**谨按**:关于运气的学说,《黄帝内经》(Huangdi Neijing, The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine)已经论述得很详细了。

The diagnosis and treatment based on Wu Yun Liu Qi (Five Movements and Six Qi) involves comprehending the principles of Heaven and Earth's Yin and Yang, and clarifying the mechanisms of the flourishing and waning of the Five Elements. It examines the coldness and warmth of climatic conditions, observes the auspiciousness or inauspiciousness of diseases among the people, deduces the methods of addition/subtraction and tonification/sedation, and applies remedies of cold, heat, warm, and cool natures. The ancients said: "To treat seasonal diseases without understanding Wu Yun Liu Qi is like crossing a sea without knowing where to ford." This statement is indeed true! Today, following the diagrams and formulas of the sages, we extract their essentials so that one may understand the entirety at a glance.
**Wu Yun (Five Movements) Paired with the Ten Heavenly Stems Years**
Years of Jia and Ji combine to form Tu Yun (Earth Movement).
Years of Yi and Geng combine to form Jin Yun (Metal Movement).
Years of Ding and Ren combine to form Mu Yun (Wood Movement).
Years of Bing and Xin combine to form Shui Yun (Water Movement).
Years of Wu and Gui combine to form Huo Yun (Fire Movement).
**Liu Qi (Six Qi) as Sitian (Supreme Qi) Years**
Years of Zi and Wu: Shaoyin Junhuo (Lesser Yin Sovereign Fire) is Sitian.
Years of Chou and Wei: Taiyin Shitu (Greater Yin Damp Earth) is Sitian.
Years of Yin and Shen: Shaoyang Xianghuo (Lesser Yang Ministerial Fire) is Sitian.
Years of Mao and You: Yangming Zaojin (Yangming Dry Metal) is Sitian.
Years of Chen and Xu: Taiyang Hanshui (Greater Cold Water) is Sitian.
Years of Si and Hai: Jueyin Fengmu (Jueyin Wind Wood) is Sitian.
**Southern Administration (Nanzheng) and Northern Administration (Beizheng)**
The Earth Movements of Jia and Ji years belong to Nanzheng (Southern Administration). Because Earth resides in the center, it acts like a monarch facing south issuing commands, while the other four movements serve it as ministers, facing north to receive orders; thus, there is a distinction.

**Commentary**: The theory of Wu Yun Liu Qi is discussed in detail in the *Huangdi Neijing* (Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon). Humans exist within the intersection of qi, interacting and circulating with Heaven and Earth. If one does not first establish the annual qi to clarify its characteristics, how can one know which tonifying or sedating herbs to use when treating disease? This is why the diagnosis and treatment based on Wu Yun Liu Qi cannot be ignored. I have also examined and verified this, finding that many situations do not correspond. Why? The waxing and waning of Yin and Yang, the alternation of cold and heat, may sometimes deviate from the norm. Wise individuals must understand its flexible application; how can one play a瑟 (se, a zither) with glued tuning pegs or search for a steed according to a drawing—being so rigid and mechanical?
