Mainly treats afternoon tidal fever in women, Yin deficiency with fire hyperactivity, dizziness and vertigo, consumptive disease. Dry and burn as smoke to ward off evil pathogens.
Qing Hao (Artemisia annua), flavor: bitter. Nature: cold. Enters the Spleen and Stomach meridians, removes damp-heat, treats palpitations due to phlegm-fire, resolves phlegm; ascends to clear head and eyes of dizziness and vertigo caused by phlegm-fire, promotes urination, cools blood, stops hematochezia due to wind-heat in the large intestine. Retreats five types of labor-fever, fever with aversion to cold. For youths with vigorous Qi, it promotes appetite and induces hunger easily. For those with abundant phlegm-Qi, it broadens the middle and directs Qi downward, treating food stagnation and mental restlessness; contraindicated for those with deficient constitution.
Formula: Qing Hao (1 qian, use root) + Digupi (1 qian) + Chaihu Gen (1 qian, stir-fried) + Biejia (1 qian, roasted) + Shihu (1 qian). Reference: Qingsheng Liu (1 qian). Simmer, take with child's urine.
Reason for ineffective treatment: The Classics state: "Yin deficiency leads to fever. Yang outside serves as the guard of Yin, Yin inside serves as the keeper of Yang." When spirit wanders outward and sexual desire is uncontrolled, Yin Qi dissipates, leaving Yang without attachment, thus floating and scattering between the muscle layers, causing aversion to heat. Treatment should employ nourishing Yin and descending fire. When Yin and Yang harmonize, Blood and Qi remain secure; when Water and Fire assist each other, bone-steaming fever naturally recedes.
Formula: Qing Hao (2 qian) + Qin Gui (2 qian) + Hang Shao (1 qian) + Shudi (2 qian) + Huai Shengdi (2 qian) + Digupi (2 qian) + Zhi Mu (2 qian) + Zhe Dong (2 qian) + Huai Shanyao (2 qian) + Bai Fuling (2 qian) + Hei Yuanshen (2 qian) + Yin Chaihu (2 qian) + Fen Danpi (2 qian). Reference: Lianzi (10 seeds, remove heart), simmer, take with child's urine.
