[General Outline of Dian and Kuang Disorders]
The distinction between Dian disorder (catatonic schizophrenia-like state) and Kuang disorder (manic psychosis-like state) lies in their Yin and Yang attributes. Differentiation of emotional manifestations such as joy, anger, sorrow, and fright requires detailed and careful examination. The true nature of cold and heat symptoms will be fully revealed, and various pathological images are presented clearly and conspicuously.
Ling Gan Jiang Gui Long Gu Tang (Pinellia, Licorice, Ginger, Cinnamon Twig, and Dragon Bone Decoction)
(Attached Syndrome Description) The formula consists of Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig), Baishao (White Peony Root), Fuling (Poria), Gancao (Licorice Root), Banxia (Pinellia Tuber), and Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger). Adding Longgu (Dragon Bone) and Muli (Oyster Shell) consolidates the spirit effectively. If phlegm is present, Shuqi (Scutellaria Barbata Herb) should be added. This formula is indicated for Dian disease classified as Yin type.
Danpi Chaihu Xijiao Tang (Moutan Bark, Bupleurum Root, and Rhinoceros Horn Decoction)
(Attached Syndrome Description) The formula comprises Fuling (Poria), Baishao (White Peony Root), Dihuang (Rehmannia Root), Danpi (Moutan Bark), Gancao (Licorice Root), Chaihu (Bupleurum Root), and Xijiao (Rhinoceros Horn). [General Outline of Xian Disorder]
Sudden collapse with loss of consciousness, salivation from the mouth, traction and convulsions of the four limbs accompanied by strange sounds, urinary incontinence, and locked jaw indicate the need for Wendan Tang (Phlegm-Resolving Decoction), which is an excellent prescription.
Wendan Tang (Phlegm-Resolving Decoction)
(Syndrome seen above) The formula consists of Chenpi (Aged Tangerine Peel), Banxia (Pinellia Tuber), Fuling (Poria), and Gancao (Licorice Root), forming an excellent base. Dan Fan Wan (Cinnabar and Alum Pill)
(Attached Syndrome Description) Calcine Dan (Cinnabar) and Fan Shi (Alum) in a pot until red, grind into powder, mix with La Cha (Winter Tea) powder, and form pills using Zhu Xin Xue (Pig Heart Blood). This pill attacks the excessive phlegm associated with Xian disorder.
[General Outline of Sui Disorder]
Emaciation, reduced appetite, and unpredictable changes characterize this condition. Tremors, alternating red and yellow facial complexions, intermittent flow of white foam, and irregular pulse patterns suggest the use of Que Xie Tang (Evil-Expelling Decoction).
Que Xie Tang (Evil-Expelling Decoction)
Xijiao (Rhinoceros Horn) and Lingyangjiao (Saiga Antelope Horn) constitute a spiritual formula, combined with Hugu (Tiger Bone), Renshen (Ginseng Root), Lujiaoshuang (Deer Horn Frost), plus Muli (Oyster Shell) and Longchi (Dragon Tooth). Simmer with meat broth and cook mutton together.
[General Outline of Eye Disorders]
Eye disorders arise because Clear Yang fails to ascend, while Turbid Yin rebels upward, causing heat steaming. Initially, redness, swelling, and nebulae appear; over time, fright and other complications may increase.
Chaihu Shaoyao Danpi Tang (Bupleurum, Peony, and Moutan Decoction)
(Attached Syndrome Description) When the left eye suffers unbearable pain intermittently, Chaihu (Bupleurum Root) and Huangqin (Scutellaria Root) are used to clear Ministerial Fire. Baihe Wuwei Tang (Lily and Schisandra Decoction)

If heat is severe, add Gao (Anemarrhena Rhizome) and Mu (Phellodendron Bark).

Guizhi Danpi Shouwu Tang (Cinnamon Twig, Moutan, and Polygonum Vine Decoction)

(Attached Syndrome Description) Chaihu (Bupleurum Root), Gancao (Licorice Root), Changpu (Acorus Rhizome), and Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig) are combined with Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) and Mudanpi (Moutan Bark). Shaoyao Zaoren Chaihu Tang (Peony, Ziziphus Seed, and Bupleurum Decoction)
(Attached Syndrome Description) Protruding eyeballs can always be treated; Shaoyao (Peony Root) and Shouwu (Polygonum Vine Stem) are best for astringency.
