be fluent and distinct, neither too low nor too high. If the pulse beats fifty times without stopping and shows no chaotic changes, this person has good fortune. The Guan and Chi pulses on both left and right sides should be distinct and responsive. If the Xin (Heart) position exhibits these qualities, it is an upper-grade fortune. If the Guan position shows a Hong and Run (Moist) pulse, it is a secondary grade. Other cases are considered ordinary.
The breath count remains unchanged from morning to night. Throughout life, the position is heavy and high. During diagnosis, the movement is often distinctively deep and hidden. Naturally, great fame fills the world with fragrance. Any respectful (Zun Zhong) pulse appears deep and hidden but not chaotic, distinct without stagnation or dampness. This is indeed a respectful pulse. One must also examine whether the six positions harmonize and respond to each other. The pulse is calm and secure, like a pearl in water. Such a person is respected and enjoys fame, standing out above others.
A Hong, large, broad, and modulated pulse belongs to a wealthy person. If seeking an official position, this is not suitable. If suddenly disaster arises in the Xin (Heart) position, wealth and honor turning into poverty can be expected. The Xin pulse should originally be Hong. If the pulse is initially Shi (Excess/Solid) and then Huan (Slow), promotion and talent are certain. If disaster arises in the Xin pulse, it indicates becoming poor after being rich.
Regarding wisdom, it looks like country water. The Cun pulse is large, showing slight literary promise. The Yin-Yang (Er Yi) Cun and Chi positions correspond. The Chi (Slow) pulse indicates a lower status, detailed similarly to previous examples.
The Gan (Liver) position being Qing (Light/Clear) indicates noble salary and glory. The appearance is dignified and humane. When the rate encounters Da (Large), one enjoys smoothness and peace. Respectful and cautious, like self-illumination. The Xin (Heart) position being Qing corresponds to spirit. The intelligent must become officials in the temple (court). When prosperous, looking at Jia-Yi (Wood/Fire) without stagnation, nobility and prominence appear within twenty years. The Fei (Lung) position being Qing reveals righteous talent. Skin is smooth, skilled in humor. Seeing no obstruction, fame begins to show. Official career and merit step onto jade stairs. The Shen (Kidney) position being Qing indicates much cleverness. Intelligent in dealing with things, harmonious with people. Voice is clear and smooth without stagnation. When One and Six (Water numbers) meet, how noble? The Pi (Spleen) position being Qing implies long-term foresight. Honest, sincere, without flattery, appearance dignified. Just look at the five numbers achieving harmony; wealth, honor, and fame will surely spread far.
How is the nature of the Liver being Zhuo (Turbid) and Heavy? Wild,狼狈 (wretched/disordered), heartless, leading to inferior stupidity. It is not that there is no noble aspect within, but alas, the essence is slippery yet very coarse. How is the Kidney being Heavy and Turbid again, heartless, leading to much stupidity and light disaster? This position lacks even a bit of Qing (Clearness); how can one see personal glory in life? The Spleen being Heavy and Turbid leads to wind-madness. Without trust, deceiving others, life is short. Even if the Heart pulse is Qing and responds to the finger, it should only be moderately wealthy and not excellent.
