Wind-induced pruritus arises from deficiency of the exterior and insufficiency of Wei Qi (Defensive Qi), allowing Wind pathogen to take advantage and invade. This leads to stagnation in the blood vessels, with internal and external forces stirring up, transforming into heat; excessive heat causes itching. If not cured for a long time, the pathogenic factor spreads diffusely, and scratching results in sores.
Fangfeng Tang Decoction for Washing:
Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Kushen (Sophorae Flavescentis Radix), Yimucao (Leonuri Herba) (each 3 liang); Baijili (Tribuli Fructus) (5 liang, stir-fried); Jingjie Sui (Schizonepetae Spica), Manjingzi (Viticis Fructus), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) (each 3 liang). Use one dou of water, decoct until eight sheng remain. Wash the affected area while hot.
Songye Jiu Formula:
Songye (Pinus Massoniana Needle) 1 jin, wine 1 dou. Boil to obtain three sheng. Take day and night until sweating occurs.
Huma San Powder:
Indicated for wind-toxin of the Spleen and Lung attacking the skin, causing pruritus, sores on hands and feet, and widespread red-black macules on the body.

The origins of Dampness vary. There is Heavenly Dampness, such as fog, dew, and rain; Earthly Dampness, such as mud and cement; Dietary Dampness, such as alcohol, milk, and cheese; Sweat Dampness, as sweat itself is damp; and Human Qi Dampness, which is transformed by Taiyin Spleen-Damp Earth.
Heavenly Dampness originates from Qi, thus first affecting the Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) Qi at the exterior. Earthly Dampness originates from Form, thus first damaging the skin, flesh, sinews, bones, blood, and vessels. Dietary Dampness injures the Spleen and Stomach. Sweat Dampness is only felt externally. Human Qi Dampness belongs to Taiyin transformation and moves internally.
For Heavenly Dampness, use diaphoresis (sweating method). For Earthly Dampness, use渗利 (draining/diuretic method). For Dietary Dampness, if in the Upper Jiao, use emesis; if in the Middle Jiao, use resolution/elimination; if in the Lower Jiao, guide and exhaust it. For Sweat Dampness, also use diaphoresis. For Human Qi Dampness, belonging to Taiyin transformation, it exists at the intersection of Qi. Earth combines the four Qi (Cold, Heat, Warm, Cool) and possesses ascending, descending, floating, and sinking properties. Treatment should distinguish between upper/middle/lower and interior/exterior to harmonize the four Qi, as Dampness permeates everywhere.
Generally, Dampness in the Upper Jiao causes heavy head, chest fullness, and vomiting; at the Exterior causes heavy body and edema; in the Lower Jiao causes swelling of the calves and dorsum of feet; in the Middle Jiao causes abdominal distension, fullness, and obstruction. Medications used must also combine Cold, Heat, Damp, and Cool properties as assistants and guides.
Disease caused by Dampness can enter from the exterior or arise from within; one must examine the local pathological basis. In the Southeast, where land is low and there is much rainy ground dampness, exogenous Dampness often starts from below, leading to many cases of heavy legs and Hong Kong foot (podagra/tinea pedis); treatment should involve diaphoresis and dispersal, and for chronic cases, dredging and draining. In the Northwest, where land is high, people eat cold, raw, and damp noodles, or after drinking wine, cold Qi becomes constrained, preventing Dampness from dispersing, leading to abdominal pain and distension, severe middle-fullness and ascites, or generalized edema like mud that indents upon pressure; these all arise from within. Examine the amount of Yuan Qi (Primary Qi), promote urination and defecation, and address the root within. However, factors inside and outside regions interact, differing only in degree. One must treat according to symptoms and not adhere rigidly to one method.
When Dampness combines with Wind-Cold Qi, it forms Bi Syndrome (Obstruction Syndrome). If Cold predominates, it causes pain and edema, requiring Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), and Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus) to dispel it. If Wind predominates, it causes severe restlessness and wandering pain, requiring Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Yiyiren (Coicis Semen), and Wutou (Aconiti Radix) to scatter it. If Dampness predominates, it causes hardness and fullness, and Qi closure, requiring Gansui (Kansui Radix), Tinglizi (Descurainiae Semen et Lepidii Semen), Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), and Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) to drain it.
