Guizhi Shaoyao Zhimu Tang (Cinnamon Twig, Peony, and Anemarrhena Decoction): Treats various joint pains, emaciation of the body, swelling of the feet as if detached, dizziness, shortness of breath, and nausea with desire to vomit.
Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root), Shaoyao (White Peony Root), Gancao (Licorice Root), Mahuang (Ephedra Herb) (each 3 qian); Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), Zhimu (Anemarrhena Rhizome), Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root) (each 4 qian); Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) (5 qian).
The above nine herbs are decocted in 2.5 cups of water until reduced to 0.8 cup. Take orally, three times a day, both day and night.
This formula uses Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) with Jujube removed and Mahuang added to assist in unblocking Yang; adds Baizhu and Fangfeng to extend Spleen Qi; adds Fuzi and Zhimu to harmonize Yin and Yang; uses more Shengjiang to calm vomiting and rebellious Qi.
Zishou Jieyu Tang (Zishou Unbinding Speech Decoction): Treats wind-stroke causing Spleen flaccidity, stiff tongue, inability to speak, and hemiplegia. Its intent is similar to Dihuang Yinzi (Rehmannia Decoction for Quenching Thirst), but while Dihuang Yinzi focuses on the Kidney, this formula focuses on the Spleen.
Qianghuo (Notopterygium Rhizome) (0.5 qian), Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root), Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root), Lingyangjiao (Saiga Antelope Horn), Tianma (Gastrodia Rhizome), Suanzaoren (Ziziphus Seed) (each 1 qian); Rougui (Cinnamon Bark) (0.8 qian); Zhigancao (Honey-fried Licorice Root) (0.5 qian).
Decoct in 2 cups of water until reduced to 0.8 cup. Add Zhuli (Bamboo Juice) 5 qian and Shengjiangzhi (Ginger Juice) 2 qian, mix well, and take orally.
Yu Jiayan stated: If Kidney Qi fails to circulate to the root of the tongue, add Gouqi (Lycium Fruit), Shouwu (Polygonum Multiflorum Root), Tiandong (Asparagus Tuber), Juhua (Chrysanthemum Flower), Shichangpu (Acorus Rhizome), and Xuanshen (Scrophularia Root).
Qingshu Yiqi Tang (Clear Summerheat and Augment Qi Decoction): Summerheat is heat. The Lung governs Qi; excessive heat causes Qi leakage, just as excessive summerheat damages Metal (Lung). Therefore, clearing summerheat must augment Qi. It applies to internal injury from fatigue and summerheat latent in late summer and autumn.
Huangqi (Astragalus Root) (reduce by half if sweating is scant), Cangzhu (Atractylodes Lancea Rhizome) (soaked in rice water), Shengma (Cimicifuga Rhizome) (each 1 qian); Renshen (Ginseng Root), Zexie (Alisma Rhizome), Jupi (Tangerine Peel), Shenqu (Medicated Leaven) (stir-fried), Baizhu (Earth-fried Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) (each 0.5 qian); Maidong (Ophiopogon Tuber), Dangshen (Codonopsis Root), Gancao (Honey-fried Licorice Root) (each 0.3 qian); Gegen (Pueraria Root), Huangbai (Phellodendron Bark) (wine-soaked, skin removed) (each 0.2 qian); Wuweizi (Schisandra Berry) (9 grains); Qingpi (Green Tangerine Peel) (pith removed) (0.75 qian).

Baizhu (4 qian), Fuzi (1.5 qian), Gancao (1 qian).
Add 2 slices of Shengjiang and 2 Hongzao (Jujubes), decoct in water, and take orally.
Yu Jiayan said: "This formula treats individuals with empty Kidney Qi, where external wind enters the Kidney, resembling cold, bleak winds blowing ceaselessly day and night in a dark cave. The wind carries turbid Yin Qi from the Kidney, rebelling upward, causing unbearable heaviness and vertigo in the head. Accompanied by deficient Stomach Qi and loss of taste, the formula uses no wind-dispelling herbs. Instead, it uses Fuzi to warm the Water Organ (Kidney), and Baizhu and Gancao to warm the Earth Organ (Spleen). Once Water and Earth are warmed, turbid Yin Qi descends, resolving the heavy vertigo and loss of taste. 'Augmenting essence and Qi' refers to the fact that once taste returns, appetite increases, and essence is generated from grain."
Wenpi Tang (Warm the Intestines Decoction): Treats stubborn cold accumulation in the intestines and stomach causing diarrhea and abdominal pain. One should first purge the cold accumulation before regulating; do not nourish the disease out of fear of deficiency.
Fuzi, Ganjiang (Dried Ginger), Gancao, Guixin (Cinnamon Twig Heart), Nongpo (Magnolia Bark) (each 2 qian); Dahuang (Rhubarb Root) (0.4 qian).
Decoct in 2 cups of water until reduced to 0.6 cup. Take orally.
Yu Jiayan said: "Xu Shumi formulated this decoction, deeply aligning with Zhang Zhongjing's method of purging with warm herbs. In this formula, Dahuang is essential; without it, the warm herbs cannot descend, and lingering pathogens cannot be expelled. Using too much may overwhelm the warm herbs, potentially worsening diarrhea. Judicious use is truly worthy of emulation."
Jishi Li (Chicken Dropping Fermented Liquid): Treats鼓胀 (Drum Distension / Abdominal Tympanites).
Jishi (Chicken Droppings) (dried, 5 he; those from mountains are superior).
Grind into fine powder. Take 5 qian each time, mixed with wine after meals.

Process the twelve herbs according to prescription. Separately grind Chuanbei (Sichuan Fritillaria Bulb) into fine powder. After decocting the medicine, mix in the powder and take together. Use 3 slices of Shengjiang as the guiding herb. Take on an empty stomach.
This formula entirely employs the "supporting/pushing" method. Danggui, Chuanxiong, and Baishaoyao nourish blood and invigorate blood circulation; Nongpo removes stasis, using it to open blood vessels so lochia does not block; Qianghuo and Jingjie unblock the Taiyang Meridian, pushing from behind; since the Taiyang Meridian is the longest, its unblocking treats all meridians; Zhiqiao regulates stagnant Qi, pushing from the front to restrain fetal Qi and prevent obstruction; Aiye warms the uterus, stimulating uterine movement for fetal agility; Beimu and Tusizi facilitate smooth fetal passage and Qi flow, supporting the whole fetus with natural vitality; adding Huangqi supports Yuan Qi (Primal Qi); strong Yuan Qi provides forceful movement; Shengjiang opens the spirit, removes filth, disperses cold, stops vomiting, supporting Zheng Qi (Upright Qi) and calming Stomach Qi; Gancao harmonizes the herbs, ensuring balance and preserving the miracle of the "pushing" method. Many do not understand this formula; Cheng Shanling's annotation is superior, so it is recorded in full.
Shixiao San (Laughing-Off Powder): Treats severe cardiac and abdominal colic after childbirth; or blood confusing the heart orifices leading to unconsciousness; or retained placenta. Also treats heart pain due to blood stasis.

Jingui Fangji Fuling Tang (Jingui Stephania and Poria Decoction): Treats Pi Shui (Skin Water / Edema confined to skin). This condition arises because Lung closure prevents Liver Wood from descending, causing overflow into the skin. It resembles Feng Shui (Wind Water) but is characterized by absence of aversion to wind.
Fangji (Stephania Root), Huangqi (Astragalus Root), Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig) (each 3 liang); Fuling (Poria) (6 liang); Gancao (Licorice Root) (2 liang).

*Jingui Yi* states: "Spitting pink frothy sputum indicates damage to Lung collaterals and blood seepage. Treat with fresh lotus root, white glutinous rice, and red dates decocted in soup. Take frequently; it will heal over time. This formula was taught by Chi Weixin of the Plain White Banner and is highly effective."
Formula for Hematochezia from Intestinal Hemorrhoids

Decoct together until reduced to 0.7. Strain and take warm at any time. The original formula contains Qianhu (Peucedanum Root) but lacks Renshen, Huangqin, Gancao, Danggui, and Baishao. I speculate these were added from Chaihu Yinzi (Bupleurum Drink) to prepare for tonifying deficiency and draining heat. Qianhu was removed to avoid excessive dispersion.
Liangge San (Cool the Diaphragm Powder): Treats accumulated heat in the Upper Jiao, restlessness, flushed face, dizziness, sore throat, glottal obstruction, mouth ulcers, cheek swelling, stuffy and red urine/feces, delirium, and restless sleep (all wind congestion).

*Yu Ji* states: "For mild cases, Jiegeng Tang (Platycodon Decoction) is suitable. Remove Mangxiao and Dahuang from this formula and add Jiegeng (Platycodon Root). As a boat-like herb, it floats upward to clear formless heat in the chest without affecting the Middle and Lower Jiao."
Dazao Tang (Jujube Decoction): Treats pain caused by fluid retention. Harsh formulas should not be used lightly.
Daji (Euphorbia Root), Yuanhua (Genkwa Flower) (stir-fried), Gansui (Kansui Root) (equal parts, ground).
Use 10 Dazao (Jujubes), decoct in 2 cups of water until reduced to 0.7 cup. Strain, add medicine (approx. 0.7 qian measured by square inch spoon). Take next morning to induce bowel movement. If not moved, take another dose. After taking, if the body feels weak, nourish with thin congee.

Grind the twenty-one herbs into powder, mix with refined honey to form pills the size of a bullet. Take one pill with wine on an empty stomach. One hundred pills constitute one course.
Wei Nianting said: "Human Yuan Qi resides in the Lung, and human Yang Qi resides in the Kidney. Once depleted, recovery is difficult; it relies entirely on post-heaven Grain Qi to nourish life. Ying and Wei cannot be circulated without the Spleen and Stomach, and Blood and Qi cannot recover without diet. Thus, Zhang Zhongjing established this Shuyu Wan method for consumptive deficiencies accompanied by wind-pathogens. In the formula, Shuyu is primary, specifically managing the Spleen and Stomach. Whether damage is upper or lower, support is maintained here. Renshen, Baizhu, Fuling, Ganjiang, Douhuangjuan, Dazao, Shenqu, and Gancao assist by removing dampness and augmenting Qi, allowing the command of the Central Earth to function. Danggui, Xiong, Shaoyao, Dihuang, Maidong, and Ejiao nourish blood and yin. Chaihu, Guizhi, and Fangfeng dispel pathogens and dissipate heat. Xingren, Jiegeng, and Bailian direct Qi downward and open depression. Fearing that tonics might be rejected by those with deficiency and heat, we scatter pathogenic heat and open rebellious depression so that Blood and Qi become smooth, allowing tonification to be accepted. This is the unchanging principle."

Grind the twelve herbs into powder, mix with refined honey to form pills the size of small beans. Take 5 pills with wine, three times a day.
You Shi said: "If wind-pathogens are not removed, they will harm Zheng Qi, preventing growth and nourishment; thus, Shuyu Wan is a key formula. If dry blood is not removed, it retains new blood, preventing proper distribution; thus, this pill is a superior agent."
I note: This pill was inspired by the Si Wu E Gu Yi Lu Ru Wan (Four Black Birds, Cuttlebone, and Rubia Decoction) from *Neijing*, but is less accessible than that ancient formula.

Thus, Earth is governed by Heaven; Form accepts Qi, thus Earth accepts Heaven. Stomach is Earth, belonging to Kun; Qi is Yang, belonging to Qian. The Stomach is the leader of the Twelve Meridians, transforming dregs and transporting essences to become the fu organs of transmission. It is not merely a solid form, but relies on the continuous movement of Qian's Qi. The name "Chengqi" indeed has this meaning, not merely "smooth Qi." Duke Xian's interpretation surpasses predecessors. Regrettably, his work *Shanghan Leishu* was not published. Duke Xian's personal name was Xiaoming, from ancient Wu.
