Jue syndrome. Pain extends along both sides of the spine to the vertex, accompanied by a heavy sensation in the head, blurred vision (KT KT refers to dim or unclear vision), and stiffness and rigidity of the waist and spine. Bleed the blood collaterals of the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Channel.
Jue syndrome. Swelling of the chest and face, everted and swollen lips (Luo Luo refers to the appearance of swelling), sudden difficulty in speaking, progressing to inability to speak in severe cases. Treat the Foot-Yangming Stomach Channel. (Acupoints such as Chongyang [ST42] and Xiangu [ST43] may be needled.)
Jue syndrome. Qi rushes to the throat causing inability to speak, cold hands and feet, and difficult defecation. Treat the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Channel. (Yongquan [KI1] and Jiaoxin [KI8] may be needled.)
Jue syndrome with rumbling abdomen (caused by cold qi stagnating in the Spleen) and excessive internal cold. The abdomen produces sounds like grain and water mixing (Gu Gu refers to the sound of undigested food and water), loose stools, and difficult urination. Treat the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Channel. (Dadu [SP2], Taibai [SP3], Sanyinjiao [SP6], Yinlingquan [SP9], Fushhe [SP13] may be needled.)
Wei-Jue syndrome causing constriction and binding of the four extremities. Quickly release the bindings, and needle twice daily (acupoints on the four limbs should be needled, twice a day). For numbness (Bu Ren), recovery is expected within ten days; do not stop treatment until the disease is cured. (This section was originally attached after the section on hiccups involving nasal stimulation with grass, but is now listed separately according to *Lei Jing*.)
Dryness in the pharynx, heat in the mouth feeling like sticky glue. Treat the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Channel. (Needle Fuliu [KI7]; nourishing Kidney Water will subdue Fire.)
Pain in the knee joint. Treat Dubi [ST35]. Use a Yuanli Needle (Round-Sharp Needle). Needle during attacks and at intervals (Jian means not just once).
Bi syndrome of the throat causing inability to speak. Treat the Foot-Yangming Stomach Channel. (In severe cases, reduce lower points: Zusanli [ST36], Xiaolian [ST34], Fenglong [ST40], Neiting [ST44], Lidui [ST45].) If speech is possible, treat the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Channel. (In mild cases, only upper points are needed: Hegu [LI4], Yangxi [LI5], Pianli [LI6], Wenliu [LI7], Futu [LI18], Heliao [LI17], etc.)
Malaria without thirst, occurring every other day. Treat the Foot-Yangming Stomach Channel. (Xiangu [ST43], Neiting [ST44], Lidui [ST45] may be needled. ○ *Ci Nie Lun* states: needle the Foot-Taiyang channel.)
Thirst with daily occurrence. Treat the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Channel. (Shangyang [LI1], Sanjian [LI3], Hegu [LI4], Yangxi [LI5], Daying [ST5] may be needled.)
Toothache without aversion to cold drinks. Treat the Foot-Yangming Stomach Channel. (Neiting [ST44], Lidui [ST45].) Aversion to cold drinks. Treat the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Channel. (Shangyang [LI1], Sanjian [LI3], Hegu [LI4], Pianli [LI6].)
Deafness without pain. Treat the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Channel. (Kerenren [GB7], i.e., Shangguan.) Deafness with pain. Treat the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Channel. (Pianli [LI6].)
Epistaxis (Nu) that does not stop, with profuse bleeding. Treat the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Channel. (Weizhong [BL40].) Blood stasis (Yu Xue). Treat the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Channel. (Wangu [SI4].) If it does not stop, needle below Wangu. (Tongli [HT5], Shenmen [HT7] of the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Channel.) If it still does not stop, bleed from the popliteal crease. (This is Weizhong. Epistaxis is called Nu. Purple-black coagulated blood is called Yu. Profuse flowing blood is called Xue. The following text distinguishes Yu as accumulated non-flowing blood.)
Internal heat with panting. Treat the blood collaterals of the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Channel. (Needle Fuliu [KI7], and also the Foot-Taiyang channel.)
Irritability and anorexia, with decreasing volume of speech. Treat the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Channel. (Gongsun [SP4] is suitable.)
Anger with excessive talking. Needle the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Channel. (Fuliu [KI7]; nourish Water to control Fire. ○ Another version suggests needling the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Channel.)
Jaw pain. Needle the artery at Quzhou of the Foot-Yangming Stomach Channel. (Jiache [ST6].) Stop upon seeing blood. If it does not stop, press the Renying [ST9] point on the meridian; pain stops immediately. (Renying should be superficially needled. ○ For pain on the side of the neck, needle Shaoyang [SI1] and Tianchuang [SI16] of the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Channel.)
Fullness and distension in the lower abdomen, extending upward to the stomach and heart, with alternating chills and fever, and difficult urination. Treat the Foot-Jueyin Liver Channel. (Taichong [LR3].)
Abdominal fullness with difficult defecation, abdominal distension extending upward to the chest and throat, with rapid and labored breathing (He He Ran). Treat the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Channel. (Taixi [KI3].)
Abdominal fullness with indigestion, rumbling abdomen, and inability to defecate. Treat the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Channel. (Taibai [SP3].)
Heart pain radiating to the waist and spine, with urge to vomit (Kidney pathogen reversing upward). Treat the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Channel. (Taixi [KI3].)
Heart pain with abdominal distension and a涩 (Se) sensation (stagnant feeling), with difficult defecation. Treat the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Channel. (Taibai [SP3].)
Heart pain radiating to the back, with dyspnea. Needle the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Channel. If it does not stop, treat the Hand-Sanjiao Triple Energizer Channel. (The Foot-Shaoyin meridian passes through the spine, hence pain radiates to the back; Dazhong [KI4] should be needled. The Hand-Sanjiao meridian spreads over the Shanzhong area, hence dyspnea; Zhigou [TE6] should be needled.)
Heart pain radiating to lower abdominal fullness, with wandering pain location, and difficult urination/defecation. Needle the Foot-Jueyin Liver Channel. (Taichong [LR3].)
Heart pain with shortness of breath and insufficient respiration. Needle the Hand-Taiyin Lung Channel. (Chize [LU5], Taiyuan [LU9].)
Heart pain. Needle at the ninth vertebral segment. After pressing and needling, press again; pain stops immediately. If it does not stop, search above and below; upon finding the point, pain stops immediately. (This generally describes the method for needling heart pain. The ninth segment refers to Jinsuo [GV9] of the Du Meridian. Press first, then needle, then press again; pain should cease. If not, search the Hand meridians above and Foot meridians below to find the cause and needle accordingly.)
Rebellious Qi moving upward. Needle depressed areas in the chest. (Yingchuang [ST16]) and arteries in the lower chest. (Shanzhong [CV17].)
Abdominal pain. Needle the arteries on the left and right of the umbilicus. After needling, press; pain stops immediately. (e.g., Tianshu [ST25] of the Foot-Yangming channel, Huangshu [KI15] of the Foot-Shaoyin channel both treat abdominal pain.) If it does not stop, needle Qichuang [ST30] (also known as Qichong). After needling, press; pain stops immediately.
Hiccups (Yue). Stimulate the nose with grass to induce sneezing; hiccups stop after sneezing. (Sneezing allows Qi to flow freely.) Hold breath and quickly guide the Qi downward to disperse it, preventing upward rebellion. (Close mouth and nose, hold breath, guide Qi downward to disperse it, do not let it rebel upward.) Startle greatly; this can also cure it. (Meaning startling the patient with another matter can also cure it. ○ Hiccups, old editions have "Sui Ma Zhu", "Sui" is suspected to be a typo for "Yue", now corrected to "Yue" according to *Lei Jing*.)
