[Figure: Extreme Pain with Aversion to Cold]
Q: What is the reason for people suffering from eye pain accompanied by aversion to cold?
A: This is due to deficient Qi and abundant Blood. The Classics state: "Blood provides nourishment, Qi provides defense." The Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian governs Blood; Blood belongs to Yin, while Qi belongs to Yang. Currently, Qi is deficient and Blood is vigorous, leading to Yang's inability to overcome Yin. Therefore, there is extreme pain and aversion to cold. It is appropriate to administer Fuzi Zhuling Tang (Aconite and Polyporus Decoction) or Baizhu Tang (Atractylodes Macrocephala Decoction).

Q: What is the reason for people suffering from eye pain accompanied by body heat?
A: Wei Qi (Defensive Qi) belongs to Yang and causes fever; Ying Qi (Nutritive Qi) belongs to Yin and causes coldness. Ying and Wei constitute the way of Yin and Yang. In the upper part, they belong to the Heart and Lung; in the lower part, they belong to the Liver and Kidney. Currently, Qi is vigorous and Blood is deficient, meaning there is more Yang and less Yin. Thus, there is pain and body heat, indicating that Heat Evil has returned to the Heart. It is appropriate to administer Xixin San (Heart-Cleansing Powder) or Jieming San (Clarifying Vision Powder).

[Figure: Stasis Blood in Eyelids]
Q: What is the reason for people suffering from stasis blood stagnating in the eyelids?
A: This is due to stagnation of Liver Qi and retention of Wind-Dampness in the Spleen and Stomach. Alternatively, it may arise from rising too early after suffering from Tianxing Chiyan (Epidemic Red Eye) without proper recuperation, causing blood to coagulate between the eyelids, named Stasis Blood. Treatment requires turning up the upper and lower eyelids to wash away the stasis blood completely. It is appropriate to administer Tui Chi San (Red-Removing Powder) or Danggui San (Angelica Decoction).
