The first stroke opens the Heavenly Gate. The second stroke closes the Earthly Door. The third stroke retains the Human Gate. The fourth stroke blocks the Ghost Path. The fifth stroke pierces the Ghost Heart. The sixth stroke breaks the Ghost Belly. I command in the name of Taishang Laojun (Supreme Venerable Lord), execute swiftly according to the law.
Hold the cup with the left hand, supporting it with fingers from the incense burner tripod gesture. Fill the cup with tea. Make a sword-finger gesture with the right hand, face East, and draw the first line while chanting "Open Heavenly Gate," the second line while chanting "Close Earthly Door," the third line while chanting "Retain Human Gate," the fourth line while chanting "Block Ghost Path," the fifth line while chanting "Pierce Ghost Heart," and the sixth line while chanting "Break Ghost Belly." Finally, chant: "I command in the name of Taishang Laojun, execute swiftly according to the law."
Those taking this prescription should smoke while taking the medicine. After eight to ten days, one can choose to smoke or not, more or less, on time or delayed. The wonder lies in not using coercive withdrawal agents (Jie Yao) nor tobacco ash; the addiction will dissolve naturally. There are many such verified cases, described below.
Opium smoke has spread its poison inland, causing much harm. Among the victims, some urgently wish to repent but cannot find a method. Medicines sold in markets often fail to clarify their own meanings, let alone achieve efficacy. Even if there are one or two that can stop smoking, they are mostly coercive agents (Jie Ji). These drugs attack the Spleen and damage the Stomach, causing various harms. It is like writing an essay without understanding the subject matter and expecting a masterpiece. Regarding terminology, what the world calls "addiction" refers to red spots under the skin, which is unrelated to this condition. What does the character "Yin" (guide/trigger) refer to? If the formula acts as a trigger, treating vaguely cannot yield results. One must understand that the so-called "Yin" here refers to drinking fluids, specifically the Phlegm-Fluid Syndrome (Tan Yin Zheng) discussed in medical texts. Turbid substances become Phlegm (Tan), clear substances become Fluids (Yin); this principle is easy to understand. Treating this condition primarily requires clearing fluids and resolving phlegm. Some ask: How does this condition arise? I say: Excessive smoking disturbs Dampness in the Spleen system; Dampness generates Phlegm. Since the Spleen is the source of Phlegm production and the Lung is the vessel for storing Phlegm, this condition always involves the Spleen and Lung meridians. Others ask: If excessive smoking generates fluids, why smoke? It is also called "excessive drinking." I say: Tobacco has a circulating and activating nature. Phlegm circulates throughout the body. Once obstructed by Earth (Spleen/Dampness), symptoms may include tearing, sweating, back distension, yawning, vomiting, or palpitations, all caused by Phlegm. Suddenly obtaining tobacco provides circulation and activation, instantly opening Phlegm and food stagnation, thereby calming all symptoms. This is called "excessive drinking." The guest agrees, feeling great joy. I say: Pitying those sunk in this addiction, I urgently sought to save them. After carefully studying works by famous masters and reflecting for several years, I finally grasped the secret. Thus, I specially created a formula. The herbs are mild and harmonious, purely following the King's Way (Wang Dao), allowing those quitting to self-regulate without any tobacco ash, naturally achieving efficacy. For over ten years, beneficiaries have been countless. Therefore, I published it for enthusiasts, hoping everyone crosses the boat of compassion together and turns back to the shore.
Guangju Hong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, stir-baked with Bai Fan/Alumen, 5 liang), Zhi Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum, 4.5 liang), Chuanjiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium, 7 qian), Zhi Fangcao (Glycyrrhizae Radicae et Rhizoma Praeparatum cum Melle, 3.5 liang), Tiannanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma, 1.5 liang), Hezi (Terminalia Chebulae Fructus, 1 liang), Baijiezi (Sinapis Semen, 8 qian), Kuai Yunling (Poria, 4 liang).
Grind all into fine powder. Form pills using Ginger Water (Jiang Shui), sized like paulownia seeds. Take 3 qian swallowed with plain boiling water, twice daily, one hour after meals. Efficacy will naturally appear after eight days, with extraordinary results.
Compiled in the mid-autumn month of Guihai year, 2nd year of Tongzhi reign, by Tu Xiechen of Huanggang, Hubei, who prepared the formula for printing.
This was extracted and circulated by Jiang Xiaofeng of Guilin from Tu Xiechen's (courtesy name Daohe) collected work "Six Medical Books: Puji Liangfang." It has been used successfully over time. Zhao Xianqing of Nanfeng had smoked for eighteen years, requiring six qian daily. In autumn of Wuyin year, he took this formula. Within ten days, phlegm decreased and smoking reduced. Occasionally smoking more led to drunken vomiting. Previously, he needed twenty puffs to feel satisfied ("guo yin"). After taking the medicine for twenty days, five puffs were sufficient. He then continued taking it to quit completely. His phlegm vanished, his face became plump, appetite doubled, and spirit was vigorous. This proves the formula is indeed beneficial. Therefore, he donated funds to print it to spread its transmission. May those who obtain it either firmly believe and take it themselves, or pass it on to help others. Do not doubt or neglect, for the merit will be immeasurable. Furthermore, when taking this formula, although one may smoke simultaneously, one must mentally strive to quit strictly. Do not rely on the medicine to smoke arbitrarily more, for only then is it beneficial.
