Discussion states: The movement of Ying-Qi (Nutritive Qi) usually accompanies Wei-Qi (Defensive Qi). Therefore, Qi and Blood do not separate. The Liver stores Blood, while the Lung governs Qi; when Ying and Wei are harmonious, Qi and Blood flow smoothly. If there is heat in the viscera and bowels, heat invades Qi and Blood. When blood nature is affected by heat, it flows excessively and acts recklessly. Since the Lung opens into the nose, this manifests as Bi Nu (epistaxis/nosebleed). The reason for unceasing epistaxis is deficiency of the viscera and abundance of blood. The *Neijing* further states that if Spleen transfers heat to the Liver, it results in Jing Nu (epistaxis induced by fright). This is because the Spleen belongs to Earth, and the Liver belongs to Wood. Now, if the Spleen transfers heat to the Liver, Wood cannot control Earth. The Liver stores Blood and its spirit is Hun (Ethereal Soul); thus, the disease of Jing Nu arises.
