用法：将上述药物用水三升，煎煮至一升，分三次温服（先温上半部分，再温下半部分），去渣服用。
主治：肺脾气机阻滞，受风冷伤害，导致咽喉肿痛，说话不出声。适宜服用此方。（出自《太平惠民和剂局方·圣惠方》）
另一组药材：桂心（一两）、木通（一两，锉碎）、防风（一两，去掉芦头）、射干（一两）、附子（一两，炮裂后去皮脐）、桔梗（一两，汤浸去皮）、生姜（适量）。
用法：水煎，温服。

药材：黄芩（去掉黑心一两半）、枳壳（去掉瓤麸炒一两半）、升麻（一两）、木通（锉碎一两）、芍药、柴胡（各适量）。
用法：粗捣筛过。
杏仁煎：治疗突发咳嗽导致失音不语。
药材：杏仁（去皮尖研碎三两）、桑白皮、生姜（取汁）、蜂蜜、砂糖（各一两半）、木通、贝母（各适量）。
用法：以水煎煮。
小续命汤：治疗突然发生的咽喉闭塞，不能言语。
药材：防己、麻黄、人参、肉桂、黄芩、甘草（炙）、白芍药、杏仁、川芎（各一两）、附子（半两）。
用法：水煎，温服。
又一方（出自《圣惠方》）：
药材：丹参（一方用朱砂）、升麻、雄黄（细研）、杏仁（汤浸去皮尖双仁麸炒微黄）、鬼臼、甘草（炙微黄）。
用法：制成丸药。加量使用。
主治：咽喉肿痛，脾肺壅塞有毒，说话不出声。适宜服用此方。（出自《圣惠方》）
另一组药材：木通（一两，锉碎）、杏仁（三分，汤浸去皮尖双仁麸炒微黄）、石菖蒲（三分）、川升麻（三分）、羚羊角（适量）。
用法：每次服用三钱，用水煎服。
射干汤：治疗风热之邪客居搏结于脾肺经，血脉壅遏导致喉门肿痛，说话不出声。
药材：射干、紫菀（去掉苗土）、款冬花（各一两半）、麻黄（去掉根节二两）、细辛（去掉苗叶）、五味子（炒）。
用法：煎煮至药液浓缩。
发声散（出自《御药院方》）：治疗说话不出声，胸满短气，流涎咳嗽气喘胸闷，咽喉噎塞感。
药材：桑白皮、升麻、桔梗、川芎（各一两）、甘草、马兜铃、羌活（各半两）。
用法：上药为细末。每次服用一钱。
主治：咽喉肿痛，声音嘶哑发不出声。（出自《圣惠方》）
另一组药材：生姜汁（二合）、生地黄汁（三合）、桂心（末半两）、杏仁（一两，汤浸去皮尖双仁麸炒微黄）。
用法：研磨如泥状。
主治：治疗咽喉受伤导致声音不清晰。
另一方：酒、酥（各一升）、干姜（二两，研末）、通草、桂心、石菖蒲（各二两，研末）。
用法：混合调和。每次服用一匕。每日三次。
主治：治疗说话不出声。
另一方：浓醋、生姜汁、自然铜、蛇衔草、木马麻草。
用法：以上各等分为末，用芦管吹入喉内，立即见效。
菖蒲丸（出自《圣惠方》）：治疗咽喉肿痛，说话不出声。
药材：石菖蒲（二两）、孔公孽（细研一两）、木通（锉碎二两）、皂荚（一根长一尺的去黑皮涂酥炙令黑黄去子）。
用法：上药为末，炼蜜和丸如梧桐子大。每次服用二十丸至三十丸，煎鬼箭羽汤送服，不拘时候。
荆芥汤（又名三神汤，出自《三因极一病证方论》）：治疗风热肺壅，咽喉肿痛，说话不出声。感觉如有物卡住咽喉，吞咽则疼痛加剧。
药材：荆芥穗（半两）、甘草（炙一两）、桔梗（二两）。
用法：上药为粗末。每次服用四钱，用水一盏，生姜三片，煎煮至……

The throat is the pathway for Qi. The epiglottis is the gate of voice. If wind pathogens and heat toxins reside in the Spleen Fu, Yin and Yang become disharmonious, and the Qi pathway becomes obstructed.
Kushen Wan (Bitter Sophora Pill) [from *Shengji Zonglu*]: Treats sore throat and swelling, aphonia (loss of voice), and thick, turbid phlegm and saliva.
Herbs: Kushen (Sophorae Flavescentis Radix, 1 fen), Baifan (Alumen calcined to dryness, 0.5 liang), Shanzhizi Ren (Gardeniae Fructus Semen, 1 liang), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis, crushed), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, de-awned), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen, soaked in water, skin and tip removed).
Usage: Powder the above herbs, mix with refined honey to form pills the size of wax gourd seeds. Take 20–30 pills per dose, decocted in Licorice Decoction. Swallow the juice after holding in the mouth post-meal.
Tongsheng Gao (Voice-Enhancing Ointment):
Herbs: Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus, 3 liang each), Kua Donghua (Asteris Flos, 3 liang each), Tongcao (Tetrapanacis Medulla, 3 liang each), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Qing Zhupi (Green Bamboo Sheath), Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Changpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma, 2 liang each), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen), Jiangzhi (Zingiberis Juice).
Usage: Decoct the above herbs in three sheng of water until one sheng remains. Divide into three doses, warm and take. Remove dregs.
Indications: Lung and Spleen Qi stagnation, injury by wind-cold, resulting in sore throat and swelling, and aphonia. This formula is suitable. [from *Taiping Huimin Heji Jufang*]
Another set of herbs: Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus, 1 liang), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis, 1 liang, crushed), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, 1 liang, radix head removed), Shegan (Belamcandae Rhizoma, 1 liang), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, 1 liang, processed, skin and navel removed), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix, 1 liang, soaked in water, skin removed), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens).
Usage: Decoct in water, take warm.
Shengjiang Gao (Mother Ginger Wine): Treats sore throat and swelling, hoarseness, and aphonia. The glottis is the manifestation of the Liver and Gallbladder; if internal organs are hot...
Herbs: Mujiao (Zingiberis Juice, 1 sheng), Niuisui (Bovis Medulla, 3 liang), Mayou (Sesami Oleum, 2 liang), Xiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma, 2 liang), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix, 1.5 liang), Qinjiao (Ligustici Wallichii Rhizoma et Radix, 1 liang, remove eyes and closed ones).
Usage: Decoct until liquid and oil merge, use to moisten the throat.
Huangqin Tang (Scutellaria Decoction): Treats wind-heat pathogenic factors lodging in the Lung Meridian, attacking upwards to the throat, causing Qi congestion, swelling, pain, and aphonia.
Herbs: Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, de-blackened, 1.5 liang), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus, pulp removed, bran-fried, 1.5 liang), Shengma ( Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 1 liang), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis, crushed, 1 liang), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix).
Usage: Coarsely crush and sieve.
Xingren Jian (Apricot Kernel Decoction): Treats sudden cough leading to loss of voice and inability to speak.
Herbs: Xingren (Armeniacae Semen, skin and tip removed, pounded, 3 liang), Sangbaipi (Mori Cortex, 1.5 liang each), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, juice taken), Fengmi (Mel, 1.5 liang each), Baitang (Saccharum, 1.5 liang each), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis), Beimu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus).
Usage: Decoct in water.
Xiaoxuming Tang (Minor Continuation of Life Decoction): Treats sudden throat closure, inability to speak.
Herbs: Fangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried), Baishaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen), Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma, 1 liang each), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, 0.5 liang).
Usage: Decoct in water, take warm.

Herbs: Danshen (Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, or Cinnabaris in some versions), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Xionghuang (Realgar, finely ground), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen, soaked in water, skin and tip removed, double-kernel, bran-fried until slightly yellow), Guijiu (Podophylli Fructus), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried until slightly yellow).
Usage: Form into pills. Increase dosage as needed.
Indications: Sore throat and swelling, Spleen and Lung toxicity obstruction, aphonia. Suitable for this prescription. [from *Shenghui Fang*]
Another set of herbs: Mutong (Akebiae Caulis, 1 liang, crushed), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen, 3 fen, soaked in water, skin and tip removed, double-kernel, bran-fried until slightly yellow), Changpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma, 3 fen), Chuanshengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 3 fen), Lingyangjiao (Saigae Tataricae Cornu).
Usage: Take 3 qian per dose, decoct in water.
Shegan Tang (Belamcanda Decoction): Treats wind-heat pathogenic factors lodging and attacking the Spleen and Lung meridians, causing blood vessel congestion, throat gate swelling and pain, and aphonia.
Herbs: Shegan (Belamcandae Rhizoma), Ziwan (Astelis Radix, seedlings and soil removed), Kua Donghua (Asteris Flos, 1.5 liang each), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, roots and joints removed, 2 liang), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, seedlings and leaves removed), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus, fried).
Usage: Decoct until concentrated.
Fasheng San (Voice-Emitting Powder) [from *Yuyao Yuan Fang*]: Treats aphonia, chest fullness, shortness of breath, salivation, cough, asthma, chest oppression, and throat choking sensation.
Herbs: Sangbaipi (Mori Cortex, 1 liang each), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 1 liang each), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix, 1 liang each), Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma, 1 liang each), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Madouling (Aristolochiae Radix), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix, 0.5 liang each).
Usage: Powder the above herbs finely. Take 1 qian per dose.
Indications: Sore throat and swelling, hoarseness, and aphonia. [from *Shenghui Fang*]
Another set of herbs: Shengjiangzhi (Zingiberis Juice, 2 he), Shengdihuangzhi (Rehmanniae Juice, 3 he), Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus, powder, 0.5 liang), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen, 1 liang, soaked in water, skin and tip removed, double-kernel, bran-fried until slightly yellow).
Usage: Grind into a paste.
Indications: Treats impaired voice due to throat injury.
Another Formula: Jiu (Wine), Su (Butyrum), 1 sheng each; Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, 2.5 liang, powder); Tongcao (Tetrapanacis Medulla), Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Shichangpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma, 2 liang each, powder).
Usage: Mix and harmonize. Take one bi per dose. Three times daily.
Indications: Treats aphonia.
Another Formula: Yan Cu (Strong Vinegar), Shengjiangzhi (Zingiberis Juice), Ziran Tong (Natural Pyrite), She Xian Cao (Patriniae Herb), Muma Ma Cao (possibly *Polygonum aviculare* or similar).
Usage: Equal parts, powder them. Use a reed tube to blow the powder into the throat. Immediate effect.
Changpu Wan (Acorus Pill) [from *Shenghui Fang*]: Treats sore throat and swelling, aphonia.
Herbs: Changpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma, 2 liang), Kong Gong Nie (likely *Drynariae Rhizoma* or specific mineral/herb, finely ground, 1 liang), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis, crushed, 2 liang), Zaojiao (Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus, one stick one chi long, black skin removed, coated with butter, roasted until black-yellow, seeds removed).
Usage: Powder the above herbs. Mix with refined honey to form pills the size of wax gourd seeds. Take 20–30 pills per dose, swallow with Guijianyu (Sabinae Ramulus et Folium) decoction. No fixed time.
Jingjie Tang (Schizonepeta Decoction, also known as Sanshen Tang) [from *Sanyin Fang*]: Treats wind-heat Lung congestion, sore throat and swelling, aphonia. Sensation of a foreign body stuck in the throat, worsening pain upon swallowing.
Herbs: Jingjisui (Schizonepetae Spica, 0.5 liang), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried, 1 liang), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix, 2 liang).

Chusheng San (Voice-Releasing Powder, also known as Hezi Tang) [from *Weisheng Baojian*]: Treats Lung deficiency aphonia.
Herbs: Hezi (Chebulae Fructus, four, half raw half cooked), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 2 liang, raw and cooked; some versions use 0.5 liang), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix, 1 liang).
Usage: Powder the above herbs. Take 2 qian each time, using urine from a young boy...
Xingren Wan (Apricot Kernel Pill) [from *Shenghui Fang*]: Treats aphonic cough, throat itching and pain, loss of voice, and inability to speak.
Herbs: Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen, 18 zhu, soaked in water, skin and tip removed, fried).
Usage: Powder the above herbs. Mix with honey to form pills the size of apricot kernels. Wrap in new cotton, hold in mouth occasionally, swallow juice slowly.
Treatment for severe throat Bi swelling and aphonia. [from *Shenghui Fang*]
Usage: Take 3 he of Malin Gen (Iris Root) juice, mix with 1 he of white honey. Decoct slowly over low heat into an ointment. Swallow slowly. Five to seven times a day. Another version uses half a sheng of seeds, drink it.
Huaihua Fang (Locust Flower Prescription) [from *Wei Shi Fang*]: Treats loss of voice.
Usage: Take Locust Flowers, roast until fragrant on a new tile. After midnight (third watch), lie supine on bed, eat as desired. Also treats hemoptysis. Cong Yanwen personally took it with effective results.
Guixin San (Cinnamon Twig Powder): Treats loss of voice. If caused by Yang-pattern Cold Damage, do not use. Must examine the syndrome before use; only for Yin-pattern Cold Damage.
Usage: Crush Cinnamon Twig. Take 3 qian per dose, two sheng of water, decoct to one sheng. Take warm after meals. Another version uses powder, place under tongue and gradually swallow juice.
Baiji San (Bletilla Powder): Treats muteness.
Usage: Take one pig lung, several slices of ginger. Boil until cooked, slice. Baiji (Bletillae Rhizoma), 20 wen, powder it. Dip the lung slices in the powder and eat.

Usage: Take five liang of Tangerine Peel, three sheng of water. Boil to obtain one sheng, remove dregs. Take all at once.

Treatment for aphonia with sensation of foreign body obstruction.
Usage: Use Jingjie Tang adding Jingjie.
Treatment for sudden wind-stroke aphonia.
Usage: Take good fresh pear, press to get one he of juice. Take all at once, voice will clear immediately. Take twice daily, stop when cured.
Method to restore good voice.
Usage: Take one sheng of Apricot Kernels, remove skin and tips. One liang of butter, little honey. Form pills the size of wax gourd seeds. Take on empty stomach, fifteen pills with rice soup.
Zengsun Rusheng San (Modified Like-Sage Powder): Treats wind-heat attacking the epiglottis from Heart and Lung, causing aphonia, throat oppression, fullness, swelling, and pain. All are suitable for this.

Usage: Take half a sheng of Dou Chi (Fermented Soybean), two sheng of water. Decoct, remove dregs. Divide into two doses. Take sequentially while slightly warm. Induce sweating. Cure.
Da Fu Fang (Major Supplementary Formula): Treats severe swelling and pain, aphonia, and throat Bi toxic gases, where the throat gate is closed and swallowing is impossible.
Usage: Take one large Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root), process until cracked. Peel and cut like beans. Hold one piece in mouth and swallow juice. Cure within half a meal interval. Wutou (Aconitum Carmandii Root) is also acceptable. Avoid pork.
Tongsheng Wan (Voice-Conducting Pill): Treats cold pathogens lodging in the Lung Meridian, causing throat blockage, aphonia, cough, and emotional distress (worry, fear, anger) leading to closed and stagnant Qi pathways, chest fullness, and shortness of breath.
Herbs: Shichangpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma), Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Qing Jupi (Green Tangerine Peel, equal parts), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, half branch).
Usage: Powder the above herbs. Mix with honey to form pills. Each liang makes ten pills.
Yufen Wan (Jade Powder Pill): Treats winter cold phlegm accumulation, throat disharmony, and aphonia.
Herbs: Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, washed, 5 qian), Caowutou (Aconitum Carmandii Root, one zi, fried), Gui (Cinnamon, one zi).
Usage: Powder together. Soak in fresh Ginger Juice, mix with biscuit dough to form pills, like chicken... like mute...
Ganjie Tang (Licorice and Platycodon Decoction): Treats sore throat.
Usage: Take one liang of Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), two liang of Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma). Decoct in water. Take after meals.
Treatment for throat. If no heat-induced sore throat, but throat closure.
Usage: Use spicy Cinnamon, Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) in equal parts. Chew/crush. Decoct in water until half remains. Wait until cool, sip slowly.
Formula to produce voice.
Herbs: Hezi (Chebulae Fructus, processed, pitted), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis, 1 liang each), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 0.5 liang).
