Sour in taste, cold in nature, slightly toxic. Primarily treats carbuncles and malignant sores, as well as sores on the backs of donkeys and horses, and axillary odor (fox odor). Grind the ore with water on a stone to obtain juice and apply it topically. For carbuncles, grind into powder and apply to the sore; this is effective. Current notes from other editions state: It resembles Jiangshi (Ginger Stone) but contains copper stars, and copper can be extracted by smelting. (Originally attached to Xinxiu Bencao / New Revised Materia Medica)
Primarily treats difficult childbirth in women, blood obstruction, amenorrhea, and blockage of Yin and Yang qi mechanisms. Tao Hongjing states: This is what people currently use as arrowheads for shooting. Take one, heat it until red-hot, place it in wine, drink the juice; imitating the ancients, it is considered more effective. Chen Yuxi et al., carefully according to Rihua Zi's records and Shenghui Fang: A prescription for treating children who have swallowed pearls or coins causing choking: Heat the bronze crossbow trigger until red-hot, place it in water, wait for it to cool, then drink the juice; the foreign object will be expelled immediately. Qianjin Fang records: It facilitates easy delivery.
Jinxing Shi (Venus Stone), cold in nature, non-toxic. Primarily treats toxicity due to stagnation in the Spleen and Lungs, as well as hemoptysis and coughing up blood due to lung damage; guides down hot phlegm/saliva; resolves various toxins. Currently mostly produced in Haozhou. There is also Yinxing Shi (Silver Star Stone), whose therapeutic effects are largely similar to Jinxing Shi. (Newly defined entry)
Tu Jing states: Jinxing Shi grows in Bingzhou and Haozhou. Cold in nature, non-toxic. Primarily treats toxicity due to stagnation in the Spleen and Lungs, as well as bleeding due to lung damage, hemoptysis, guiding down hot phlegm/saliva, and resolving various toxins.
Yan Yi states: Jinxing Shi and Yinxing Shi treat Feng Da Ji (Leprosy/Great Wind Disease). There is another method requiring calcination before use. Jinxing Shi is hidden within Cangshi (Grey Stone), with golden bran-like flakes on the exterior. Yinxing Shi has silver-colored bran-like flakes. There is another type that is deep cyan, hard and moist, containing golden bran-like flakes inside; this is not used in medicine but is ground by craftsmen into vessels or worn as jewelry by women. The rest is as described in Tu Jing.
Sweet in taste, warm in nature, toxic. Primarily improves vision, benefits hearing, eliminates extreme cold in the abdomen, breaks up hard accumulations and shulou (scrofula/lymphatic tuberculosis), kills hundred insects and fierce beasts. Long-term consumption prolongs life. Also known as Cangshi, also known as Shudu. Produced in the Western Regions. No specific time for collection. (Fire-refined is superior; fears water.)
Tao Hongjing states: Those found in old stork nests are the best, because storks often enter cold water, so they are used to fill nests to keep them warm. These are no longer available. Only those produced in Hanzhong are used now; their exterior is purple-red, interior white like frost, with a central mortar-like depression; those shaped like teeth are excellent. Dasang Fang states: Also produced in Fangling County, Xincheng Commandery, Jingzhou Prefecture; pale white is considered good. When used, wrap in yellow earth and fire for one day first; alternatively, place in an axe hole and fire; combine with pills such as Yuhu Wan. Xian Jing does not mention Teseng; thus, it is merely the Baishi (White Stone) mentioned previously. Xinxiu Bencao note states: What Tao Hongjing describes as Teseng refers to those with a tooth-mortar shape in the center; these are currently produced in Liangzhou, and also found in the streams at Beima Dao Shu Jian. The lumps are smaller than Baishi, but the granular texture is several times larger, resembling mung beans. Baishi granules are fine, like millet grains.
The content of Tu Jing is detailed under the entry for [Missing Character] Shi.
