Yin and Yang differentiation must absolutely avoid errors. Since symptoms are already distinguished into Yin and Yang, how can treatment methods be combined indiscriminately? I believe it is not necessarily impossible to treat them together. Although Yang diseases lie in Qi deficiency and Yin diseases lie in Blood insufficiency, without Phlegm (Phlegm) or Food Stagnation (Food Retention), Malaria (Malaria) would ultimately not form. Digesting Phlegm and Food Stagnation—does this differ [from treating the root]? Moreover, when Phlegm and Food do not dissipate but form a "Malaria Mother" (a mass formed by prolonged malaria), it essentially stems from Liver Qi (Liver Qi) stagnation, which then overacts on Spleen Earth (Spleen Earth). Soothing the Liver to strengthen the Earth allows Spleen Qi (Spleen Qi) to flourish, causing Phlegm and Food to transform naturally. This is treating Malaria by treating the Liver; Yin and Yang should not be treated separately.
Prescribe Shugan Liangxiao Decoction (Sothe Liver and Eliminate Two Pathogens):
Bai Shao (Radix Paeoniae Alba, 3 qian), Bai Zhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, 5 qian), Chen Pi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, 1 qian), Ban Xia (Rhizoma Pinelliae Ternatae, 1 qian), Dang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, 3 qian), Hou Po (Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis, 1 qian), Chai Hu (Radix Bupleuri, 2 qian), Fu Shen (Sclerotium Poriae Cum Radice, 3 qian), Bai Jie Zi (Semen Sinapis Albæ, 1 qian).
For Qi deficiency, add Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng, 3 qian); for Blood deficiency, add Shu Di Huang (Prepared Radix Rehmanniae, 8 qian). Decoct in water and take orally. After eight doses, profuse sweating will occur, leading to recovery.
This formula employs a method of treating both Yin and Yang simultaneously. It guides Yang out of the Yang aspect within Yin nourishment, without injuring Yin. It guides Yin away from the Yin aspect within Yang tonification, without damaging Yang. The two guide each other, causing the righteous Qi of Yin and Yang to grow daily, naturally restraining each other so that the pathogenic factors of Yin and Yang diminish daily. Furthermore, adding Ren Shen aids Yang for Qi deficiency, and adding Shu Di Huang nourishes Yin for Blood deficiency; this is also a differentiated treatment of Yin and Yang. How could any Malaria not be eliminated? People see its miraculous effect in treating Malaria and assume this formula governs Yin and Yang to treat Malaria, who knows it merely eliminates Phlegm and Food Stagnation and stops the stagnation of Liver Qi?
This condition can also be effectively treated with Sanmu Tang (Disperse Mass Decoction).
Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng), He Shou Wu (Polygoni Multiflori Radix), Ban Xia (Rhizoma Pinelliae Ternatae), Bie Jia (Carapax et Plastrum Testudinis, each 3 qian), Bai Shao (Radix Paeoniae Alba), Bai Zhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, each 5 qian), Chai Hu (Radix Bupleuri, 1 qian), Qing Pi (Exocarpium Citri Reticulatae Viride), Shen Qu (Massa Medicata Fermentata, each 2 qian). Decoct in water and take orally.
Some people speak excessively, injuring Qi, resulting in coughing and expectoration. Over time, Qi becomes timid, Heat arises in the Lungs, shortness of breath occurs, there is a desire to sleep, loss of appetite, stiffness and spasm of the spine, soreness and pain, nocturnal emission and spermatorrhea, tidal fever and sweating, weakness in the feet and knees. People consider this a consumption-type deficiency syndrome, but who knows it began with Qi injury? To injure Qi is to injure the Lungs. When the Lungs are injured, Metal (Lung) weakens and cannot generate Water (Kidney). The Kidney Meridian lacks the source of nourishment and transformation; how can it distribute surplus moisture to nourish the Zang-Fu organs? Lung Metal generating Heat causes the clear and descending function to fail, Bladder Qi fails to transform, and the Spleen and Stomach lose their power of transportation and transformation. Earth deficiency makes Metal weaker, and Metal weakness makes Water more deficient. Water struggles to nourish the Liver, causing Wood to become dry; Water struggles to irrigate the Heart, causing Fire to flare up. Wood becoming strong insults Metal, and Fire winning overcomes the Lungs. How can Qi flourish under these conditions? Qi decline means it cannot control Essence; Essence depletion means it cannot retain Sweat. Sweating prevents strength generation; this is why the spine suffers soreness and pain, and why there is dietary lethargy and a desire to sleep. Treatment must first tonify the Lungs and preferably also tonify the Spleen and Stomach. Lung Qi cannot generate itself; tonifying the Spleen and Stomach allows Earth to generate Metal. The Spleen and Stomach are the mother of Lung Metal.
Prescribe Yifei Dan (Tonify Lungs Pill):
Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng, 3 qian), Bai Zhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, 3 qian), Dang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, 3 qian), Mai Dong (Radix Ophiopogonis Japonici, 5 qian), Bei Wu Wei Zi (Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis, 3 fen), Chai Hu (Radix Bupleuri, 5 fen), Jing Jie (Herba Schizonepetae, 5 fen), Shan Yao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae Oppositae, 3 qian), Qian Shi (Semen Nelumbinis, 3 qian). Decoct in water and take orally. After four doses, Spleen and Stomach Qi opens; after another four doses, coughing stops; after another four doses, soreness resolves; after another four doses, tidal fever and sweating cease. Take ten more doses; as Qi flourishes, all ailments recover.
One might doubt: "Injury to the Lungs benefits Qi, but I have never heard of injury to Qi benefiting the Lungs." Not knowing that tonifying the Lungs is actually benefiting Qi; Lung decline leads to Qi decline, Lung flourishing leads to Qi flourishing. If Qi declines, why not tonify the Lungs? If tonifying the Lungs, how can one abandon the Spleen and Stomach to seek tonification elsewhere?
This condition can also be treated with Zhuangqi Tang (Strengthen Qi Decoction).
Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng, 3 qian), Mai Dong (Radix Ophiopogonis Japonici, 1 liang), Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis, 3 fen), Bai He (Bulbus Lilii, 1 liang), Bei Mu (Bulbus Fritillariae Cirrhosae, 3 fen). Decoct in water and take orally.
After blood loss, if one does not know to rest and avoid sexual indulgence, internal Heat, vexation, and thirst result. Flowers appear in the eyes, fire is seen, ears ring like frogs and cicadas, mouth and tongue ulcerate, food tastes bland, nose feels dry, breathing is difficult, lethargy and desire to sleep occur, yet restlessness persists. People think this is the onset of Consumption (Lao Zhai), but who knows it is caused by Blood injury? The Liver stores Blood; losing blood means the Liver fails to store Blood. The cause is either great anger moving the Blood or great fatigue damaging the Blood. Although movement and damage differ, tonifying and nourishing Blood must be combined. Unfortunately, wine, sex, wealth, and anger are all mediums for moving Blood; ears, eyes, mouth, and nose are all apertures for damaging Blood. Those who nourish Blood lack formulas; those who tonify Blood lack herbs. Thus, those with blood loss often fail to recover; delaying and mistreating leads inevitably to death. If upon seeing blood loss, one immediately uses Liver-pacifying and hemostatic drugs, how could it reach the point of near-death and non-rescue? However, once blood loss becomes a chronic deficit, merely tonifying Blood is insufficient because Blood cannot be generated suddenly. Organs consuming Blood are damaged internally, and desires burning Blood are damaged externally; this is also a path to death. Tonifying Blood must involve tonifying Qi, and nourishing Blood must benefit Essence, allowing Yin and Yang to nourish each other above and below, so that Liver Blood in the Middle Jiao, whether damaged or not, can increase or stabilize.
Prescribe Huanzhong Tang (Moderate Middle Decoction):
Bai Shao (Radix Paeoniae Alba, 1 liang), Dang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, 1 liang), Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng, 1 liang), Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis, 1 qian), Shu Di Huang (Prepared Radix Rehmanniae, 1 liang), Shan Zhu Yu (Fructus Corni Officinalis, 5 qian), Mai Dong (Radix Ophiopogonis Japonici, 5 qian), San Qi Gen Mo (Powder of Radix Notoginseng, 3 qian), Jing Jie (Herba Schizonepetae, stir-fried black, 1 qian), Chao Hei Jiang Tan (Charred Ginger Rhizome, 5 fen). Decoct in water and take orally. One dose brings peaceful sleep; two doses stop vexation and thirst; ten doses reduce illness by half; twenty doses reduce it further; thirty doses bring full recovery.
This formula tonifies Qi, Blood, and Essence simultaneously. However, Qi-tonifying herbs are fewer than those tonifying Essence and Blood because blood-loss disease fundamentally involves Yin deficiency. I heavily tonify Yin and lightly tonify Yang, so Yang generates Yin without excessive hyperactivity, and Yin controls Yang without being too weak. Naturally, Qi moves within Blood to generate Blood, and Blood solidifies within Qi to store Blood. Would there still be leakage? Moreover, the formula contains Jing Jie as a guiding herb, and Jiang Tan and San Qi Gen for hemostasis; thus, its use is entirely appropriate.
This condition is also well-treated by Bayi Tang (Eight Substance Decoction).
Bai Shao (Radix Paeoniae Alba), Shan Yao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae Oppositae, each 5 qian), Dang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis), Shu Di Huang (Prepared Radix Rehmanniae), Mai Dong (Radix Ophiopogonis Japonici, each 1 liang), Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis, 5 fen), Dan Pi (Cortex Moutan), Sha Shen (Radix Glehniae, each 3 qian). Decoct in water and take orally.
Those who indulge in sexual activity without conservation become emaciated, with sallow complexion, weak legs, thin knees, shaking thighs, gathered skin, fallen hair, inability to bear labor, difficulty rising from bed, night sweats profusely. This is a consumption syndrome caused by Essence depletion. Those with sufficient Essence live long; none with deficient Essence live long. Yet, those with abundant Essence are rare worldwide; thus, the Kidney has tonification but no purgation. Whether sick or healthy depends on moderation. People greedily seek momentary pleasure, disregarding death. Even if semen loss does not lead to death, how can one bear to let them suffer without rescue? There is no way but to fill Essence. However, filling Essence is difficult. Excessive semen loss not only damages the Kidney but also the Spleen; Spleen damage leads to Stomach damage. The Stomach is the gatekeeper of the Kidney; if the Stomach is damaged, the gate closes. Even with Essence-tonifying drugs, how can they enter the Kidney Palace directly? Therefore, tonifying the Kidney requires tonifying the Stomach. Since the Stomach and Spleen are exterior-interior pairs, tonifying the Stomach includes tonifying the Spleen. Thus, Essence-filling drugs must treat all three meridians together.
Prescribe Kaiwei Tianjing Tang (Open Stomach and Fill Essence Decoction):
Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng, 3 qian), Bai Zhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, 5 qian), Shu Di Huang (Prepared Radix Rehmanniae, 1 liang), Mai Dong (Radix Ophiopogonis Japonici, 3 qian), Shan Zhu Yu (Fructus Corni Officinalis, 3 qian), Bei Wu Wei Zi (Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis, 1 qian), Ba Ji Tian (Radix Morindae Officinalis, 1 liang), Fu Ling (Poria, 3 qian), Rou Dou Kou (Arillus Myristicae, one piece). Decoct in water and take orally. Ten doses generate Spirit and restore taste; Stomach Qi opens greatly. Ten more doses reverse decline. Ten more doses resolve previous symptoms completely.
Although this is not a resurrection formula, it is truly a wonderful Essence-filling drug. Filling Essence leads to abundance; abundance ensures life. Thus, this is indeed a resurrection formula; people should use it attentively.
This condition is also excellently treated by Furuo Tang (Support Weakness Decoction).
Shu Di Huang (Prepared Radix Rehmanniae, 1 liang), Shi Hu (Caulis Dendrobii), Mai Dong (Radix Ophiopogonis Japonici, each 5 qian), Bei Wu Wei Zi (Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis, 1 qian), Ba Ji Tian (Radix Morindae Officinalis), Tu Si Zi (Semen Cuscutae, each 3 qian), Shan Zhu Yu (Fructus Corni Officinalis, 5 qian). Decoct in water and take orally.
Those who endure arduous travel and constant movement suffer tendon contraction and inability to extend, lying in bed groaning, unable to walk, body-wide pain, arm soreness and numbness. People think this is the onset of Flaccidity Syndrome (Wei Zheng), but who knows it is due to Tendon injury? Tendons belong to the Liver; Liver flourishing means tendons flourish, Liver declining means tendons decline. Injury to tendons is injury to the Liver; tonifying the Liver cannot be delayed. However, the reason for Liver fluctuation lies in the Kidney. Kidney Water generates Liver Wood; sufficient Kidney Water leads to vigorous Liver Qi, deficient Kidney Water leads to weak Liver Qi. Thus, declining tendons require tonifying the Liver, and declining Liver requires tonifying the Kidney. Although tonifying the Kidney benefits the Liver, the Liver also generates the Heart. I fear that tonifying the Kidney to generate the Liver leaves no time to nourish the tendons. One must also tonify Heart Qi deficiency, so the Liver need not generate the Heart. With Kidney nourishment, Liver Wood branches spread smoothly; how can tendons remain unmoistened?
Prescribe Yangjin Tang (Nourish Tendons Decoction):
Bai Shao (Radix Paeoniae Alba, 1 liang), Shu Di Huang (Prepared Radix Rehmanniae, 1 liang), Mai Dong (Radix Ophiopogonis Japonici, 1 liang), Chao Zao Ren (Semen Ziziphi Spinosae Praeparatum, 3 qian), Ba Ji Tian (Radix Morindae Officinalis, 3 qian). Decoct in water and take orally. Two doses relax tendons slightly; four doses relax them significantly; ten doses cure all pain, soreness, and numbness.
This formula treats the Heart, Liver, and Kidney meridians simultaneously. It can be used for diseases of any of these three meridians, not just for tendon injury; its utility depends on general application.
This condition is also effectively treated by Shujin Tang (Relax Tendons Decoction).
Bai Shao (Radix Paeoniae Alba), Shu Di Huang (Prepared Radix Rehmanniae, each 1 liang), Gan Ju (Flos Chrysanthemi Indici), Dan Pi (Cortex Moutan), Niu Xi (Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae), Qin Jiao (Radix Gentianae Macrophyllae, each 2 qian), Bai Zhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, 5 qian), Gou Qi (Fructus Lycii, 2 qian), Wei Rui (Rhizoma Polygonati Odorati, 5 qian). Decoct in water and take orally.
Those who stand for long periods experience leg soreness; standing further and engaging in intercourse renders legs powerless. Over time, the face becomes sallow, body thins, bad breath and limb heat occur, night sweats and bone-steaming fever arise. People think this is Consumption Disease (Zhai Bing), but who knows it originates from Bone injury? Bones rely on Marrow for firmness; bones without Marrow are empty, lacking support to stand. However, bone injury also consumes Marrow. Standing and having intercourse injures both Bone and Marrow; how can one not fall ill? Injuring Marrow in bones is injuring Essence in the Kidneys. Empty Marrow means Kidney Water dries first. Dry Kidneys cannot transform Marrow, leaving bones empty. Thus, to tonify Marrow in bones, one must first tonify Essence in Kidneys.
Prescribe Chongsui Dan (Fill Marrow Pill):
Shu Di Huang (Prepared Radix Rehmanniae, 2 liang), Shan Zhu Yu (Fructus Corni Officinalis, 1 liang), Jin Cha Shi Hu (Caulis Dendrobii Nobile, 5 qian), Di Gu Pi (Cortex Lycii, 3 qian), Sha Shen (Radix Glehniae, 5 qian), Niu Xi (Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae, 3 qian), Wu Wei Zi (Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis, 1 qian), Fu Ling (Poria, 3 qian). Decoct in water and take orally.
This formula fills True Yin, ensuring sufficient Kidney Water, full Essence, filled Marrow, and strong bones. If cold drugs are used to damage the Stomach, or hot drugs to aid Yang, fluids will be boiled dry, dryness increasing dryness, inevitably becoming incurable Consumption.
This condition is also effectively treated by Guilv Yin (Tortoise and Deer Drink).
Shu Di Huang (Prepared Radix Rehmanniae, 2 liang), Shan Zhu Yu (Fructus Corni Officinalis, 1 liang), Jin Cha Shi Hu (Caulis Dendrobii Nobile), Niu Xi (Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae), Hu Gu (Os Tigris), Gui Gao (Colla Testudinis), Du Zhong (Cortex Eucommiae Ulmoidis, each 3 qian), Shan Yao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae Oppositae), Lu Jiao Jiao (Colla Cornus Cervi), Tu Si Zi (Semen Cuscutae), Bai Zhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, each 5 qian). Decoct in water and take orally.
Those who indulge excessively in pleasure, laughing uncontrollably, eventually suffer dry saliva and parched fluids, mouth and tongue ulcers, thirst and desire to drink. Over time, appearance becomes withered, sweat appears on the heart region. People think this is Yin deficiency with Fire hyperactivity, but who knows it is Yang flourishing with Fire blazing? The Heart belongs to Yang Fire, the Kidney to Yin Water. Yin Water meets Yang Fire and is scorched; Yang Fire must be irrigated by Yin Water. Without interaction between Heart Fire and Kidney Water, the flaming nature cannot be stopped. Only when the Heart lacks fluid does it become dry. Why does sweat specifically appear on the heart region? Joy governs the Heart, but extreme joy injures the Heart. Extreme joy opens Heart Qi widely; fluids do not ascend to lips and mouth but overflow onto the skin and flesh of the heart region. Thus, Kidney fluid reaching the Heart transforms into sweat. How can it ascend to the Lianquan acupoint to moisten the mouth and tongue? Clearly, this is Heart Qi injury, blocking the flow. Therefore, treatment need not tonify the source of Kidney Water; instead, tonify the deficiency of Heart Qi, and the Lianquan acupoint will open naturally.
Prescribe Tongquan Yin (Unblock Spring Drink):
Chao Zao Ren (Semen Ziziphi Spinosae Praeparatum, 1 liang), Mai Dong (Radix Ophiopogonis Japonici, 1 liang), Tian Men Dong (Radix Asparagi, 3 qian), Bei Wu Wei Zi (Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis, 1 qian), Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng, 3 qian), Dan Shen (Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae, 3 qian), Yuan Zhi (Radix Polygalae, 1 qian), Dang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, 5 qian), Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis, 1 qian), Bai Zi Ren (Semen Platycladi, 3 qian). Decoct in water and take orally. One dose moistens the mouth; two doses stop heart-region sweating; three doses cure all symptoms.
This formula tonifies Heart Qi injury and generates fluids and liquids; why bother tonifying the Kidney to open the source?
This condition is also well-treated by Xuanshen Lianzao Yin (Scrophularia, Lotus Plumule, and Jujube Drink).
Xuan Shen (Radix Scrophulariae, 3 liang), Dan Pi (Cortex Moutan), Chao Zao Ren (Semen Ziziphi Spinosae Praeparatum, each 1 liang), Dan Shen (Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae, 5 qian), Bai Zi Ren (Semen Platycladi), Lian Zi Xin (Plumula Nelumbinis, each 3 qian). Decoct in water and take orally.
Those who overwork their minds, worrying all night, suffer vague spirit, languid speech, feeling of loss, heavy waist and legs, and weary limbs. People think this is Timidity Syndrome, but who knows it is mental labor injuring Spirit? The Heart houses Spirit; Spirit remains calm in the Heart due to flourishing Heart Blood. Endless worry labors the Heart. Heart labor gradually consumes Blood, leaving Spirit without nourishment, appearing vague and indeterminate. Spirit prefers stillness over movement; Spirit movement agitates the Heart further. Heart agitation depletes Blood more, and Blood depletion agitates Spirit more. Despite Kidney Water support, Blood cannot nourish; despite Liver Wood support, Fluids cannot enter. The weak ruler cannot stand alone; despite good ministers, the four limbs cannot be strong. This is why waist, legs, and limbs feel heavy and weary. Treatment must urgently save the Heart, and saving the Heart focuses on calming Spirit.
Prescribe Ding Shen Tang (Settle Spirit Decoction):
Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng, 1 liang), Fu Ling (Poria, 5 qian), Bai Zhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, 5 qian), Dan Shen (Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae, 5 qian), Yuan Zhi (Radix Polygalae, 1 qian), Sheng Zao Ren (Semen Ziziphi Spinosae, 5 qian), Zhu Sha Mo (Cinnabar Powder, 1 qian), Bai Zi Ren (Semen Platycladi, 1 qian), Ba Ji Tian (Radix Morindae Officinalis, 3 qian), Huang Qi (Radix Astragali Membranacei, 1 liang), Dang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, 5 qian), Shan Yao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae Oppositae, 3 qian), Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis, 1 qian), Bai Jie Zi (Semen Sinapis Albæ, 2 qian). Decoct in water and take orally. One dose calms the Heart; two doses settle the Spirit; ten doses strengthen the body.
This formula treats the Heart, Spleen, Stomach, Lung, and Liver meridians simultaneously. The Heart is a solitary ruler; without protection from the Pericardium, Spirit might flee. Now, with simultaneous treatment by Spleen, Stomach, Lung, and Liver, support is powerful, Heart Blood generates easily, and Heart Spirit flourishes naturally.
This condition can also be treated with Longchi Anshen Dan (Dragon Tooth Calming Spirit Pill).
Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng), Mai Dong (Radix Ophiopogonis Japonici, each 1 liang), Huang Lian (Rhizoma Coptidis, 2 qian), Bai Zi Ren (Semen Platycladi, 3 qian), Long Chi (Dens Draconis calcined, quenched in vinegar, powdered, 1 qian), Chao Zao Ren (Semen Ziziphi Spinosae Praeparatum, 3 qian), Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis, 5 fen), Bei Wu Wei Zi (Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis, 1 qian). Decoct in water and take orally.
Those who labor mentally all day, managing and worrying, cause Heart Fire to boil. Initially, dreams are restless; later, palpitations and forgetfulness occur, physical and spiritual emaciation ensue, Blood fails to luster the complexion. People think this is Heart Qi weakness, but who knows it is Heart Blood deficiency? The Heart prefers stillness over movement; stillness prevents Fire from flaring, and Kidney Water naturally comes to assist. Movement prevents Heart-Kidney interaction. Kidney Water is not born without Fire, but warm Fire generates Water easily, while fierce Fire exhausts Water. Mental overwork causes Fire movement, which is fierce Fire, not warm Fire. The Kidney avoids it in vain; how dare it ascend to suffer Fire's coercion? Water failing to ascend makes the Heart drier, leading to self-burning and forming deficiency syndromes. Among five-Zang injuries, injury to the Heart leads to death. Now, injury does not come from the five Zangs, but the Heart injures itself first, seemingly an untreatable condition. However, the Heart Palace seeks tranquility from other Zang-Fu organs. If other organs are undamaged, there is vitality. Tonifying Qi of other organs naturally restores deficiency and halts injury. Treatment focuses on tonifying Qi of the Spleen, Kidney, Lung, and Liver.
Prescribe Weizhu Shengqi Tang (Guard Master Generating Qi Decoction):
Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng, 3 qian), Bai Zhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, 5 qian), Mai Dong (Radix Ophiopogonis Japonici, 5 qian), Bei Wu Wei Zi (Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis, 5 fen), Bai Shao (Radix Paeoniae Alba, 1 liang), Bai Jie Zi (Semen Sinapis Albæ, 2 qian), Chao Zao Ren (Semen Ziziphi Spinosae Praeparatum, 3 qian), Xuan Shen (Radix Scrophulariae, 1 liang). Decoct in water and take orally. Two doses generate Heart Blood and strengthen Heart Qi.
This formula tonifies all five Zangs. However, it tonifies all five while uniquely focusing on the Heart Palace, which is remarkable. If one only tonifies the Heart without others, or tonifies only one or two Zangs without comprehensive tonification, there is risk of imbalance. This is not the proper method for tonifying Heart injury and deficiency.
This condition can also be treated with Yixin Dan (Benefit Heart Pill).
Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng), Dang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, each 5 qian), Mai Dong (Radix Ophiopogonis Japonici), Chao Zao Ren (Semen Ziziphi Spinosae Praeparatum, each 1 liang), Tian Hua Fen (Radix Trichosanthis), Bei Wu Wei Zi (Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis), Yuan Zhi (Radix Polygalae), Shen Qu (Massa Medicata Fermentata), Zhu Sha (Cinnabar, each 1 liang), Shi Chang Pu (Rhizoma Acori Tatarinowii, 5 fen), Tu Si Zi (Semen Cuscutae, 3 qian). Decoct in water and take orally.
Those overly fond of lust, engaging in frequent intercourse to seek pleasure, fight bravely but delay ejaculation. Gradually, erections become soft, leakage occurs easily. Then bones soften, tendons go numb, diet decreases, and aversion to cold arises. People think this is Qi deficiency, but who knows it is dual injury of Water and Fire in the Kidneys? Minister Fire resides in the Mingmen Gate within the Kidneys; it is Fire within Water. Kidney Water and Fire cannot be separated. Frequent semen loss seems to damage Water but not Fire, but Fire exists in Water; when Water goes, Fire goes too. When Fire moves extremely, Water leaks; when Water leaks extremely, Fire lacks nourishment, making Fire move and leak more easily. Water and Fire are both injured; how can the Kidney remain undamaged? Treatment must heavily tonify Kidney Water, not Kidney Fire. Although Water is born from Fire, when Water is depleted, suddenly tonifying Fire means Water cannot control it, and Fire flares upward, causing harm. Only by heavily tonifying Water can Water control Fire, and Fire will generate itself. Prescribe Liuwei Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill) in large doses for two months, then add Fu Zi (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata) and Rou Gui (Cortex Cinnamomi), to cultivate True Fire in Mingmen. Thus, Water and Fire achieve mutual balance, receiving benefits of both Yin and Yang tonification. People regard Babai Wan (Eight-Ingredient Pill) as a Yang-tonifying drug, but it still tonifies Fire within Water, making it a Yang-tonifying drug that also tonifies Yin. Thus, tonifying Fire avoids hyperactivity disaster, and tonifying Water avoids cold danger.
This condition is also miraculously treated by Tusidiyu Tang (Cuscuta and Cornus Decoction).
Shu Di Huang (Prepared Radix Rehmanniae, 1 liang), Shan Zhu Yu (Fructus Corni Officinalis, 5 qian), Tu Si Zi (Semen Cuscutae, 1 liang), Ba Ji Tian (Radix Morindae Officinalis, 5 qian). Decoct in water and take orally.
