按语:白芥子味辛适宜于肺,性温适宜于胃,所以都归入这两经。气虚以及肺胃中有火热者,都应禁止食用。
【韭菜】

[White Mustard Seed (Bai Jie Zi)]
Taste: Acrid. Nature: Warm. Toxicity: Non-toxic. Meridian Tropism: Lung and Stomach meridians. Main actions: Directs Qi downward, treats vomiting due to stomach reversal (Fan Wei), eliminates phlegm-qi masses associated with malaria, wards off evil spirits and pathogenic influences (Zhu Qi), removes phlegm-fluids located between the skin and membranes; when ground with vinegar, it can be applied externally to treat "She Gong" toxicity (a traditional term for a skin disease caused by toxic insects in water); its stems and leaves can dispel cold qi and stabilize the five Zang organs.
Commentary: The acrid taste of White Mustard Seed benefits the Lung, and its warm nature benefits the Stomach; therefore, it enters both meridians. It is contraindicated for those with Qi deficiency or heat in the Lung and Stomach.
[Chinese Chives / Jiucai]
Taste: Acrid. Nature: Warm. Toxicity: Non-toxic. Meridian Tropism: Lung, Spleen, and Kidney meridians. Main actions: Directs Qi downward and harmonizes the middle, tonifies the Kidney and assists Yang, benefits the waist and knees, harmonizes the Zang and Fu organs, eliminates cold stagnation and chronic masses in the chest and abdomen, stops leukorrhea and spermatorrhea. The root, when crushed for juice, is highly effective in resolving blood stasis below the diaphragm. The seeds are superior to the roots and leaves. Contraindicated with sugar, honey, and beef.
Commentary: Zhu Danxi stated: Chinese Chives belong to Metal but contain Earth and Water, making them suitable for entering the Lung, Spleen, and Kidney meridians to treat disorders of these three organs. However, excessive consumption causes mental confusion and blurred vision.
[Garlic / Dasuan]
Taste: Acrid. Nature: Very Warm. Toxicity: Slightly toxic. Meridian Tropism: Spleen and Stomach meridians. Main actions: Warms the middle and promotes digestion, stops spasms associated with cholera-like syndrome (Huo Luan), eliminates vomiting, diarrhea, and cold pain in the epigastrium, treats epidemics, miasma, gu poison, carbuncles and sores, and pathogenic obstruction and toxic vapors.
Commentary: Garlic is acrid and warm, thus entering the Spleen and Stomach to regulate various conditions. Zhu Danxi said: Its hot nature pleases the chest and diaphragm, so people enjoy eating it. However, excessive use damages the Spleen and Lungs, harms the Liver, causes blindness, generates phlegm and cough, leads to sallow complexion, and its meat-dissolving benefit is insufficient to outweigh its harm. Those interested in health preservation should be vigilant.
[Coriander / Huxu]
Taste: Acrid. Nature: Warm. Toxicity: Slightly toxic. Meridian Tropism: Lung and Spleen meridians. Main actions: Promotes the flow of Qi in the lower abdomen, clears heat in the four limbs, stops headaches, aids digestion of grains and food, disperses sand-rash (Sha Zhen), and helps uniform eruption of smallpox/variolous lesions. Oil extracted from boiling the seeds can be applied to treat tinea capitis (bald ringworm). Contraindicated with Xie Hao (Artemisia selengensis), as concurrent consumption may cause death through excessive sweating.
Commentary: Coriander is acrid, which benefits the Lung; its warm nature pleases the Spleen, hence it enters both meridians. Since the Lung governs skin and hair, and the Spleen governs muscles, it regulates disorders such as Sha and pox. Excessive consumption damages spirit, triggers chronic diseases, and causes forgetfulness. Patients with podagra (Hong Kong foot) and bromhidrosis (fox odor) will find their symptoms worsen.

Crushed with roots, it treats snake bites and earthworm injuries. Averse to Honey, Song Cai (Chinese Cabbage), and Chang Shan (Dichroa Root); concurrent consumption is fatal.
Commentary: Skin pores and interstices are governed by the Lung; wind excess and water flourishing are disorders of the Liver. When pathogens transmit inward, they become diseases of the Stomach. Scallion White specializes in dispersion, and...
