Any woman presenting with red or white leukorrhea (vaginal discharge) is mostly caused by damp-heat in the Spleen and Stomach. White discharge is mostly due to Qi deficiency, while red discharge is mostly due to Blood heat. After a long time, it gradually turns into deficiency-cold, manifesting as sallow complexion and emaciation. Initially, one must regulate the Stomach and strengthen the Spleen, clear heat and leach out dampness, such as using Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction), Wu Ling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria), plus ginger-fried Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma). People often do not consider this urgent; delaying treatment for a long time weakens the Spleen and Stomach, leading to irregular menstruation, and even severe dripping or metrorrhagia (flooding), thus becoming a major affliction that requires considerable effort to treat. At this stage, the prescription must be appropriate to achieve efficacy. For example, using Ren Shen Huang Qi Tang (Ginseng and Astragalus Decoction - note: context implies a tonic formula similar to Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang) or Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) as the main formula, adding herbs that lift and secure is the method.
Ren Shen Huang Qi Tang (See formula in the section "Zhong Si Guang Yu"): Add vinegar-processed Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Mu Li Fen (Ostreae Concha Pulvis), and Yu Yu Liang (Yuyuliang).
Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (See formula in the section "Pi Wei").
Secret Effective Formula: Highly effective for treating leukorrhea. (See formula in "Kuai Jie Fang Shi Liu Shu · Ming Ji").
Metrorrhagia and metrostaxis (bleeding from the uterus) are among the most serious diseases in women. Young women, due to blazing fire and blood heat, excessive sexual intercourse, or coitus during menstruation, all contract this disease. Generally, cooling the blood, astringing, lifting Qi, and nourishing Ying (Nutritive) Qi can lead to recovery. For those above middle age, and elderly widows, it is mostly due to excessive worry and thought, resulting in dual deficiency of Qi and Blood. This is difficult to treat; one must greatly tonify Qi and Blood, nourish the Spleen, and lift and secure, so as to save two out of ten cases. If this disease is not treated early, it is like a dilapidated building, slanting and collapsing, making it hard to support and straighten it; it is also like irrigating after the seedling has withered, how can it make it flourish?
Liang Xue Di Huang Tang (Cool Blood and Rehmannia Decoction), Huang Qin San (Scutellaria Powder), A Ai Wan (Artemisia and Moxa Pill), Qi Hui San (Seven Ashes Powder) (All four formulas are seen in the section "Zhong Si Guang Yu").
Shi Quan Da Bu Tang (Comprehensive Great Tonifying Decoction): Replace Gui Zhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus) with Pao Hei Gan Jiang (Prepared Black Zingiberis Rhizoma), add E Jiao Zhu (Processed Donkey-hide Gelatin Bead). (See formula in the section "Xu Sun").
Secret Effective Formula (See "Kuai Jie Fang Shi Liu Shu · Ming Ji").
Who collected the volume "Zhong Si Guang Yu" (Abundant Procreation)? It was collected and transmitted by Xu Ru Yuan, to share with the public. Ru Yuan is the posthumous son of my old friend, Xiang Prince's Steward, Mr. He Shan. He was naturally sharp and intelligent. In his youth, he studied under Ye Guang Shan, a Imperial Student, focusing on civil service examinations. Later, suffering from frequent illness, he asked my clan nephew, Zi Liang, about medicine. Zi Liang was well-known for his medical skills. At that time, Ru Yuan, being a Confucian scholar who understood medicine, could easily refine his techniques. His intention was always to prioritize helping others, not seeking profit, which is truly commendable. He frequently visited me, often questioning me about the pulse theory, pathogenesis, and treatment methods from the *Su Wen* (Basic Questions), as well as the books of Liu (Wansu), Li (Dongyuan), Zhang (Congzheng), and Zhu (Danxi). Ru Yuan analyzed them clearly, answering questions immediately without hesitation. This shows that Ru Yuan’s medicine has its roots and his profession has a lineage; he is not like the vulgar doctors of recent times who merely memorize herbal materia medica to treat diseases or stick rigidly to ancient prescriptions to medicate people. They are incomparable. All medical books from the ancient times of Xuanyuan (Yellow Emperor) and Qibo's *Ling Shu* (Spiritual Pivot) and *Su Wen*, through Han, Tang, and Song dynasties, up to our illustrious Ming Dynasty, numbering over two hundred works circulating in the world, Ru Yuan investigated their subtleties thoroughly, narrated and compiled them, naming the work *Gu Jin Yi Tong* (Comprehensive Collection of Ancient and Modern Medical Standards). Anything related to medicine is extensively covered and detailed; it is indeed the grand synthesis of various physicians' achievements. I read the volume "Zhong Si Guang Yu", which contains discussions on tracing origins and examining ends, Yin deficiency, and regulating menstruation, showing much merit in promoting continuous life. I appreciate his insightful brilliance, which is solidly logical and earnest, emphasizing the importance of continuing the family line. If one can embody and practice this, there may well be abundant offspring like the locusts (symbolizing fertility). His intention is indeed benevolent! Hu Yun Feng said: A physician who is also a Confucian is a enlightened doctor; Ru Yuan embodies this. Ru Yuan, named Chun Fu; Si He is his pseudonym. Young and gifted, broadly collecting and compiling, let alone pursuing profound meanings tirelessly, he is truly a scholar renowned in the world. Wang Qu, Daoist of Hanxi in Xin'an, wrote the preface.
