Banxia (Banxia, Pinelliae Rhizoma) (half sheng, washed), Huangqin (Huangqin, Scutellariae Radix), Ganjiang (Ganjiang, Zingiberis Rhizoma), Gancao (Gancao, Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Renshen (Renshen, Ginseng Radix) (each three liang), Huanglian (Huanglian, Coptidis Rhizoma) (one liang), Dazao (Dazao, Jujubae Fructus) (twelve pieces).
The above seven herbs are boiled in ten dou of water until six sheng remain. The dregs are removed, and the liquid is boiled again until three sheng remain. Take one sheng warm each time, three times a day.
Dahuang Huanglian Xiexin Tang (Rhubarb and Coptis Decoction to Drain the Epigastrium): Indicated for Taiyang disease (disease of the Taiyang channel) after severe purgation followed by sweating, resulting in pi syndrome (a sensation of fullness and obstruction in the epigastrium without pain on palpation) at the xiaxin (epigastric region), which feels soft upon pressure, with a floating and tight pulse at the guan position. This formula is indicated. If aversion to cold (fear of cold) is present, it indicates that the exterior syndrome has not yet resolved; therefore, the exterior should be resolved first, and then the pi syndrome treated.
Dahuang (Rhubarb, Rheum Palmati Radix et Rhizoma) (two liang), Huanglian (Coptis, Coptidis Rhizoma) (one liang).
Soak in two sheng of boiling hemp tea (Ma Fei Tang). After a short while, squeeze out the dregs and take warm in two doses.
Fuzi Xiexin Tang (Aconite Decoction to Drain the Epigastrium): Indicated for pi syndrome accompanied by aversion to cold.
Dahuang (Rhubarb, Rheum Palmati Radix et Rhizoma) (two liang), Huangqin (Scutellaria, Scutellariae Radix), Huanglian (Coptis, Coptidis Rhizoma) (each one liang), Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root, Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) (one piece, processed, skin removed, broken, decocted separately to extract juice).
The above four herbs: process three of them by soaking in two sheng of boiling hemp tea for a short while, squeeze out the dregs, add the Fuzi juice, and take warm in two doses.
Shengjiang Xiexin Tang (Fresh Ginger Decoction to Drain the Epigastrium): Indicated for disharmony in the stomach after the resolution of Taiyang disease, characterized by hardness and fullness of pi at the xiaxin, frequent belching with a smell of undigested food, fluid accumulation under the costal region, borborygmus (rumbling in the intestines), and diarrhea.
Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger, Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) (four liang), Banxia (Pinellia, Pinelliae Rhizoma) (half sheng), Renshen (Ginseng, Ginseng Radix) (three liang), Ganjiang (Dried Ginger, Zingiberis Rhizoma) (one liang), Huangqin (Scutellaria, Scutellariae Radix) (three liang), Gancao (Licorice, Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (three liang), Dazao (Jujube, Jujubae Fructus) (twelve pieces), Huanglian (Coptis, Coptidis Rhizoma) (one liang).
Gancao Xiexin Tang (Licorice Decoction to Drain the Epigastrium): Indicated for Taiyang or Zhongfeng (Wind Strike) where the physician erroneously used purgation, leading to diarrhea dozens of times a day, undigested food in stool, borborygmus, hardness and fullness of pi at the xiaxin, frequent belching, irritability, and inability to rest. Seeing the pi, the physician assumed the pathogen was not fully expelled and purged again, worsening the pi. This is not heat binding, but rather deficiency in the stomach allowing hostile qi to rebel upward.
Gancao (Licorice, Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (four liang), Huangqin (Scutellaria, Scutellariae Radix), Ganjiang (Dried Ginger, Zingiberis Rhizoma) (each three liang), Banxia (Pinellia, Pinelliae Rhizoma) (half sheng), Huanglian (Coptis, Coptidis Rhizoma) (one liang), Dazao (Jujube, Jujubae Fructus) (twelve pieces).
The above six herbs are boiled in ten dou of water until six sheng remain. Remove dregs, boil again until three sheng remain. Take one sheng warm each time, three times a day.
Wuzhuyu (Evodia, Evodiae Fructus) (three qian), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis, Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Xiong (Sichuan Lovage, Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Shaoyao (White Peony, Paeoniae Radix Alba), Renshen (Ginseng, Ginseng Radix), Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig, Cinnamomi Ramulus), Ejiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin, Asini Corii Colla), Gancao (Licorice, Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (roasted), Danpi (Moutan, Moutan Cortex) (each two qian), Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger, Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) (three qian), Banxia (Pinellia, Pinelliae Rhizoma) (two and a half qian), Maidong (Ophiopogon, Ophiopogonis Radix) (five qian).
The above twelve herbs are boiled in three cups of water until eight-tenths remain. Take warm. This formula also treats cold in the lower abdomen of women causing infertility, as well as metrorrhagia (sudden heavy bleeding from the uterus), menorrhagia (excessive menstrual flow), or amenorrhea (absence of menstruation) at the expected time. In this formula, Danggui, Xiong, Shaoyao, and Ejiao are herbs entering the Liver channel; Danpi and Guizhi are herbs entering the Heart channel; Wuzhuyu enters both the Liver and Stomach channels; Banxia enters both the Stomach and Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel); Maidong and Gancao enter the Stomach channel; Renshen tonifies the five zang organs; Shengjiang promotes the movement of qi. Since the disease involves the meridians and blood, and blood is generated by the Heart and stored in the Liver, and the Chong Mai is the Sea of Blood, and the Stomach belongs to Yangming while the Jueyin Liver channel connects with the Chong Mai... However, analyzing the intent of the formula, it focuses primarily on the Yangming channel. Wuzhuyu is used in high dosage (three qian) to dispel cold in the middle jiao of Yangming, while Maidong is used in high dosage (five qian) to moisten dryness in the middle jiao of Yangming. One is cold, one is hot, preventing bias, hence it is called "warming". Banxia is used in two and a half qian, and Shengjiang in three qian, because Shengjiang removes turbidity to calm Stomach qi, and Banxia descends rebellion to smooth Stomach qi. The remaining herbs assist each other. Its warming function contains no blood-invigorating herbs to remove stasis; thus, it can regulate amenorrhea, stop menorrhagia, and treat infertility due to lower abdominal cold. Its efficacy is miraculous and beyond words.
Yinting Fang (Formula for Uterine Prolapse): Secretly transmitted formula treating ant疮 (ant sores) in women, also known as chicken comb sore, commonly called yin gan (genital ulcer), ancient name yinting, now called chi xue lao (blood-eating consumption).
Feifan (Alum, Aluminae) (six liang), Tonglv (Malachite, Malachite), Wuwei (Schisandra, Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus), Xionghuang (Realgar, Realgar), Taoren (Peach Kernel, Persicae Semen) (one liang).
Grind into powder, mix with refined honey to make pills, each weighing four qian, coated with Xionghuang from the formula.
Note: Women suffering from this condition often keep it secret, allowing toxicity to attack the zang-fu organs, causing irregular menstruation, amenorrhea, permanent infertility, sallow complexion, emaciation, weakness of limbs, waist and abdominal pain, loss of appetite, cough with phlegm and wheezing, alternating chills and fever, spontaneous sweating, and night sweats. If the condition persists from one month to one year, ignorant practitioners may use knife surgery on the affected area, endangering life immediately. Upon encountering this condition, use only one pill of this cinnabar (medicine), or two for severe cases, inserted vaginally for immediate cure.
Zhuche Wan (Parking Car Pill): Treats severe cold-induced dysentery with intestinal sliding, passing red and white discharge resembling fish brains, occurring day and night without restraint, and unbearable abdominal pain.
Huanglian (Coptis, Coptidis Rhizoma) (six liang), Ganjiang (Dried Ginger, Zingiberis Rhizoma) (two liang), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis, Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Ejiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin, Asini Corii Colla) (each three liang).
Grind the above four herbs into powder. Dissolve Ejiao in eight he of strong vinegar, mix with the powder, and hand-roll into pills the size of soybeans. When dry, adults take thirty pills with water, children reduce dosage appropriately, three times a day.
Note: Zhang Luyu stated: "In the human body, there are 'cars' that travel along the spine, managing the transport of essence, qi, and spirit. The Sheep Car belongs to the Lung division, ideally positioned upper, governing the transformation of qi and generation of essence, yet its position is actually lower. The Deer Car belongs to the Kidney division, ideally positioned lower, governing the transformation of fire and supplementation of qi, yet its position is actually middle. The Ox Car belongs to the Spleen division, ideally positioned middle, governing the transformation of flavors and return of spirit, yet its position is actually upper. These are the normal states of healthy individuals. Cultivators dislike their順行 (forward-moving) nature and unpredictable arising/ceasing, so they practice reverse movement to establish the foundation of internal elixir. *Qianjin* further states that when healthy individuals lose their normal state, suffering from dysentery and metrorrhagia, it is indeed because the Deer Car moves too fast, driving the Sheep Car excessively, causing essence and blood to fail to store; the Ox Car becomes too fatigued to follow the Deer Car's gallop, causing failure to digest food and water. Therefore, Ganjiang is used to assist the Ox Car's robust transportation, Huanglian to retrieve the Deer Car from peril, Ejiao to rescue the Sheep Car from haste, and Danggui to regulate scattered blood and qi, so that essence, qi, and spirit return to their respective jurisdictions, avoiding the risk of collapse. Moreover, cold dysentery is cured by Ganjiang, heat dysentery improves with Huanglian, mixed cold-heat is resolved by Ginger and Coptis, Ejiao moistens Ganjiang's dryness, and Danggui harmonizes Huanglian's cold. This is not only a divine pill for chronic dysentery but also a specific medicine for resting dysentery."
Appendix: Divine Formula for Knife, Gunshot, and Fall Injuries
Baifuzi (White Aconite, Typhonii Rhizoma) (wrapped in flour, roasted on fire until cooked), Tianma (Gastrodia, Gastrodiae Rhizoma) (stir-fried with wine), Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia, Saposhnikoviae Radix), Baizhi (Angelica Dahurica, Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Nanxing (Arisaema, Arisaematis Rhizoma) (stir-fried with wine), Qianghuo (Notopterygium, Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix) (equal parts).
The above six herbs, in equal parts, are ground into fine powder and applied to the injured area. For severe injuries, take four or five qian with child's urine and aged wine; for mild injuries, take two or three qian with wine.
