When pathogenic factors invade the collaterals of the Foot-Shaoyang (Gallbladder) Meridian, it causes hypochondriac pain, coughing, and sweating. When Yin Qi strikes the Liver, and Cold Qi lodges in the vessels, blood becomes stagnant and vessels become tense, drawing pain from the hypochondrium to the lower abdomen.
Upon pulse diagnosis, if the pulse is wiry and rapid, with hypochondriac pain feeling like a knife stab, resembling the condition known as "Flying Corpse" (Fei Shi, a severe condition characterized by sudden onset and wandering pain), the patient will be critically ill but not die. If the left-hand pulse is large and the right-hand pulse is small, it indicates pain under the right hypochondrium. If both sides of the Cun Kou (Radial Artery at the wrist) pulse are wiry, there is tension and tightness under the hypochondrium, and the person feels chilly and shivering. Regarding treatments using decoctions, hot compresses, moxibustion, and acupuncture/stone therapy, there are separate specific formulas; methods for tonification, nourishment, and Daoyin (guiding and pulling exercises) are attached hereafter.
The *Yangsheng Fang · Daoyin Fa* states: For sudden left-sided hypochondriac pain, visualize the Liver as the Azure Dragon, the Hun Spirit in the left eye, leading thousands of chariots and cavalry from the Five Camps, accompanied by the Zhi Fu Li (Official of Direct Command) of Jia Yin, entering the right hypochondrium to remove the disease.
It also states: For right-sided hypochondriac pain, visualize the Lungs as the White Tiger, the Po Spirit in the right eye, leading thousands of chariots and cavalry from the Five Camps, accompanied by the Zhi Fu Li of Jia Shen, entering the right hypochondrium to remove the disease.
Lie on your side towards the affected hypochondrium, extend your arms and straighten your legs. Inhale through the nose and exhale through the mouth. This removes pain in the skin of the hypochondrium. Stop after seven breaths.
It also states: Sit upright, straighten the waist, look back to the right with the eyes. Inhale through the mouth and swallow thirty times. This removes left-sided hypochondriac pain. Then open the eyes.
It also states: Raise hands and cross them above the neck, gripping tightly and stretching to the limit. This treats pain under the hypochondrium. Sit on the ground, cross hands and grip tightly, pulling backwards. Practicing this for a long time makes the body solid as diamond, regulating the breath to be long and smooth, like wind and clouds, or like thunder.
Xiao Ke (Wasting and Thirsting Syndrome) is characterized by unquenchable thirst and frequent urination. It arises from having taken pills and powders containing the "Five Minerals" (Wu Shi) in youth. Over years, the mineral nature accumulates and knots in the Kidneys, causing deficiency-heat in the Lower Jiao. As one ages and Qi and Blood diminish, they can no longer control the mineral influence. The mineral force becomes dominant, drying out the Kidneys, thus causing water intake without normal urination. Complications often include carbuncles and sores, caused by heat qi lingering in the meridians without dispersal, leading to stagnation and obstruction of Qi and Blood, forming pus.
Pulse diagnosis: A rapid and large pulse indicates survival; a fine, small, and floating pulse indicates death. A deep and small pulse indicates survival; a firm, solid, and large pulse indicates death.
If a patient complains of a sweet taste in the mouth, what is this disease called and how does it arise? This is the overflow of the five organ essences, named Pi Dan (Spleen Heat/Dampness). Flavors enter the mouth and are stored in the Stomach, while the Spleen distributes their essence. If essence overflows in the Spleen, it causes a sweet taste in the mouth; this originates from rich and fatty foods. Such people must frequently eat sweet and fatty foods. Fatty foods cause internal heat, and sweet foods cause fullness in the middle jiao. Thus, the essence overflows upward, transforming into Xiao Ke.
In diseases of the Jueyin (Liver/Pericardium) channel, Xiao Ke is severe, accompanied by heart pain, hunger without desire to eat, and in severe cases, vomiting roundworms. Regarding treatments using decoctions, hot compresses, moxibustion, and acupuncture/stone therapy, there are separate specific formulas; methods for tonification, nourishment, and Daoyin are attached hereafter.
The *Yangsheng Fa* states: Do not sleep with the mouth open; doing so for a long time leads to Xiao Ke and loss of luster in the complexion.
Chisongzi in the *Yangsheng Fang · Daoyin Fa* states: Lie down, close the eyes, and practice breath retention/circulation twelve times to treat indigestion.
The method states: Undress and lie down, straighten the waist, and massage the lower abdomen. Stop after five breaths. This guides Kidney Qi, eliminates Xiao Ke, and benefits Yin and Yang. Undressing prevents clothing obstruction. Lying down eliminates external thoughts, allowing Qi to flow easily. Straightening the waist prevents compression of the Kidneys. Massaging the lower abdomen involves straining to fill the lower abdomen with Qi, then drawing the abdomen inward to pull Qi upward, coordinated with breathing. Guiding the Kidney means guiding fluids like water to the throat to moisten the upper part, removing the dryness of Xiao Ke. Benefiting Yin and Yang increases physical strength. Those who are deficient should observe seasonal taboos. Do not perform Daoyin immediately after eating or when extremely hungry, as this harms the body. Also avoid inauspicious days and periods of climatic imbalance. After Daoyin, walk 120 steps, up to 1,000 steps, before eating. Dietary rules: avoid extreme cold and hot foods; harmonize the five flavors. Do not eat stale, spoiled, leftover food, or insect remnants. Chew food thoroughly and swallow slowly. Do not sleep immediately after eating. This is called "Grain Medicine"; harmonizing with Qi makes it true good medicine.
