Scallion White (Cong Bai)
Scallion white is pungent and neutral, capable of dispersing and treating Shanghan (Cold Damage); it relieves forehead pain associated with the Yangming channel and intestinal distension due to dysentery; it dispels wind, reduces swelling, and treats abdominal and heart pain; it unblocks Kidney Qi, harmonizes Liver Qi, and naturally stabilizes the fetus; its substantive nature is pungent and warm, tonifying Middle Jiao Qi; its juice stops epistaxis and hematuria.
"Scallion" implies "empty," as its leaves are hollow inside; only through emptiness can one be wise. Another view states that "scallion" refers to its greenish-white color. Scallion white refers to the stem. It is non-toxic. The qi is strong while the flavor is light; it ascends and belongs to Yang.
It enters the Hand Taiyin Lung Meridian and Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian. It primarily treats Shanghan and Shangfeng (Wind Strike), severe headache as if splitting, joint pain, alternating chills and fever, and sweating. Li Dongyuan stated: It dissipates pathogenic factors causing Yangming headache from Wind Strike and alleviates the suffering of Yangming diarrhea from Shanghan. It also treats facial and ocular edema caused by Zhongfeng (Wind Stroke), obstruction of the throat (Hou Bi), Huoluan (Cholera-like syndrome) with muscle cramps, Ben Tun (Rushing Pig disease), and Xiangjiao (Foot Qi/Beriberi) causing heart and abdominal pain. This herb benefits the joints, unblocks the large and small intestines, promotes Kidney Yang Qi to restore Yang from Yin syndromes, expels Liver pathogenic factors, brightens the eyes, calms the fetus, stops bleeding, harmonizes the middle, benefits the five Zang organs, and detoxifies hundred medicines and all fish/meat poisons. Additionally, crushing the stems and leaves with salt and applying or spraying it treats She Gong Xi Du (aquatic insect poison), centipede bites, Fox Urine Ci (toxic plant/insect injury), snake and insect bites, as well as traumatic injuries and metal wounds (Jin Chuang), preventing water entry that causes cracking and swelling. Generally, its function is dispersion; excessive consumption dulls the spirit and forces Qi upward. Deficient individuals should avoid eating it in the first lunar month, as it may trigger You Feng (wandering wind/rash) on the face. Eating roasted scallion with honey is fatal. Scallion seeds primarily brighten the eyes, warm the middle, tonify deficiencies, and benefit essence. Scallion juice is neutral and primarily treats vomiting, epistaxis, and hematuria. It resolves Lulu (Veratrum) toxicity. Among various types of scallions, the variety that survives winter, propagates by division without seeds, is best for medicinal use.
Garlic (Da Suan)
Garlic is toxic; it attacks carbuncle toxins, repels evil qi, disperses summerheat, stops pain, resolves abdominal accumulation, transforms fish/meat stagnation, and vomits phlegm from Pi accumulations; however, excessive consumption damages the Zang organs and impairs vision.
Consuming it whitens hair and beard, similar to how calculators (those who scheme often) go gray prematurely. Flavor is pungent, nature is warm. It primarily treats painful carbuncles and malignant sores of unknown origin. Take three or four single-clove garlics, crush them, mix with sesame oil, and apply thickly to the swollen area, changing when dry. For all types of tinea, erysipelas, Ding sores, snake/insect/centipede bites, apply crushed garlic externally, or perform moxibustion through garlic slices. It repels damp-evil miasma. For epidemic qi, Gu poison, Lao Nue (chronic malaria), summerheat stroke, and Huoluan with abdominal pain/cramps, chew thoroughly and swallow with warm water. Its nature belongs to Fire and is good at dispersing; it transforms meat food, which is why people enjoy eating it. It breaks cold Qi, resolves Pi accumitions. In the past, patients with Pi accumulation or excessive egg consumption ate three cloves daily; spitting saliva and feeling heat in the lower body indicated efficacy. This substance has a strong fishy/odorous taste; cooked as soup it is delicious, and its smoke is mild. It directs Qi downward, warms the middle, aids digestion, and is ideal for meat stagnation. Vinegar-preserved for a year is superior. Cooked consumption is acceptable, but raw or long-term consumption damages the Liver and eyes, harms the Lungs inducing phlegm, exhausts Kidney Essence, clears Heart Blood, damages Spleen Qi, injures the Spirit in the 4th and 8th months, and depletes Gallbladder and Kidney Qi. Eating it with dark carp causes internal parasites, swelling, or hernia. Those with eye diseases must strictly avoid it. No other substance damages nature and life more severely.

Wild leek is pungent and bitter, stops vomiting and dysentery, calms asthma, disperses water, eliminates nodules; applied externally treats metal wounds, scalds/burns, sores affected by wind-cold, and edema.
"Xie" means "resolve" or "able." Although pungent, wild leek does not offend the Five Zang organs like other pungent vegetables; rather, it removes fishy odors. Leaves resemble chives but are broader and whiter. It bears no fruit. There are red and white varieties; red ones heal sores and generate flesh, white ones provide cooling tonification. Both are planted around the Spring Equinox and wither in winter. When using scallion and wild leek, remove the green parts and keep the white parts, as white is cool-natured and green is hot-natured. It is non-toxic. Enters the Hand Yangming Large Intestine Meridian. Stops Huoluan dry heaving, chronic cold diarrhea, postpartum dysentery, infantile malnutrition dysentery, women's leukorrhea (red/white discharge), sudden chest/diaphragm pain, and lung asthma/wheezing. Crush and drink the juice for all these conditions, utilizing its slippery nature to drain stagnant Qi. It also eliminates water retention, warms the middle, disperses nodules, removes cold/heat, calms the soul, benefits Qi, facilitates Heart-Kidney interaction, strengthens tendons, and benefits patients. It is a medicinal fungus/herb commonly eaten by health cultivators. Suitable for boiling into soup, making pancakes, or stir-frying.
