Qi stagnation leads to the formation of dampness; dampness ascends, hence the swelling of the face and eyes. Zi Zhong (pregnancy edema) presents with swelling in the head and face; Zi Man (pregnancy hydrops) presents with swelling throughout the body; Zi Qi (pregnancy lower limb edema) presents with swelling in the lower body.

Earth fails to overcome Water; Water clashes with Blood, scattering into the four limbs, leading to generalized swelling and fullness, tightness in the lower abdomen, and difficult urination. Use Liyu Tang (Carp Decoction), Zexie San (Alisma Powder). [Reference: Harmonizing Formulas No. 7, Draining Formulas No. 1.]
Damp-Heat edema in the lower body. Use Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction), adding Shanzhi (Gardenia Fruit) and Fuling (Poria). [Reference: Tonifying Formulas No. 6.]

External invasion by Wind pathogen. Use Zisu Yin (Perilla Leaf Infusion), removing Renshen (Ginseng Root) and Bai Shao (White Peony Root), adding Huoxiang (Patchouli Herb). [Reference: Dispersing Formulas No. 3.]
The constitution originally possessed Wind-Dampness. After three months of pregnancy, the dorsum of both feet becomes swollen, walking is difficult, panting and chest oppression resemble Hydrops syndrome, and yellow fluid oozes from between the toes; this is termed Zi Qi. Do not treat it as a Water Disease; it will resolve naturally after delivery.
Middle Qi fails to ascend and emerge. One should soothe and regulate the stagnation; use Tianxian Teng San (Tetrastigme Vine Powder). [Reference: Dispersing Formulas No. 5.]
Lower Yuan (Kidney and Mingmen) deficiency combined with Wind pathogen. One should nourish Blood and move Qi; use Wuyao Shunqi Tang (Lindera Root Decoction for Smooth Qi) with modifications. [Reference: Dispersing Formulas No. 6.]
The tongue is the sprout of the Heart; the Lung governs voice. The Lung and Kidney are mother-child organs. The Heart, Lung, and Kidney can all cause aphonia. If aphonia occurs at nine months of pregnancy, it is because the collateral vessels of the Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel) connect to the Kidney. The Shaoyin (Lesser Yin) channel penetrates the Kidney and ascends to connect with the root of the tongue. Collateral obstruction causes speech without sound. After delivery, voice returns naturally; no treatment is needed.
Heart Fire overcoming Lung Metal. One should descend the Fire of Shaoyin.
Heart and Kidney insufficiency. One should tonify Shaoyin.
Phlegm-Saliva obstructing collaterals. One should clear Phlegm-Fluids.
