Buzhong Yiqi Tang (See Laojuan section.) Sijunzi Tang (See Xulao section.)
Erchen Tang (See Tanyin section.) Siwu Tang (See Biniu section.)
Qingyang Buzhi Tang (Li Dongyuan's formula) In spring of the Wushen year, Zhao Jun, the Commissioner, aged seventy, suffered from body heat and numbness, weakness in thighs and knees, sweating during meals, irrational laughter, polyphagia, difficulty expectorating phlegm, stiff tongue and difficulty speaking, hoarse voice, and body heaviness like a mountain. He sought treatment from my late master. The pulse on the left hand was surging, large, and forceful, indicating pathogenic heat lodged in the meridians. There were several scars on the outer arms. Upon inquiry, he replied they were caused by burning incense. My late master said: "Your illness stems from this." The twelve meridians irrigate the whole body, completing cycles. The three Yang meridians of the hand ascend from the hand to the head. With the addition of Fire pathogen, Yang merges with Yang, and the momentum is extremely fierce. Thus, pathogenic heat and toxin flow and scatter throughout the body, causing heat and numbness. *Zhenjing* states: "Heat in the Stomach causes worms to move; moving worms cause the Stomach to relax; relaxed Stomach opens Lianquan, thus saliva flows." Heat damages Yuan Qi, causing heaviness and weakness. Food enters the Stomach, its pungent and vigorous qi does not follow normal pathways, hence excessive sweating. Excessive Heart Fire causes irrational laughter; Stomach-Spleen heat causes digestion and polyphagia; declining Lung Metal causes hoarseness. Zhang Zhongjing said: "With a slight and rapid pulse, moxibustion must be avoided; otherwise, bones will be scorched and tendons injured, and blood difficult to restore." You nourished yourself with rich foods and unnecessarily added great toxicity. Heat damaging the meridians clearly caused this illness. *Neijing* states: "When heat dominates excessively, treat with bitter-cold, assist with bitter-sweet, drain with sweet, and astringe with sour." Use Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) and Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), bitter-cold, as Sovereign herbs to drain fire pathogen and strengthen sinews and bones. Since the Kidney desires firmness, urgently eat bitter to firm it. Huangqi (Astragali Radix) and Sheng Gancao (Raw Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), sweet-cold, drain heat and tonify the exterior; Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus), sour, stops sweating and tonifies insufficient Lung Qi, serving as Minister. Zhigancao (Prepared Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) and Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), sweet-pungent, harmonize blood and moisten dryness; Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) and Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), bitter-neutral, circulate through Shaoyang and Yangming meridians, ascending from earth to heaven, using bitter to vent, serving as Assistant. Crush and decoct together, take clear juice. Additionally, perform Mu Ci (counter-stimulation) on the four limbs to drain the root of all Yang meridians, connecting the twelve meridians, draining fire pathogen, and achieving recovery within ten days.

Take half a bowl of cooked white rice, add four qian of herb powder, cook slowly with rice into a thin porridge, not thick. Add one tea-foot of ginger juice and three large spoons of white honey, stir well. Best taken warm on empty stomach. If dampness invades, add two qian of Yiyiren powder, increase rice to one medium bowl, cook and take. This porridge greatly treats inability to move hands/feet/limbs and heavy pain preventing lifting. Those with these symptoms should take it preventively. Zuo Shi said: "Wind invading extremities causes disease." Extremities refer to the four limbs. Spleen governs four limbs. Wind pathogen lodging in Liver overacts on Spleen; Spleen is controlled by Liver, thus disease is in extremities. Grain qi guides wind-warming herbs directly into Spleen meridian, thus four limbs find peace. This decoction is very effective. I once formulated this for others, and users reported excellent results.
