*Wangbuliuxing* (Vaccariae Semen): Bitter and sweet in flavor, neutral in nature, non-toxic. Enters the Heart and Liver meridians. It primarily treats traumatic injuries with bleeding, carbuncles, sores, toxic ulcers, restlessness, epistaxis, and difficult labor. It extracts bamboo or wood splinters embedded deeply into the flesh, treats wind-toxin, and unblocks blood vessels. It should be steamed with wine and then baked before use.
Note: *Wangbuliuxing* specializes in treating blood disorders. Since the Heart governs blood and the Liver stores blood, it enters both meridians. Conditions such as carbuncles and sores arise from disharmony of the blood. The Classics state: "When Ying Qi does not follow its proper course and rebels within the muscle tissue, carbuncles and swellings are generated." This herb harmonizes the blood, thus it is suitable for treating these conditions. Furthermore, regarding the treatment of wind-toxin, it follows the principle that "to treat wind, one must first treat the blood"; when the blood flows properly, wind dissipates naturally.
*Yinyanghuo* (Epimedii Folium): Pungent in flavor, warm in nature, non-toxic. Enters the Kidney meridian. It primarily treats impotence (*Jue Yang*), infertility due to depletion of Yin essence (*Jue Yin*), pain within the penis, and difficulty in urination. It boosts Qi and strength, and strengthens tendons and bones. Long-term consumption by men may lead to infertility. For every jin (approx. 500g) of the herb, remove the flowers and finely chop it. Mix with four liang (approx. 200g) of sheep fat, and stir-fry until the fat is completely absorbed. Use *Dioscoreae Rhizoma* (Shanyao) and *Ganoderma Sinense* (Zizhi) as guiding herbs. It acts well with wine. Also known as *Xianlingpi*.
Note: *Xianlingpi* enters the Kidney meridian and treats impotence and other conditions, clearly demonstrating its tonifying properties. However, it subsequently states that long-term use leads to infertility. Is this not confusing? One must understand that this agent specifically assists Ministerial Fire (*Xiang Huo*), causing incessant sexual desire. Excessive desire depletes Essence and Qi. The Classics state: "If one engages in strenuous sexual activity, Kidney Qi will be injured, and the high bones (spine) will deteriorate." Moreover, when Ministerial Fire takes advantage of the decline of Kidney Water, it carries Spleen Earth to overcome Kidney Water. If survival itself cannot be guaranteed, how can reproduction be achieved?
Lei Gong stated: "Whenever using *Xianlingpi*, one must first use clippers to remove all leaves and branches, then finely chop it. Mix it with sheep fat, stir-fry it, and then use it."
*Bajitian* (Morindae Officinalis Radix): Pungent and sweet in flavor, slightly warm in nature, non-toxic. Enters the Spleen and Kidney meridians. It primarily assists the Kidneys in replenishing Essence, and dispels all types of Wind pathogenic factors and evil Qi. It should be soaked in wine before use. Use *Rubiae Fructus* (Fupenzi) as a guiding herb. It is incompatible with *Polyporus Umbellatus* (Leiwuan) and *Salvia Miltiorrhiza* (Danshen).
Note: The warming property of *Bajitian* is originally dedicated to tonifying the Kidneys. Since the Lung is the mother of the Kidney (Metal generates Water), and its flavor is pungent, it also enters the Lung meridian to treat Wind. It should be avoided by those whose Mingmen Fire is hyperactive, leading to seminal emission.
Lei Gong stated: "Whenever using *Bajitian*, first soak it in *Lycii Fructus* (Gouqizi) decoction overnight. When it becomes slightly soft, drain it. Then soak it in wine for one shichen (two hours), drain it again, and simmer it together with Chrysanthemum flowers until it turns scorched yellow before use."
