465. Beiye Gao (Leaf Paste): Treats all ulcerating carbuncles and toxic sores such as Dui Kou Ju (carbuncle at the nape of the neck), Fa Bei Ju (carbuncle on the back), and Yu Kou Chu (perianal abscess). Its efficacy is identical to that of Bai You Gao (White Oil Paste) used on the legs. It has been tested repeatedly with miraculous results. Take one jin (approx. 500g) of pure sesame oil and a ball of tangled hair the size of a chicken egg. Place the hair in the oil and melt it over low heat, then filter out the dregs. Add two liang (approx. 60g) of white beeswax and melt it. Dip paper into the oil, remove it, and dip again until the oil is fully absorbed by the paper. The papers should be placed separately from each other and cooled in the wind for one day. Apply to the affected area; pus will adhere to the paper shortly after application. Change more than ten times a day. After a few days, when the pus is exhausted, new flesh will grow.
466. Gexian Shengjun San (Gexian Shengjun Powder): Treats all hot-fire sores and boils, whether broken or not, characterized by redness, swelling, and burning pain. It is highly effective. Grind raw Rhubarb (Da Huang) with good vinegar to make a juice for external application. Replace whenever it dries. Contraindicated if the skin color remains unchanged (indicating non-heat conditions).
467. Fanla Wan (Alum and Beeswax Pill): This is an excellent medicine for expelling toxins, disinfecting, strengthening internal organs, and relieving pain. It is most suitable for consumption after any carbuncle or toxic sore has ulcerated. If there are lung or intestinal abscesses, or sores all over the body resembling snake heads, this formula also has the effect of draining pus and supporting the interior. Take three liang (approx. 90g) of alum, finely ground, and two liang (approx. 60g) of yellow beeswax. First melt the wax off the fire, add the alum, stir evenly, and quickly roll into pills with multiple people. Make them the size of Sophora japonica seeds. If delayed, they will harden and become difficult to shape. Take the white pills three times daily on an empty stomach with wine. Avoid eating chicken meat for three months.
Key Points on Yin Abscesses:
Yin Abscess (Yin Ju) is a disease name. Wang Hongxu stated: "Symptoms of Yin Toxin all present with unchanged skin color, but there are differences between swollen and non-swollen, painful and non-painful, hard and immovable versus soft like cotton. These must be distinguished." Swelling without hardness and unbearable pain indicates Liu Zhu (Flowing Deposit). Swelling that is hard with slight pain indicates Tie Gu Ju (Bone-Adhering Carbuncle), He Xi Feng (Crane Knee Wind), Heng Xuan (Transverse Struma), and Gu Cao Feng (Bone Trough Wind). Non-swollen but painful with numbness in bones and joints and insensitivity in hands and feet indicates Wind-Dampness. Hard like a kernel, initially painless, indicates Ru Yan (Breast Cancer) and Luo Li (Scrofula). Painless but hard, large as a fist, indicates E He (Evil Kernel) and Shi Rong (Loss of Glory). Painless, not hard, soft and gradually enlarging indicates Ying Liu (Goiter). Painless but hard, shaped like metal or stone, large as a dou or sheng (measures), indicates Shi Ju (Stone Carbuncle). All these syndromes belong to Yin Deficiency. Regardless of being flat or large, if the toxin originates from the five Zang organs, it is called Yin Abscess. If painful, it is easy to dissipate. If painless upon heavy pressure and hard, the toxin root is deep and solid, difficult to dissipate, and treatment cannot be delayed.
The initial appearance of Yin Abscess is wide, flat, with a scattered base, no swelling, no pain, and dull color. This is the most dangerous type of Yin Abscess. If cold-natured medicines are mistakenly taken, the color will turn like pig liver, the toxin will attack the internal organs, leading to coma and death. A dull and scattered color indicates deficiency of both Qi and Blood. Painlessness and flatness indicate condensation of toxin and phlegm. Without using Yanghe Tang (Yang-Nourishing Decoction), how can the interior be opened and condensation resolved?
668. Shi Ju (Stone Carbuncle): Initially, a single nodule appears, gradually enlarging to the size of a fist, hard as stone. Urgently administer Yanghe Tang (Yang-Nourishing Decoction) alternating with Xi Huang Wan (Rhino Horn Pill); it can dissipate. If delayed until it is as large as a dou or sheng, still hard as stone and painless, and red veins appear after a long time, it is incurable. If patches appear and ulcerate, bleeding within three days after ulceration leads to death. If green veins appear, it is still treatable. Internally take Yanghe Tang (Yang-Nourishing Decoction); externally apply mashed fresh Phytolacca radix (Shang Lu Gen) mixed with a little salt. After a few days, itching occurs; after half a month, the skin wrinkles. Daily application softens the mass; when a pus sac hangs down, puncture it with a silver needle. Internally take Qianjin Tuoli San (Thousand-Year Support-Interior Powder) with four liang (approx. 120g) of Prepared Rehmannia Root (Shu Di Huang) and raw Astragalus Root (Sheng Huang Qi) decocted in water. After ten doses, apply Yangjie Xiaoning Gao (Yang-Resolving and Stasis-Dissipating Plaster), leaving the puncture site exposed. Bind tightly with cloth to ensure the skin membrane remains connected. Internally take Shiquan Dabu Tang (Ten-Ingredient Great Tonifying Decoction) to conclude treatment. If toxin qi is not exhausted, avoid tonifying agents. This is a secret method of Linwu Shanren. Treat Shi Rong (Loss of Glory) similarly.
469. E He (Evil Kernel): E He is also caused by cold-phlegm condensation with the deepest toxin root, yet it does not easily ulcerate. Both internal and external treatments must avoid cold-natured substances. Internally, alternate Yanghe Tang (Yang-Nourishing Decoction) and Xi Huang Wan (Rhino Horn Pill) to dissipate it. Externally apply mashed apple snails. Incision is strictly contraindicated. Internally use warm-tonifying, toxin-expelling, and phlegm-resolving agents; Xi Huang Wan (Rhino Horn Pill) can achieve success.
470. Duo Gu Ju (Multi-Bone Carbuncle): After various sores discharge pus for a long time without healing, there must be excess bone inside. Use Tui Che San (Cartoon-Pushing Powder). The formula uses dung beetles (commonly known as cart-pushing insects or poop-pushing insects), roasted and ground to an extremely fine powder. Mix one qian (approx. 3g) of this powder with five fen (approx. 1.5g) of dried ginger powder. It must be ground as fine as flour. Insert into the wound hole. The bone will naturally exude the next day; once the bone is gone, it heals itself. One patient had a large piece of bone growing in a sore; he was cured by grinding old rotten coffin board wood into powder, rolling it in paper, burning it to smoke, and fumigating the area. Another method: grind Litharge (Mituo Seng) into powder, mix with thick tung oil, spread on cloth, and apply; this is very effective.
471. Fu Gu Ju (Bone-Adhering Carbuncle): Fu Gu Ju arises on the outer thigh, also known as Tie Gu Ju (Bone-Adhering Carbuncle) or Suo Jiao Ju (Leg-Shrinking Carbuncle). Initially, there is no heat or redness; severely, it feels like a cone piercing the flesh, making flexion, extension, and rotation difficult. Over time, cold stagnates and transforms into heat, eventually suppurating without a head. The skin color remains unchanged but gradually reveals a bright red spot, indicating internal pus formation. Ulceration leads to recovery. It is very difficult to cure. Method: Grind white mustard seeds (Bai Zi Zi) into powder, mix with liquor for external application; or mix powders of Kansui Root (Da Ji) and Sweet Vernal Grass (Gan Sui) with white honey for external application. Internally take Yanghe Tang (Yang-Nourishing Decoction). One dose per day, divided into four or five servings, can dissipate it. Afterwards, take Zi Long Wan (Dragon Egg Pill) to prevent recurrence. Incision is contraindicated; doing so will certainly cause leg-shrinking disability. This is a secret formula of Linwu Shanren.
472. Sheng Gu Ju (Remaining Bone Carbuncle): Also known as Xiu Gu Ju (Rotten Bone Carbuncle). It mostly occurs on the cheeks, palate, gums, under the eyes, hands, feet, legs, and arms. Its symptoms are roughly the same as Fu Gu Ju (Bone-Adhering Carbuncle). It is also a Yin syndrome; treat according to the methods for Fu Gu Ju.
473. Liu Zhu (Flowing Deposit): Liu Zhu appears anywhere without fixed location, like lumps or kernels, diffuse swelling without a head, unchanged skin color, either painful or painless. After a long time, it breaks and spreads. One must recognize the symptom of swelling without hardness and unbearable pain. If suddenly bumps appear on the body, red, swollen, and wandering, it is called You Feng Dan Du (Wandering Red Poisonous Carbuncle). This is different and should not be mistaken for Liu Zhu. This syndrome involves toxin originating in the Yin aspect due to phlegm blocking the clear pathways, with Qi and Blood deficiency and cold condensation. It is categorized as Cold-Phlegm or Qi-Toxin. Initially, use Er Chen Tang (Two-Chen Decoction) decocted together with Yanghe Wan (Yang-Nourishing Pills); several doses will completely dissipate it. After dissipation, continue taking Xiao Jin Dan (Small Golden Pellet) seven pills to prevent recurrence. If the skin color changes slightly and is extremely painful and unbearable, take Yanghe Tang (Yang-Nourishing Decoction) to stop the pain, allowing formed pus to break without pain. This is a method of turning a large carbuncle into a small one. If the affected area becomes slightly soft, puncture with a needle; the pus will be mostly white. Apply Yangjie Xiaoning Gao (Yang-Resolving and Stasis-Dissipating Plaster). However, after this syndrome breaks, the toxin-phlegm flows away, causing varied lesions. Therefore, within five days after initial breaking, continue taking Xiao Jin Dan (Small Golden Pellet) ten pills to prevent future complications. Then alternate Xi Huang Wan (Rhino Horn Pill) and Yanghe Tang (Yang-Nourishing Decoction) morning and evening to exhaust the toxin-phlegm. Even without tonification, success is certain. Tested repeatedly with consistent results.
474. Luo Li (Scrofula): Luo Li is also known as Yang Zi. Small ones are Luo, large ones are Li. There are many names. Those in front of the neck are Tan Luo (Phlegm Scrofula); behind the neck are Shi Luo (Damp Scrofula); those on both sides, soft and swelling upon anger, are Qi Luo (Qi Scrofula); hard with tendon contraction are Jin Luo (Tendon Scrofula); continuous like beads are Luo Li; there are also Ma Dao (Horse Knife) which are long-shaped, Zi Mu Chong Tai (Mother-Child Double Platform), She Pan (Snake Coil), Suo Xiang (Neck-Locking), Feng Wo (Honeycomb), Hui Dai (Hui Bag), Yan Wo (Swallow Nest), Zhua Teng (Claw Vine), Ji Yang, Liu Zhu, Dan Ke (Single Nest), Lian Zi (Lotus Seed), Men Men, and Feng Shi Shu Li. Shapes and names vary, but the pathology stems from phlegm-dampness, wind, heat, and qi-toxin. However, it must be accompanied by resentment, depression, worry, and unfulfilled plans. Initially, apply black tar from tobacco pipes or Fengxian Gao (Impatiens Paste); it dissipates in three days. Repeatedly tested with miraculous effects. (Note: For the wealthy at the initial stage, Xiao He Gao (Nodule-Dissipating Paste) is the most stable and effective.)
475. For Luo Li (Scrofula) that has not ulcerated, use Zi Long Wan (Dragon Egg Pill). Take three qian (approx. 9g) per dose, delivered with light ginger soup. Three times daily. Stop when dissipation ceases. Avoid eating Citrus medica (Xie Yuan), oranges, and tangerines; eating them causes recurrence.
476. For Luo Li (Scrofula) with some ulcerated areas, some forming pus but not yet broken, and some not yet forming pus: Take Xi Huang Wan (Rhino Horn Pill) to stop pain in already ulcerated areas, relieve distension in pus-forming but unbroken areas, and dissipate nodules where pus has not yet formed. For those with formed pus, apply Ya Tou Gao (Head-Biting Paste) to induce rupture. Internally take warm-tonifying, phlegm-resolving, collateral-unblocking, blood-invigorating, and Qi-strengthening medicines. Externally apply Yangjie Xiaoning Gao (Yang-Resolving and Stasis-Dissipating Plaster) for cure.
477. Another method: Take one copper coin and slugs (shell-less snails, commonly known as mucus worms), mash them together until melted by copper heat, and apply. It cures immediately with unparalleled efficacy.
478. Another method: Boil aged vinegar until it forms beads when dropped in water, add one qian (approx. 3g) of raw Pinellia ternata (Sheng Ban Xia) powder, mix well, and apply. Change overnight. Dissipates in two days with miraculous effect.
Another method: Take five qian (approx. 15g) each of Prunella vulgaris (Xia Ku Cao), Honeysuckle (Jin Yin Hua), and Dandelion (Pu Gong Ying). Decoct in wine and water, drink frequently as tea. More effective if applied to the back of the neck.
Another method: Jicheng Huang Dan (Integrated Imperial Pellet) specializes in treating Luo Li (Scrofula) that has ulcerated, involving the chest and armpits with foul odor, persisting for over ten years. The medicine works instantly with miraculous effect. Formula: Take one block of newly kiln-fired lime, dissolve with water into powder, mix with real raw Tung oil to a medium consistency. First wash with scallion and pepper soup, then apply this mixture.
479. Nine-Child Sores (Jiu Zi Yang) appearing in a row on the neck: Take one egg, boil in clean water, remove the yolk, and cut the white into two halves. Sprinkle one fen (approx. 0.3g) of Musk (She Xiang) and five fen (approx. 1.5g) of Borneol (Bing Pian) onto the sores. Starting from the first sore, cover it with one half of the egg white. Outside, burn a large bundle of dry mugwort (Ai Ye) near the egg. Continue until the sores feel intense pain. Burn sequentially from head to tail. Then decoct Dandelion (Pu Gong Ying), Prunella vulgaris (Xia Ku Cao), Honeysuckle (Jin Yin Hua), and Licorice (Gan Cao) in water and take orally. Several doses yield miraculous results.
Formulas for Yin Abscesses:
480. Yanghe Tang (Yang-Nourishing Decoction): Treats Ru Yan (Breast Cancer), Shi Rong (Loss of Glory), Shi Ju (Stone Carbuncle), E He (Evil Kernel), Tan He (Phlegm Nodule), Luo Li (Scrofula), Liu Zhu (Flowing Deposit), Heng Xuan (Transverse Struma), and all Yin abscesses presenting with white color and flat appearance. This is the sacred medicine for Yin Abscess, universally effective. It has never failed. Treasure it. Four liang (approx. 120g) of Prepared Rehmannia Root (Shu Di Huang), three qian (approx. 9g) of Real Deer Antler Glue (Lu Jiao Jiao), one qian (approx. 3g) each of Cinnamon Bark (Rou Gui) and Licorice (Gan Cao), five fen (approx. 1.5g) each of Roasted Ginger (Pao Jiang) and Ephedra Stem (Ma Huang). Decoct in water and take. Drink several cups of good wine after ingestion. Strictly abstain from sexual activity.
481. Xi Huang Wan (Rhino Horn Pill): Treats Shi Ju (Stone Carbuncle), E He (Evil Kernel), Shi Rong (Loss of Glory), Luo Li (Scrofula), Ru Yan (Breast Cancer), Liu Zhu (Flowing Deposit), Heng Xuan (Transverse Struma), Fei Yong (Lung Abscess), Xiao Chang Yong (Small Intestine Abscess). All rotting Yin abscesses. Repeatedly tested with miraculous results. A verified formula with hundred percent accuracy. Processed Frankincense (Ru Xiang) and Processed Myrrh (Mo Yao) one liang (approx. 30g) each, real Musk (She Xiang) and Rhino Horn (Xi Niu Huang) three fen (approx. 0.9g) each. Grind to fine powder. Take one liang (approx. 30g) of yellow rice porridge, mash it, and mix with the medicine powder to form pills the size of millet seeds. Dry in the sun. Avoid roasting. Take three qian (approx. 9g) per dose with aged wine. If the lesion is in the upper body, take before bed; if in the lower body, take on an empty stomach.
482. Zi Long Wan (Dragon Egg Pill) is also known as Kong Xian Dan (Controlling Saliva Pellet). Treats pulling and hooking pain in the head, neck, chest, ribs, back, and waist, moving unpredictably, cold hands and feet, numbness, and blocked pulse. This is due to phlegm-saliva above and below the diaphragm; do not mistake it for wind paralysis. It also treats Qi knot in the throat, feeling like a plum pit, appearing and disappearing intermittently, choking sensation, and nodules all over the body like pomegranates or chestnuts, with unchanged skin color, no pain, only sourness and numbness, or spontaneous ulceration and weeping like saliva. Persisting for years, resembling a tube leak, this is caused by phlegm stagnation in the collaterals. It also treats Luo Li (Scrofula), Yu Kou (Perianal Abscess), Bian Du (Inguinal Abscess), Tie Gu Ju (Bone-Adhering Carbuncle), and all Yin abscesses. Repeatedly tested with miraculous effects. Processed Kansui Root (Gan Sui), boiled through and bone removed; Da Ji (Kansui Root - *Note: Text says Da Ji here but Gan Sui earlier, likely referring to Euphorbia kansui vs Radix Kansui distinction or typo, standard Kong Xian Dan uses both*), avoid fire frying; fried White Mustard Seed (Bai Zi Zi) in equal parts. Grind to powder, refine honey to form pills the size of Sophora japonica seeds. Take three qian (approx. 9g) per dose with light ginger soup. Do not take with Licorice (Gan Cao) medicines on the same day. This formula addresses the root of phlegm. The root of phlegm is water and dampness; combined with Qi and Fire, it becomes phlegm. Da Ji (Euphorbia kansui) can drain water-dampness from Zang-Fu organs. Gan Sui (Radix Kansui) can move water-dampness in collaterals, reaching directly to where water-Qi knots, using attack as its function. Bai Zi Zi (White Mustard Seed) can disperse phlegm-Qi in the interstices and membranes. Only skilled users can achieve miraculous effects.
483. Huiyang Yulong Gao (Return-Yang Jade Dragon Plaster): Treats all Yin abscesses and evil toxins. Applied externally, it stops pain in painful cases and induces pain in painless cases, leading to rapid healing. It also helps heal already broken sores. For all types of Yin abscesses, if previous plasters like Yanghe are insufficient, or if the poor cannot prepare them, this plaster has miraculous effects. For Ru Yan (Breast Cancer) and dangerous Yin abscesses that cannot be healed, Yangjie Xiaoning Gao (Yang-Resolving and Stasis-Dissipating Plaster) is appropriate. Raw Aconite Root (Sheng Cao Wu) three liang (approx. 90g), baked ginger two liang (approx. 60g), fried Angelica Dahurica (Bai Zhi) and raw Arisaema (Sheng Nan Xing) one liang (approx. 30g) each, Cinnamon Bark (Rou Gui) five qian (approx. 15g) (not exposed to direct fire). Grind to powder. Mix with high-quality liquor for external application.
484. Yangjie Xiaoning Gao (Yang-Resolving and Stasis-Dissipating Plaster): Treats all broken Yin abscesses and evil toxins. Its efficacy is like an immortal elixir, rare and valuable, do not underestimate it. It is also effective for malaria and frostbite. Three jin (approx. 1.5kg) of fresh Arctium lappa (Niubangzi) root, leaves, and stems; four liang (approx. 120g) of fresh Impatiens balsamina (Baifenghua) stems. Use ten jin (approx. 5kg) of sesame oil to boil these two ingredients until charred, then filter out dregs. The next day, add Aconite Root (Fu Zi), Cinnamon Twig (Gui Zhi), Rhubarb (Da Huang), Angelica Sinensis (Dang Gui), Cinnamon Bark (Rou Gui), Official Cinnamon (Guan Gui), Raw Aconite (Cao Wu), Sichuan Aconite (Chuan Wu), Earthworm (Di Long), Silkworm (Jiang Can), Red Peony Root (Chi Shao), Angelica Dahurica (Bai Zhi), Ampelopsis japonica (Bai Lian), Bletilla striata (Bai Ji) each two liang (approx. 60g); Ligusticum chuanxiong (Chuan Xiong) four liang (approx. 120g); Dipsacus asper (Xu Duan), Saposhnikovia divaricata (Fang Feng), Schizonepeta tenuifolia (Jing Jie), Trogopterus Dung (Wu Ling Zhi), Costus root (Mu Xiang), Cyperus rotundus (Xiang Fu), Tangerine Peel (Chen Pi) each one liang (approx. 30g). Add all to the oil and boil until charred, filter dregs. Let cool overnight, weigh. For every jin (approx. 500g) of oil, add seven liang (approx. 210g) of calcined lead tetroxide (Huang Dan) thoroughly fried. Stir evenly and simmer over low heat. Boil until it forms beads when dropped in water; the older, the better. Move the oil pot to a cool place. Add processed Frankincense (Ru Xiang) and Processed Myrrh (Mo Yao) powder, two liang (approx. 60g) each, Suhe Xiang Oil (Styrax Oil) four liang (approx. 120g), and Musk (She Xiang) one liang (approx. 30g) finely ground. Mix into the plaster. After half a month, spread and apply. Miraculous for all ulcerating Yin abscesses. Frostbite heals overnight with one application. Ulcerated cases heal with three applications. Malaria: apply to the back. Musk is the most expensive ingredient. If unable to afford preparation, omit during boiling; when using, add a few milligrams of Musk to each patch.
485. Wanying Zijin Gao (Universal Purple Gold Plaster): This plaster can treat hundreds of diseases. A person surnamed Sun in Beijing developed a Luo Tou Ju (Head-Dropping Carbuncle) behind the ear; hundred medicines failed. His head drooped, facing death. After using this medicine for a few days, he recovered. A woman also developed this abscess, ulcerated with maggots, head drooping; she also recovered using this medicine. Other external Yin abscesses cured in this manner are numerous. This formula supplements what Creation's Yin and Yang could not reach, rarely heard in history.
