The *Classic of Medicine* (*Huangdi Neijing*) states: "When the pulse is affected by wind and transforms into Leprosy (Lifeng), it is commonly known as 'Lai Feng' (scabies-like wind disease)."
Mr. Danxi (Zhu Zhenheng) said: "The Great Wind disease (i.e., Leprosy/Lifeng) results from contracting the killing wind of heaven and earth, which the ancients called Lifeng because its nature is fierce, violent, and terrifying. Upon contracting this disease, one must distinguish whether the pathology is located in the upper or lower body. For pathology in the upper body, use Zuixian San (Immortal's Elixir Powder) to induce the discharge of foul blood through the gum fissures. For pathology in the lower body, use Tongtian Zaizao San (Sky-Penetrating Rebirth Powder) to induce the discharge of foul matter and roundworms through the anus. Although the pathways of discharge differ between upper and lower, they all pertain to the Yangming Meridian (the meridians of the Stomach and Large Intestine). Observe the nodules: if they appear first on the upper body and are more numerous there, the disease is in the upper part; if they appear first on the lower body and are more numerous there, the disease is in the lower part; if both upper and lower are equally involved, the disease affects both. The Yangming Meridian governs the Stomach and Large Intestine, accepting all things. When this wind pathogen enters the human body, Qi deficiency predominates in the upper part, Blood deficiency predominates in the lower part, and when both Qi and Blood are affected, both upper and lower parts are heavily involved. Unless the physician possesses divine skill and the patient has an iron will (to strictly observe dietary restrictions), few will escape. I once treated four or five patients, among whom only one woman recovered because she was extremely poor and had no food to eat (thus inadvertently avoiding forbidden foods). Sun Simiao said: 'I have treated four or five hundred patients, and not a single one survived.' This is not because Master Sun could not cure them, but because no one could abide by the dietary taboos."
The general principle for treatment is that for severe cases, one should employ methods to purge accumulation and induce sweating.

My teacher (Zhang Congzheng/Zhang Yuansu) said: In the *Discourse on Wind*, it is stated: "In Leprosy, Ying and Wei heat stagnates, causing turbid Qi, leading to nasal collapse, facial discoloration, and skin ulcers. Wind and Cold lodge in the vessels and do not depart, named Leprosy." Treatment involves needling the swollen area with a sharp needle to extract evil Qi until swelling subsides. Diet should remain normal; avoid other foods. If using herbs, one must break blood, clear heat, raise Yang, stop itching, drain Ying, disperse with pungent-cold herbs, raise with sweet-warm herbs, circulate the Yangming Meridian, drain Heart Fire, and tonify Lung Qi. This is the correct treatment.
