Dispels dampness and cold, unblocks meridians (for chronic cold conditions, exposing the body to sunlight harmonizes the blood and eliminates disease. In winter, old silk fabrics sun-dried to absorb solar yang energy can be covered on the body to drive away illness). Tonifies spleen and stomach (fermented paste sun-dried absorbs abundant solar qi; consuming it tonifies the spleen and stomach). Long-term use promotes longevity (health preservationists have methods of ingesting solar light).
Expels "Fushi" (latent corpse-qi/ghostly diseases) (Chen Zijing noted in his health preservation commentary: "Huoyang" is the essence of meteors; when it enters the earth, any latent corpse-qi in that area will disperse). Enhances willpower and mental acuity. ("Tandao Lu" records a method for preparing "Star Essence Rice": white rice is exposed to starlight and moonlight for one hundred days to receive stellar essence; children who eat it often become smarter, gain spiritual intelligence, and ward off evil and malaria.)
Eliminates plagues and repels the irregular qi of the four seasons. The official in charge of fire administration in the *Rites of Zhou* changed fires in the four seasons to save people from seasonal epidemics, referring to this practice. Kills spirits and demons. For all kinds of mountain goblins, tree monsters, and ancient spirit demons, one must use thousand-year-old cypress wood; ordinary fire should not be used to ignite them, but rather fire must be obtained by drilling wood according to specific times.
Shen Yun in *Shi Zuan* states: Fire from elm and willow assists the qi of health preservation, benefits the liver and gallbladder, and regulates sinews and vessels; fire from jujube and apricot dissipates excessive luxuriant qi, nourishes heart blood, and opens the spirit; fire from oak gathers dissipating qi, inherits pure primordial essence, benefits the lungs, nourishes the root source, restrains yang, and consolidates marrow; fire from locust and sandalwood tonifies the kidneys, benefits yin blood, harmonizing the whole body and ensuring smooth circulation throughout; fire from mulberry and Chinese tallow tree tonifies the spleen and stomach, and strengthens true yuan.
Suitable for acupuncture and moxibustion for various diseases, as stone contains yin within yang, possessing the wonder of the Supreme Ultimate (Taiji). Zhang Shiwan considered fire taken from stone as "Yin Fire," claiming it is unsuitable for moxibustion with mugwort, asserting that fire taken from the sun mirror (Yang Sui) is "Yang Fire" and suitable for moxibustion. He did not realize that although stone is a yin substance, it cannot take form without the accumulation of true fire. All stones contain fire; firestones have more fire and are easier to obtain than other stones because they uniquely receive intense solar qi. Stone is yin and fire is yang; fire must be struck out. Stones with abundant fire may even make a cracking sound, whereas yin fire produces no sound. Therefore, Li Binhu classified it as Earth's Yang Fire, while Zhang Shiwan regarded it as Yin Fire, which is undoubtedly a narrow-minded view.
