Treats Stomach Qi deficiency (Stomach Qi deficiency). Lack of appetite for food. Fatigue and reduced food intake.
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix) (1 qian to 3 qian), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) (stir-fried until yellow, 1 qian to 2 qian), Fu Ling (Poria) (1 qian to 1.5 liang), Gan Cao (Licorice Root) (honey-fried, 6 fen to 1 qian).
The above four ingredients. Decoct in water. Take warm on an empty stomach. Note: Si Jun Zi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction) is the specific medicine for regulating the Qi aspect of the Stomach. When used for Stomach Qi deficiency, its efficacy is seen immediately. Even when using Si Wu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) for Blood deficiency, it is necessary to combine this formula. Therefore, the indications for Ba Zhen Tang (Eight Treasures Decoction) are not limited to dual deficiency of Qi and Blood. Even in cases of Blood deficiency, Qi-tonifying herbs should be combined. However, tonifying Qi focuses on Si Jun Zi Tang, while nourishing Blood focuses on Si Wu Tang. If purely using Blood-nourishing herbs, without the power of Yang generation, Yin cannot be transformed. In the formula, if Bai Zhu is used to treat Spleen-Stomach deficiency leading to loose stools, or vomiting, nausea, and anorexia, stir-fried charred Bai Zhu should be combined, so that it possesses the power of strengthening and transporting. For Lung-Stomach deficiency with dryness, coughing, and hemoptysis, Bai Zhu steamed over aged rice more than ten times must be used, thereby transforming turbidity into clarity and dryness into moistness. Therefore, in Yi Gong San (Extraordinary Efficacy Powder), Ba Zhen Tang, Gui Pi Tang (Restore the Spleen Decoction), Xiao Yao San (Free Wanderer Powder), and other formulas, steamed Bai Zhu is appropriate. Even for Yin deficiency with dry cough and expectoration of white frothy sputum, there is no hindrance. Adding White Honey (Apis mellifera honey) for拌蒸 (steaming with mixing) is even more suitable. Regarding the variations in light and heavy processing, it entirely depends on the practitioner's flexible application and adaptive changes. Taking this as an example, one can infer other situations.

Si Jun Zi Tang plus Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) (white pith removed slightly). Pulverized into powder. Take 3-4 qian per dose. Add one slice of Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens). Decoct in water. Strain and take.

Take 1-2 qian per dose. Add five leaves of Bo He (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba). Decoct in water and take hot. Induce slight sweating for cure. If not cured, administer again. Add Cong Bai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus) and Xiang Chi (Sojae Semen Praeparatum).
Si Shou Yin Treats Malaria with Stomach deficiency, complicated by Phlegm and Food retention.
Si Jun Zi Tang plus Ban Xia, Chen Pi, Cao Guo (Tsaoko Fructus) pulverized into powder. Take 4-5 qian per dose. Add seven slices of Sheng Jiang. One piece of Wu Mei Rou. Decoct in water. Take hot early in the morning.

Si Jun Zi Tang plus Huang Qi, Shan Yao, Su Mi (Panicum miliaceum), Bian Dou. (Stir-fried until carbonized but retaining nature).
Jiu Wei Zi Sheng Wan Treats elderly people with difficulty digesting and transporting food.
The base formula of Si Jun Zi Tang: Ren Shen and Bai Zhu each 3 liang. Fu Ling 1.5 liang. Zhi Gan Cao 0.5 liang. Plus Ju Hong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Rubrum), Zha Rou (Crataegi Fructus), Zhen Shen Qu each 2 liang. Chuan Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Bai Dou Kou (Cardamomi Fructus) each 3.5 qian. Form pills with refined White Honey. Ancient formulas contained only these nine ingredients. Later generations added Jie Geng and Huo Xiang each 0.5 liang. Ze Xie (Alismatis Rhizoma) 3.5 qian. Bian Dou and Lian Rou each 1 liang. Yi Yi Ren 3 liang. Shan Yao, Mai Ya (Hordei Fructus Germinatus), Qian Shi (Euryales Semen) each 1.5 liang. After drinking or overeating, chew finely one pill the size of a marble. Descend with light Ginger Soup. Then alcohol and food are easily digested. Strengthens Spleen and opens appetite. Eliminates food stagnation and stops diarrhea. Harmonizes Zang-Fu organs. Nourishes Ying and Wei. Taken when hungry, one feels full. Taken after eating, one feels hungry. Although the complexity of the prescription differs, the efficacy is identical. Therefore, both are preserved.
Ba Zhen Tang Treats women with Tai Chan Beng Lou (gestational/postpartum metrorrhagia). Cases of dual deficiency of Qi and Blood.
Si Jun Zi Tang combined with Si Wu Tang.
Ba Wu Tang Treats dual deficiency of Ying and Wei. Aversion to cold and fever.
Ba Zhen Tang minus Ren Shen plus Huang Qi. Note: The functions of Ba Zhen Tang and Ba Wu Tang differ significantly. Because Ren Shen specifically tonifies the Yuan Qi of Zang-Fu organs, whereas Huang Qi only governs the opening and closing of Ying and Wei. People often say Huang Qi can replace Ren Shen, and frequently use Ba Wu Tang to tonify the Qi of Zang-Fu organs. This is truly laughable.
Ren Shen Wei Feng Tang (Ju Fang) Treats Wind pathogen entering the Stomach. Ability to eat but with bloody stools.
Si Jun Zi Tang minus Gan Cao plus Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Chuan Xiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Gui Zhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Su Mi. Another version adds Mu Xiang. Note: Why does Wind entering the Stomach allow for eating? Generally, Wind is a Yang pathogen. Its nature is good at moving. Over time it transforms into Heat. This is what the Nei Jing refers to as Dan becoming Xiao Zhong (Gluttony disease). The formula uses only Gui Zhi to dispel Wind, without clearing Heat, because Heat will necessarily resolve externally along with the Wind, requiring no separate treatment.
Yi Qi Yang Ying Tang Treats Luo Li (scrofula) nodules, Liu Zhu (flowing abscesses). All kinds of stagnant Heat and toxic vapors.
Ba Zhen Tang plus Huang Qi, Jie Geng, Bei Mu (Fritillariae Bulbus), Xiang Fu (Cyperi Rhizoma), Chen Pi, Sheng Jiang.
Da Fang Feng Tang (Ju Fang) Treats pathogenic invasion of the Foot Three Yin meridians. Pain in legs and knees. And pain in shins and knees after dysentery. He Xi Feng (Crane Knee Wind). Fu Gu Ju (Bone-attached abscess). Contraindicated in cases with redness, heat, and swelling.
Si Jun Zi Tang minus Fu Ling. Plus Rou Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex), Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata), Huang Qi, Niu Xi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), Du Zhong (Eucommiae Cortex), Shu Di (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Bai Shao, Chuan Xiong, Qiang Huo, Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix).
