Shu Biao Fa (Method of Dispersing the Exterior): When infants and children have fever, regardless of whether it is caused by Wind-Cold, food stagnation, or epidemic measles/varicella, take a handful of scallions, pound them into a paste to extract the juice, add a small amount of sesame oil, and mix well. Dip fingers in the scallion oil and rub/massage the child's chest, crown, and back. Rub each area more than ten times. After finishing, wrap the child in thick clothing, cover the head, and induce a slight sweat; however, do not allow profuse sweating. This method effectively opens the Cou Li (pores and interstitial spaces), unblocks the meridians, expels pathogenic factors outward, prevents them from lingering in the Ying and Wei levels, and does not damage healthy Qi. It is indeed an excellent method.
Qing Li Fa (Method of Clearing the Interior): If an infant or child has had a fever for two or three days, the pathogen has entered the interior, or milk/food stagnation has formed internal stagnant heat. Symptoms include five-center heat (heat sensation in both palms, both soles, and the chest), restlessness during sleep, thirst with frequent crying, chest fullness and rapid breathing, red face and dry cracked lips, and constipation or difficulty urinating. This indicates internal heat. Take one egg white, place it in a bowl, add sesame oil equal in volume to the egg white, add one qian of fine realgar powder, and mix well. Take a clump of women's hair, dip it in the egg white mixture, and pat the child's stomach region (epigastrium). In cold weather, warm it over fire; do not use cold. Pat from the chest down to the umbilicus for about half an hour. Leave the hair on the epigastrium and tie it with cloth. Remove after the time it takes for one incense stick to burn. All kinds of heat syndromes can be resolved. Egg white nourishes Yin and clears heat, while sesame oil and realgar draw out toxins and cool the muscles. Use this if the body has heat. If there is no body heat but only crying, irritability, and mental unrest, omit the egg white and use only sesame oil, realgar, and loose hair for patting, leaving it on the epigastrium. The child will immediately sleep peacefully; this has been tested repeatedly with success.
Jie Fan Fa (Method of Resolving Irritability): For cases of excess heat in infants and children, or severe measles toxicity with intense heat, symptoms include red face, thirst, five-center heat, irritable crying, burning body heat, rapid upper breath, flailing limbs, where medication cannot be administered in time. Take one liang of talcum powder (mainly talc), dilute slightly with egg white, and apply to the child's epigastrium and palms. Grind ten or more pieces of brewing qu (fermented starter) into a paste, mix with hot wine to form two cakes, and apply to the soles of the feet. Tie with cloth. Soon, heat disperses to the four limbs, the heart feels cool, and crying ceases. Alternatively, mixing mung bean powder with egg white and applying it to the soles is also effective.
Kai Bi Fa (Method of Opening Obstruction): For infants and children suffering from wind-phlegm obstruction, leading to coma and unresponsiveness, inability to take medicine, or even insensitivity to moxibustion pain. This is due to phlegm blocking the large collaterals of the Spleen, cutting off the pathways for the ascending and descending of Yin and Yang. This is originally not a fatal condition. Take fresh Acorus tatarinowii Rhizome, fresh Artemisia argyi Leaf, fresh Zingiber officinale Rhizome, and scallions, one handful of each. Pound into a paste. Decoct with sesame oil and good vinegar. Stir-fry the four ingredients until hot, wrap in cloth, and press/warm along the head, back, chest, and limbs from top to bottom. The phlegm will clear, and the patient will awaken. This formula is effective not only for infants and children but for all obstruction syndromes.
Yin Tan Fa (Method of Guiding Phlegm Downward): For infants and children with phlegm cough, rapid upper breath, qi rising without descending, and a sawing sound in the throat, it is necessary to guide the phlegm downward. Take one liang of alum, grind into powder, cover with a little wheat flour (rice flour is also acceptable). Upon contact with vinegar, it turns into water (flour is added for viscosity). Mix with good vinegar to form two small cakes.
Tong Mai Fa (Method of Unblocking Meridians): For infants and children suddenly experiencing cold extremities, caused by exterior pathogens closing the meridians, wind-phlegm obstructing Ying and Wei, or post-illness yang failing to distribute to the four limbs. Quickly roast fresh ginger until hot, pound to extract half a small cup of juice, mix with a little sesame oil. Dip fingers in the ginger oil and apply to the child's hands and feet, rubbing downwards to unblock the meridians. Wipe away with fingers once warmth returns.
Nuan Tan Fa (Method of Warming Phlegm): For infants and children with cold-phlegm in the chest, causing intermittent fainting, waking up to vomit thick, greenish phlegm resembling mung bean powder. This is extreme cold phlegm, which previous methods cannot resolve. Take one raw Aconite lateral root (Fuzi) and one liang of fresh ginger, pound thoroughly, stir-fry until hot, wrap in cloth, and press/warm the back and chest. After pressing, roll the ginger and aconite into a cake and apply to the epigastrium. After a long while, the phlegm will descend naturally.
Na Qi Fa (Method of Grasping Qi): For infants and children with severe deficiency collapse, rapid upper breath, floating and scattering of True Qi that fails to return to its source, where all medicines are ineffective. Take five fen of Evodia rutaecarpa Fruit, mix with wine to form a cake, seal it onto the navel, and tie with a belt. The qi will naturally smooth out.
Ding Tong Fa (Method of Stabilizing Pain): For infants and children with chest fullness and abdominal pain, where medication cannot be given immediately. Take one bowl of salt, stir-fry in a pan until extremely hot, wrap in cloth, and press/warm the chest and abdomen from top to bottom. Salt enters the blood level and is best at softening hardness, thus relieving pain. Reheat and press as it cools until the pain stops. This formula treats qi pain in both males and females.
